Yes This Made 0 Sense And I Couldnt Believe It - Tumblr Posts

Torturing his “friends” is pretty on brand for Xehanort.

I mean, do I believe that Xehanort would do something fucked up? Yes. He's the villain.

But none of this actually adds up.

I have no idea what his actual motive in this specific moment is, and my best guess doesn't make any sense.

I mean, here's my best guess.

Xehanort goes to meet Ven.

He senses this tremendous darkness in his heart.

And Xehanort can't take it.

This is not what he was promised. This is not what he spent eighty fucking years looking forward to.

Why is the friend of my dreams fucking soaking in darkness?

So he tries to "help" in his own twisted, selfish way by taking the darkness out, which is how we end up with Vanitas.

You know, it's this tragic, fucked-up, emotionally complicated thing.

But this only works if we ignore the fact that Xehanort was initially trying to use Ven as a vessel.

And how absolutely content he was to let Ven die in the BBS prologue.

And literally all of his stated motives and feelings, including the ones he only wrote in his own private reports.

You could also read into the vessel thing.

Maybe when he comes face to face with Ven, Xehanort has his own little "Last Unicorn" moment.

"How dare you come to me now, when I am this?"

Ashamed of the fact that he's so old and bitter and broken and tainted himself, he wans to take Ven's body as a way of forcibly capturing his youth and innocence.

Which, uh, absolutely contradicts everything I was just saying about being disgusted by his darkness, but it’s a viable alternative take.

But, again, this only works if you ignore most of what he says throughout most of his appearances.

Like... Dark Road is a game “about” Xehanort's psychology, but I don't know what his psychology actually was here.

The game doesn't go into it at all.

We basically just smash cut from "ooooh, my friend!!!!" to "anyway, I summoned some demons from Hell for you. Do what I say or fucking die, maybe."
