Zoro's Sense Of Direction - Tumblr Posts

I'm pretty certain that someone has already pointed this out.. My sister is watching One Piece for the first time at my insistence. So I rewatched the first few episodes with her. Never noticed this before but in the second episode, right after Luffy decides to get Zoro's swords, Zoro says "hey genius! The marine base is the other way." AND HE WAS RIGHT!! WTF? Did I perhaps miss something where someone admitted that Zoro's legendary sense of direction was an afterthought?
