misadventures of a queer disabled DID system

No, there are not 69 of us but we are hiding in a trenchcoat.. medically recognised adult DID system studying to become a clinical psych. We are aware we make mistakes, we know we make mistakes, we're open to kind discussion!!!! šŸ‡³šŸ‡æšŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆšŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø Please remember, there is a person behind almost every post on the internet, including syscourse. Be kind.

Me: "I need to sleep"

Me: *goes to find a nice YouTube video to listen to*

YouTube: "the total horror of lobotomy" "I survived the Holocaust" "I escaped Jonestown" "how to eat a human being""the worst abuse case in history" "a deep dive into passive suicidal ideation"

Me: okay bet *adds them all to queue*

...anyway it's been an hours and I can't sleep šŸ˜†

Start saying disabled when you mean disabled.

Disability isn't, nor will it ever be, a dirty word. The only reason you think it's dirty is because you walked on it with muddy shoes.

me trying kissing: uh..... Yeah this applies to everything

ok I just wanna say if you see a kink on tumblr or wherever that really turns u on and then you try it irl and it doesnā€™t make u feel the way you hoped it would THATS OK!! You can let that kink live in fantasy!! There are a lot of things that turn my brain on that I donā€™t enjoy during actual sex!! Isnā€™t human sexuality interesting!!

My dear lgbt+ kids.Ā

Is it really your ā€œguilty pleasureā€ or is it just something traditionally seen as feminine (and you internalized that acting feminine is something to feel guilty about)?Ā

Now this will obviously not ring true for everything (ā€œguilty pleasureā€ is a phrase people use for a very broad range of things after all) but itā€™s still a good self-reflection exercise - even, and maybe *especially*, if you donā€™t think it applies to you.Ā

We are often (indirectly) taught that things traditionally seen as masculine are worth more than things traditionally seen as feminine - just think about someone who knows a lot about World War Two and then think about someone who knows a lot about pop music. Both have in-depth knowledge about a specific subjectā€¦ but we would often instinctively assume the first one is a highly educated man and the second is a girl who has a silly little hobby. These beliefs are not something weā€™d sign off on consciously, theyā€™re more ā€œautomaticā€ thoughts we learned to have.Ā

The good thing about that is that you can also unlearn these thoughts! The trick is to pull them out of that ā€œautomatic reactionā€ zone and consciously question them.Ā

So, the next time you call something a guilty pleasure - no matter if itā€™s pop music, romantic comedies, an interest in beauty and fashion, keeping up with celebrity news, baking, crafts etc. - ask yourself: is it really something to feel guilty about, or is it just something traditionally seen as feminine?Ā

With all my love,Ā
