based on a little conversation i had with my starliner friends @aguynamedtrillo and @a-cryptid-called-magetha

it was hilarious and i couldn't not write it out but i didn't feel like writing enough for a full-blown update lmao so y'all get this for now

To be fair, Meta Knight hadn’t had any sleep for more than twenty-four hours. However, that didn’t explain why he couldn’t get through the main door to the Halberd.

His crew were all staring at him with confused looks, though Axe and Mace seemed more on the verge of breaking into spontaneous laughter than anything. The knight tried over and over to enter the battleship (his battleship, damn it, why can’t he get inside, it’s his) but to no avail, and that same something was still resisting his every attempt to get in. 

“Uh, sir, do you need some help?” Trident asked, gazing at him worriedly.

“No, I’ll be fine,” Meta Knight said, voice slurred. “I know something’s wrong. Just… give me a while to figure it out. A little while. I can do this.” His crew continued to stare at him as the knight glanced from one side of the door to the other, trying to figure out what was stopping him from getting inside. 

Sailor Dee stepped forward, eyes twinkling with some emotion that the knight couldn’t name in his sleep-deprived state. “Sir, are you really sure you don’t need help-”

“Yes. I’ve almost got it… I think.” Meta Knight tried to get into the Halberd again, and there was still that same force pushing against him from before. His eyes narrowed, and the knight took his mask off to look more closely at the door. The warrior barely registered Axe and Mace’s laughter as he squinted at the edges of the door.

“S-Sir,” Mace wheezed out in between laughs, “your wings. You haven’t tucked your wings away yet.”

The warrior looked back towards his wings, realization slowly dawning on him. “Oh. That’s why.”
