Chapter 2 - A surreal Encounter…
After taking a warm bath, Oshi started the same ritual she did for the past year whenever she remembered her drunk mistakes. Rolling in the blanket like a caterpillar, she cursed herself for drinking. Jessy handed her a cup of hot chocolate while laughing hard.
“It’s okay. It’s not like it was the first time you got drunk in Duskwood, Oshi. Ha ha.”
Oshi looked up, pouting, “You don’t sound convincing.” To her remark, Jessy laughed even harder. Then, she hid inside the blanket again, leaving Jessy to laugh alone.
“Ha. Ha- Alright. Alright. I’ll stop laughing. Oshi, drink this while it’s still hot.” Before closing the door, she turned towards the blanket caterpillar, “Goodnight, Oshi!”
“Goodnight, Jessy!” Oshi mumbled, still hiding in the blanket.
Oshi crawled out of the blanket, sitting on the bed after Jessy left. While she was sipping the hot chocolate, a message arrived. There was a time when Oshi madly ran for the phone whenever a notification came. After so many disappointments, she was not even excited at all. As she continued drinking the hot chocolate peacefully, another message arrived. Oshi lazily checked the phone.
An unknown number has sent two messages…
_Hello Oshi.
_ :)
Her eyes could not believe it.
After rubbing her eyes till it stung, pinching her arms till it left red bumps, the text was still there. Oshi picked up the phone with shaking hands.
- Jake.
_Yes, Oshi.
She could no longer hold her tears. Her tears drenched the warm cheeks, the eyes burning. Her heart pounded so hard that she would not be surprised even if it exploded. Her hands weakened, letting the phone slide and fall on the mattress. Another text…
_I have come to see you.
She gasped, then took the phone back into her hands, among the falling tears. With trembling fingers, she typed.
-Where are you?
_In front of Jessica’s home.
She couldn’t afford the thought of him being someone else, maybe even his pursuers. But, no. That didn’t matter at all. If she could talk to him again, see him, touch him.
Nothing else would matter.
As long as they were together, they were there for each other…
***
She ran outside at once. The door lock seemed to take forever to open. Finally opening the door, the only hindrance between them, she ran towards the road.
There he stood.
The same man who locked eyes with her at the firework festival.
The same blue eyes, ebony hair, and a black coat over a black hoodie.
More than anything…
The same gaze.
Yet again, all she could do was stare at him. Her head went blank, her body numbed. What was she supposed to do? She could not know. She knew she had to call out for him. If not, he might disappear again.
It still haunted her mind. That day, she still regretted saying those words…
[-Will you stay in Duskwood?]
[-Or will you disappear?]
[_Do you want me to stay?]
[-Is it dangerous for you?]
[_It always will be.]
[_But if you want to meet me.]
[_Then I will be there.]
[-No, I don’t want that]
[_I see.]
That was not what she meant. All she wanted was for him to be safe and happy. His life so far had been too lonely and sad. She wanted to embrace him in warmth and make him the happiest person in the world.
But if simply coming to see her would put him in danger…
…She did not want that.
Oshi wanted to say his name out loud. Run into his arms, hugging him as tightly as she could. To tell him not to leave her again. To beg him to stay by her side…
But she couldn’t.
None of the words she wanted to say came out of her frozen lips.
Another warm tear fell, cracking the thin ice on her cheeks. Her lips moved slightly…
A faint voice escaped her mouth…
“...Welcome back.”
Silence fell yet again. Even the owls seemed to have stopped their occasional hooting. The dark blue eyes looked surprised.
After who knows how long it’s been, he finally stepped towards her. As he slowly reached her, she insistingly kept staring into his eyes. Jake took off the black coat and draped her shoulders with it as he reached her. The coat still held onto his body warmth, taking her out of her trance.
Soon, a deep yet pleasant voice entered her ears.
“...Oshi.”
Her vision blurred, eyes stung. After fighting with the lump of lead disrupting her voice, all she could mutter was his name.
“...Jake.”
He took one step closer. She looked right into his eyes. Cautiously holding her in his warmth, he kissed her forehead. The tears only add up. Her bitten lips tasted blood.
Jake slowly raised her chin, bending himself to her height, causing her to close her fluttering eyelids. Soon, his lips touched hers. They were anything but soft. Evident in the time he spent out in the cold, unable to call her yet impossible to let go of her.
Lightly hugging her shoulders, he smiled. “It’s cold here. Shall we go somewhere and talk?”
She smiled in tears, nodding akin to a child. “Yes. We have a lot to catch on to.”
***
After putting on a dark blue dress and finally persuading Jessy that she had to go out urgently and would explain everything once she’d come back, Oshi left with Jake. Shortly they were sitting down in the Rainbow Cafe, Oshi sipping down a hot americano and Jake staring at her without even wasting time blinking. The Rainbow Cafe was still crowded because of the Pine Glade festival. So were the other restaurants and, obviously, Aurora.
Heat rose to her cheeks gradually as he kept his piercing gaze on her. Oshi put the cup on the table before looking at the deep blue eyes. A faint smile drew on her face as she watched the man she always yearned for yet couldn’t get a glimpse of at the very least. Finally, finally, this man was standing in front of her…
She still wondered if it was a dream or not. She had dreamed of this moment far too many times.
Among all the wandering thoughts, a worry hit her hard suddenly. She quickly leaned closer and whispered so no one would hear them. “Is it okay for you to be here? What if your pursuers find out?”

Chapter 7 - I will not leave you again…
The instant she was about to run out, Jake stepped in and was surprised to see her in a teary mess. The moment she spotted him, Oshi ran to his arms as fast as she could. Jake was shocked to find her like this so early in the morning. He could only guess that she may have had a nightmare. “Oshi, What’s wrong?”
Unable to hear him, she kept crying her heart out as the confused man gently patted her head. Finally, after a long time, she rumbled through sobs. “I thought- hic - you left.”
…
Seeing her this way, his self-hatred surged up. Oshi was in this state because of him. Everything was his fault. She deserved none of that suffering... For one reason alone; she fell in love with someone like him... She was in so much pain.
Frankly, he did not deserve her.
The front of his jacket was soaked with her tears as she eventually ceased to sob.
Her swollen eyes were dyed red, and her cheeks burned; she seemed to have a slight fever. Jake laid a wet towel on her forehead after laying her down.
“I’m sorry, Oshi. I left to buy you some clothes. I should have informed you beforehand.” Then, as she stared at his figure persistently with hazy eyes, Jake brought the porridge he ordered earlier. “You were sound asleep, so I didn’t expect you to wake up before I came back.”
She mumbled, almost inaudible, “I was alone, the bed was cold…I thought-” He lifted her upper body to rest on the pillows while she mumbled. “I thought last night was your apology.” Then grabbed his free hand with trembling hands.
“...Oshi. I promise you. I would never disappear like that again.” She slightly opened her lips as he held the spoon before wiping her mouth with a tissue,“Do you trust me?”
She weakly nodded before letting out a faint voice, “Yes.”
“Thank you. Really, thank you, Oshi….” Jake muttered over and over again as he kissed her temple.

Jessy ran out of patience while waiting to hear from her friend who suddenly left with the man who "claimed" to be her lover. No matter how rational and open-minded Oshi was, she was nothing of that sort regarding Jake. Jessy recalled Hannah describes Jake from their video call. Although as expected, his image was altered, leaving no trace of his appearance. Jessy remembered Oshi drunk talking that Jake’s hair was black. But there could be thousands of black-haired men everywhere you go.
She had been calling Oshi for hours, yet nobody picked up. Neither of her texts made it. She felt stupid about not getting the address of where Oshi went last night. Eventually determined to inform the others of the group, Jessy called Oshi one last time.
This time the call was answered, “Oshi! Do you know how worried I was?! Where are you? At least tell me where! Although the phone was answered, there was no response from the other side, which left her more distraught.
“Oshi? Why aren’t you talking?! is everything okay? Oshi, please! Say something!”
[...Jessica.]
A deep voice rang through the line instead of her friend’s. Oshi had saved her number as Jessy. And she could only think of one person who would persistently call her ‘Jessica'.
“Jake?”
[Yes. I apologize for not answering soon. Oshi was asleep; thus, it felt wrong to answer her calls.]
Was he being serious? The guy who hacked their phones several times without permission, now said it was rude to answer his sleeping girlfriend's phone. It was laughable.
“She was asleep all the time? She didn’t answer me at all, be honest. Are you truly Jake? Give me your address, or I’m calling the police!”
[Her phone was on silent mode, and we are staying at - mm…Jake?]
The sleepy voice of a young woman cut him off from the other side. Jessy sighed in relief. Both their voices were heard through the line.
[Oshi.]
[Mm. Is that my phone?]
[Yes. Jessica kept calling, so I answered, assuming she would be worried.]
[Jessy? Is she still on?]
[Yes.]
Soon Oshi voiced, [Jessy!]. Her voice sounding tired yet joyous.
“Oshi! I was worried.”
[I’m so sorry, Jessy…My phone was on silent mode.]
“It’s okay. As long as you’re fine…I was about to call the police but tried one last time, you know?”
[Oh my! I nearly turned Jake into a kidnapper. Haha!]
“Haha. Yeah. You almost did.”
[Are you home?]
“Yes. I was cleaning.”
[Sorry. I was gonna help you.]
“It’s okay, Oshi. Today is a happy day for you.”
[Hehe! Of course. I’ll come back afternoon.]
“Alright. Goodbye, Oshi!”
[Hm. Goodbye, Jessy!]
Jessy was genuinely happy for her friend, who finally met the person she yearned for all along. She wanted to surprise the group by breaking the news, but let Oshi do it herself in the end.
***
“Are you alright now?”
Jake watched as she came back from the shower, his face full of worries. She smiled as she stretched her hands to be hugged. He obliged her by embracing her and then kissing her forehead.
“My head hurts a bit, but that’s okay.”
“I shouldn’t have gone without telling you. I’m so-” Oshi cut him off with her index finger and then shook her head.
“That’s only because I panicked unnecessarily. Not your fault.” The young woman took his hand, guiding him to sit on the bed before placing both her hands on his broad shoulders. “You know Jake. I want you to stop apologizing.” Sitting on his lap, the woman continued as she stroked his short jet-black hair. “Do you know that from the moment we met, almost every time you talked, it was an apology? Most of the time, you looked at me with apologetic eyes?”
He was honestly a bit surprised. Jake didn’t want her to notice, he thought he hid it well. It turned out that he really couldn’t hide anything from this woman. Thus, he decided to be honest from the start.
“Then what am I supposed to say? Oshi, how am I supposed to look at you?”
