As he flew inward, Jasper considered his next move. Was he to look for the badgers sentimental poison vial or try to stop the jilted lover from completing his dire mission? He was lost in thought when a fierce wind nearly knocked him out of the sky. Lucky as he was to remain in flight, he lost Frederick's gift and the fancy quill went tumbling into the dark, cold waters of the lake. Jasper was struck with regret as the gift from his new friend was lost.
Soon, he encountered a magpie that wanted to help. The bird told him where to find a petrified moth. It was not far. In fact, it was directly in Jasper' path. He landed quickly and found the strange little item.
