So last year the fabulous album Escapades by Gaspard Auge was released, and I was inspired by the track Pentacle to create this little sequence! I had never animated a portal before and I wanted to see how it could be formed in a fun way 🔥🌈⚡️ Originally I wanted to animate more but it would’ve taken too long, so I repeated the sequence with some iMovie filter on top lol 🙃 no shame! Also I do know that pentacles are different from what Baphomet tends to be associated with, pentaGRAMS, buuuuuuuuuuut I don’t care 🤠💅 i simply must follow my dumb heart My apologies for not posting much this year so far, I do want to make more stuff 🙏

Anime Layout Practice. I have been watching Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains lately and I’m really enjoying it, and as you all know Ghost Game is one of the highlights of my career, so here’s fanart of both!

Some cool stuff hopefully coming on the future, so I’m keeping spirits high lately.

As usual I’m gonna have some longer thoughts beyond the break but honestly this time around this was just a swift and fun workload. One thing I didn’t know while working on it was that this was Ex Tyranomon’s debut in a digimon anime!

Episode 30 was always going to have a hard time following up Tethismon’s debut last week. Ep29 was honestly one of my top 5, maybe even top 3 it was so good. I feel like at this point there’s a lot of people that stick to watching because they want to see the conclusion of the GulusGammamon plotline and other mysteries, but aren’t particularly enthused about the week to week episodic nature. I just hope that there are fans out there that are legitimately happy with the show, because I sure am. 

In fact I am so happy that for the foreseeable future, GG is the only thing I’m gonna be working on (professionally). I had a couple of options going forward but I preferred the idea of just focusing on this one project, being able to grow alongside it and get better opportunities as I slowly earn them. Most other offers I gotten for anime work were more desperate pleas for help as tight deadlines loomed over productions. So for now I’m happy. I know all my other blog posts about Digimon were very gloomy, they usually reflected a lot of insecurities and uncertainties that I was being forced to deal with, but they are mostly faded away. I know I have a lot of room to grow as an artist, and I also know that this is a fickle industry, but I no longer feel the need to focus on the worst case scenario. Right now I can celebrate all the small victories that are in front of me and keep going forward.

I’ve been trying to visualise this idea I’ve had in my head these past few days. Basically, whenever I’m overwhelmed by all the things that can be done by other artists, I need to remind myself that there’s still an infinity of cool things that I can do within my skillset, interests and just general inclinations. It may seem like a tiny spec when looked at straight ahead, but it extends far beyond even my own comprehension as I take a step sideways and look at it from a truly 3D view, if that makes sense. There’s usually this complicated balance of accepting you and your work for what they are, and not trying to fall and get stuck in a self serving bubble of mediocrity, and the answers for that balance vary from person to person, and even within any one given person at different points in their lives, as hobbyists, as professionals, as students and as instructors; but whatever that answer is, you still have a lot of great stuff to share with the world so there will always be a good reason to keep going. Hope this lil ramble made sense. Maybe it can help someone, but it was mostly for myself, trying to externalise messy thoughts into a coherent text helps me figure them out more clearly.

Thank you for watching Digimon Ghost Game Ep22! It's been so looooong~ I had the opportunity to draw the layout and Nigen for the scene where Bakumon shows up from Hiro’s phone. As last time, some longer thoughts after the cut, but before that I just really want to emphasise how happy I am that this finally released. It’s been like 6 weeks without a Digimon episode.

So first things first, this episode was a real landmark moment for myself. I’ve worked on 4 Ghost Game eps before this one, but they have all been through Studio Yotta, but this time around I worked more directly with Toei. You can see in the credits my name is put in the general Genga slot, instead of under a freelancing studio. In general that doesn’t change much of how the work was done, but it’s still a nice feeling of being contacted to work more on Digimon, I absolutely adore this show in all senses. And now to the scheduled bad thoughts spiral. Firstable, in case you didn’t know Toei was hacked about a week before this episode was supposed to air, and that’s the reason Digimon and many (all?) of Toei shows had to go on hiatus for the past month. Now that’s bad enough on itself, but by virtue of being a freelancer I was in the dark about the whole situation, so now I was a fan with a show on hiatus, and an animator with my work in hiatus, and with 0 information on the matter. It was annoying and depressing honestly.

When the episode release was finally announced I was ecstatic, but now that it’s out, I’m somewhat back to where I was work wise earlier in the year. 

I have no idea what’s ahead in the future for me right now. I’ve been really low energy, and I have this very annoying lock of wanting to work on nothing but Digimon, cus there’s this feeling of “this is your dream job, why would you settle for anything less?”. The excitement I get when a new episode I worked on releases is absolutely unparalleled, and I’ve done some loose jobs here and there, commissions and all that and it’s like... so much worse. It’s so unfun and unrewarding. It doesn’t feed my soul in any way, and I’m starving.  I dunno what I’ll do, I dunno if there’s a way for me to have more control over working with Toei since I’ve never had a direct line of contact with them, and the dark clouds are inundating my brain. Maybe they havent liked my last batch of work and are not interested in working with me anymore. Who knows. Until next time, I guess.
