Overwatch Devs Have Some Of The Dumbest Excuses.
overwatch devs have some of the dumbest excuses.
“oh with only 10 players in a game, it will make it easier for the casual player to know what’s going on!!! tank abilities are just too distracting!!!!!!”
yeah as if dps and support don’t have obnoxious eye sore abilities/ults. put a casual player into the middle of a team fight with coalescence, dragon strike, immortality field, half their team purple from nade, the other half getting cooked with dynamite, all while echo shoots bombs in their face and tell me they know exactly what’s going on.
“overwatch being easy to pick up” ship sailed away a long time ago.

My Thoughts on 5v5 in Overwatch 2
Alright, so I need to rant a little. I am going to be talking about my opinions on 5v5. But before I get into that, if you want to see a short, but good analysis of the Game Developer update, I would watch this video on it. I really liked it.
Ok! I think that 5v5 is a terrible idea, especially for Offtanks. These are some of the general problems with having only 1 tank including:
You won't truly be able to play certain comps. Rush(Rein/Zarya, Rein/D.Va), Dive(D.Va/Winston, sometime D.Va/Wrecking Ball), or Double shield(Orisa/Sigma, Orisa/Rein).
Offtank playtime will go down because it is much harder for them to play without another tank.
Streamers that Duo on tank won't be able to stream together on tank(Emongg and Flats).
Overwatch League teams will probably drop some of their tanks since they won't need two for every match meaning PEOPLE WILL LITERALLY BE LOSING THEIR JOBS!
Tanks will probably need to play more defensive to make sure they can peel for their supports.
I've seen people saying that this is going to help DPS queue times, but it's only going to make them longer since fewer people will want to play tank by themselves.
Tank players are going to need to learn all of the tanks to some extent so they can play different comps which will be annoying if you already know how to play certain Main Tanks or Offtanks.
So, I was really excited to see this update! I'm not surprised we only got to see one new look, I have a feeling they will slowly reveal the new looks which is fine by me, but 5v5 feels like a slap to the face. I have only played Overwatch for about a year and a half, but over that time I have worked hard to get better at playing tank when it comes to knowing the different comps, how to play those comps, where to play those comps, and how to work with my other tank player without ever really communicating with them(I play on the Switch, nobody uses mics ever). I'm still excited about the PvE aspect of Overwatch 2, but that is really all I am excited about.
Anyways, what are your opinions on 5v5? I'm mainly an Offtank player so I know that I'm really biased. Also, what are your opinions on the new Anniversary skin? I posted my skin rankings the other day and I want to know what you agree or disagree with. Sorry that this is really different from the usual format, I just needed to get it off my chest. I hope you all are doing good and have a great day! ~Nova
Overwatch 2 Maps: The Amazon Rainforest
Alright! Welcome to: "Another cut-map that I wish was added to the game because we might have seen animated animals!" (Check out my posts on the Bayou and Galapagos in OW2. I talked about the environments and animated animals we might have seen with some other stuff). On the Overwatch Wiki, the Amazon Rainforest was a cut-map and I'm gonna talk about what it's like in real life and what it might be like in Overwatch 2. But first, the TLDR if you don't want to read under the cut...
TLDR: IRL the Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world. It is found in northwestern Brazil; it is a relatively flat area with a lot of streams/rivers with thousands of animals living in it. In OW, it will probably be Control, but I hope it will be a hybrid or a push map. If it is either of those map types, the paths would be around and into an Aztec-like style temple.
Real World Amazon Rainforest: The Amazon Rainforest, like it says in the name, is a rainforest. It is in northwestern Brazil and extends into Columbia, Peru, and other South American countries. It is the largest tropical rainforest in the world that is home to a lot of different species of insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. Some of my favorite animals from the Amazon Rainforest are jaguars, Amazon river dolphins, giant otters, ocelots, and hummingbirds. The terrain is quite flat, being a rainforest and all, has a lot of trees, frequent oxbows, and thousands of streams. Now, to Overwatch!

The Amazon Rainforest in Overwatch 2: The concept art shows that the main color scheme for the Amazon would be a lot of green and brown shades with some oranges and white. It is listed as Attack/Defend which I think means Assault/2CP. The art also shows that the attack/defend point would be an Aztec-like temple(It reminds me of the jungle temples in Minecraft), but since 2CP might not exist in OW2 I am going to talk about what map type it could be.
It would probably be Control, but I don't like Control that much, other than Lijang Tower, so I want it to be hybrid or push. If it is hybrid, the payload itself would be a truck/jeep. The payload route would start at a campsite, go down a path, parallel to the Amazon river, then go around the temple, and end up inside it. If it was a push map, then the robots would probably walk around the temple, with two roads on parallel sides of the temple being where they leave the area. I think that on a different map, the robots should look different. In city areas, like Toronto, they look clean while in a place like this they might look overgrown to match the map's vibe.

Anyways, I will be posting about some possible new character soon, but I'm not sure when. I hope you all are excited for the May Melee, I really hope Florida Mayhem win!
Overwatch Events: 2021 Anniversary
Happy 5th Year of Overwatch!!! I have to admit, I think I love all of these skins!!! Like they didn't miss this time and the background music hits hard! I mean, they made Wrecking Ball into an 8-Ball and gave him a little tux!!!!! Also, watch out for my 2021 Anniversary Events skin rankings coming as soon as I can get it out!

I’m cleaning this up from a discord message, cause I feel like I have To Work Through Some Thoughts, please exuse if it’s disjointed or in a different tone to what I usually post, but;
I find that I have weirdly mixed feelings about the reveal that McCree is canonically a white man???
I should probably preface this by saying that I am quite literally a light skinned mixed person - actually just around McCree’s darkest earliest complexion - who firmly HC him to be a man of color in one form or another. A ‘canonically mixed, “ambiguously brown” McCree who often has his racial identity denied’ would very much be representation of people like me. I’m not trying to pull the minority card too hard here, but I want to make it very clear that I have a lot to win/loose in seeing McCree potentially be realized as a character of color and I have been ready to go to bat for reading McCree as a brown character and I will continue to hold that headcanon very dear to my heart, and yet there’s a part of me I didn’t realize was there, that’s weirdly … relieved? by this reveal??
Someone pointed out - I think it was on twitter, how the canonicalization of McCree’s race as white might force some people in the fandom to face the racism and colorism taking place in the Overwatch fandom
I’m not entirely sure I agree completely, but one thing I am sure of is that I have seen a lot of creators - especially creators who mainly or exclusively make McHanzo content - hide from valid criticism of sidelining darkskinned characters by bringing up that they portray/HC McCree as mixed/latino and quietly sidestepping the main point that the main focus of this fandom are still the two most beige dudes shipped together (and this is not to invalidate that Hanzo is undeniably and canonically a man of color or to say anything bad about the ship. I think this is a nuanced convo that can and should coexist with enjoying these characters/ships on a fandom level). This has for a long time just been an uncomfortable fact of the fandom that we all should talk about
And it sucks. Point blank. It sucks to see character’s who look like me be used to justify the sidelining and underrepresenting of wonderful dark skinned characters in the OW cast, very often by white people. Even if McCree had been confirmed to be a man of color, it still would not justify the immense amount of space this light character takes up in fandom space; that still needs to be openly addressed and talked about, even if they did give some ‘yeah he’s mixed latino and white!’ answer. McCree’s (potential) non-white etnichity does not absolve people from having to examine why they latch the hardest onto characters with lighter completions and I can only hope and pray this leads to some sort of discussion of this in the fandom
I guess I’m just trying to say that while I, personally, will always hold mixed, brown McCree close to my heart and project a lot of my own relationship to race and otherness onto him, there is a teeny bit of satisfaction in not seeing yet another ambiguously brown character be weaponized by white creators to excuse potentially insensitive behaviour and I hope this will cause some people to do some introspection about why this particular character became so popular
And also so we’re very clear; I am myself guilty of being (perhaps overly) fond of the white characters, specifically McCree and Soldier and having them (over) represented in my body of work for this fandom and it is something I try to examine and work actively against
I’m not trying to say it’s inherently bad to have an affinity for a character. I’m not saying HC’ing McCree as non-white is some ~sinister coverup for how racist you are~ not at all. I do, however, resolutely believe that there’s a culture of racial bias in both the source material and especially the fandom as a whole that shapes how all of us interact with (the) overwatch (fandom) - even if you were interested in other characters, producing content for popular characters/ships will always net more interactions. This is a circle and a problem of community, not individuals!
So my tiny little hope, is that this reveal might rekindle the discussion on how to deal with that - and for once the talking point of ’but I can’t be racist! I often draw this very light skinned, possibly (?) brown man with his tits out!’ isn’t a shield against all criticism
