People pointing to Lost Harp to say that Beakley is not Webby’s grandma will often overlook this scene that happened like ten minutes before and I’m just??? It’s an important moment to understand who she is and her relationship with her kid???

Beakley doesnt want to lie to her granddaughter. But have you seen her look at Webby whenever she smiles? she would do literally anything to keep Webby happy. Including, y’know, not destroying her faith in the world around her. The tiniest bit sent Webby downhill. The truth hurts, Agent 22 probably knows that better than most, and she would never hurt Webby willingly if she can avoid it.

And about her keeping secrets. Of course she does?? She’s a spy??? And a hella good one at that since she ended up becoming the director. Keeping secrets and not trusting everyone is how she stayed alive this long. If Beakley saw the good in everyone she would have been a goner long ago, but Webby is a kid and has been raised safe and loved, she does not need to know that.

I said once that I think Beakley may become a traitor but honestly mainly because she would stop at nothing to keep Webby safe. Confidential caseflies proved that, decades of keeping the formula secret thrown out of the window without a second thought the moment Webby was in harm’s way. No matter what, Webby’s life is the only thing she won’t risk. If FOWL got her Beakley would probably do literally anything they said. She’s her number 1 priority at any time.

We don’t know exactly how much she lost to FOWL. But she went from leading SHUSH and protecting the world to hiding as a housekeeper, taking care of her granddaughter and looking after a shadow of what used to be the most trusted ally and friend she ever had, alone for around a decade, so I’d say it’s safe to assume it’s incredibly possible that Webby is everything she has left. Is the way she reacted in Impossibin really that surprising?

Now add the thought that not trusting is her number 1 rule but she trusted anyways and because of that, because of her, the person she loves the most is in danger. And that everything she went through, everything she ever did or lost in her life is useless because of that one mistake.
