“Well thanks again Aiden, I’m Nora.” She held out her hand to give a firm handshake, nodding her head in a grateful way. “Yes I’m fine, perhaps if you hadn’t interfered sooner who knows.” She trailed off in thought, a shiver running down her spine at how much worse it could’ve been. “Guess Wilmington isn’t safe as I assumed it would be.”

“Oh, what a pretty name. That’s the name of this character on this show I really love.” He stuck his hand back out and gave her a reciprocated firm handshake. “Well maybe I’m your guardian angel sent from above,” he joked, trying to make light of the situation. He didn’t want her to feel as though the situation wasn’t important, but he didn’t want to dwell on it either. “Yeah, I don’t think anywhere is safe, if I’m being honest. I think there’s definitely cities with a lower crime rate, but you definitely should be careful. Get some pepper spray or something,” he suggested.

A small but sweet laugh followed his words, and Shay nodded at the good point he made. “That would be smart, however, the objective is to draw attention.” Her ex needed to notice that she had someone on her arm, that he wasn’t the only one with a supposed upgrade. Which, out of all he said and implied, that was what had gotten under her skin and attacked her pride. Shay wasn’t vain or a narcissist, yet all the upgrade comments had gotten to her, as though she was being whittled down to nothing. “I am,” came her proud return. His words painted a smile on her lips, it was what she loved hearing most, people loving and enjoying Stella’s. The caffe was where she had directed so much passion and love, not to mention countless hours of hard work to get it open and running as she had dreamed. A few years of success under her belt now felt like the greatest accomplishment. “That means the world to me.” Shay’s hand draped over her heart and her smile only grew. “Well, where do you work now? You could always quit your job and come work for me.” She sent him a wink. “I can teach you coffee the Stella way.” Her earthy hues turned off of his visage for a moment, simpered lips and a nodding head as he fumbled through his words. There was a feeling people didn’t tell him that too often, and Shay thought it to be quite a shame. “Thank you, and I understand. I realize it sounded somewhat like a proposition, and the reality is that I’m just asking for help.” Her pride needed it. “It’s a pleasure,” she extended her hand, “I’m Shay.”

Aiden was taken aback that she would request that he come be her date to draw attention. If anything, Aiden hated attention, which was ironic considering he taught students. But it was different. It was a different dynamic. He didn’t want to be the person that everyone was looking at. What if they judged his hair? His eyes? His bone structure? He didn’t know these people, but yet he wanted to be there for this girl he had just met. It was confusing for Aiden. “Um, should I wear the glasses or lose the glasses then? Would glasses draw more attention to my piercing eyes?” he joked, trying to make the situation a little less weird. “Honestly, I might as well give you my whole bank account considering how often I come there,” he joked. He wasn’t even trying to be nice or anything. He loved local businesses. The quality of the coffee was far superior in comparison to Starbucks. Plus, he enjoyed trying the different coffee beans. Who would have thought that Aiden would become some coffee connoisseur? “I actually work as a teacher. Trust me, I want to quit my job, but I definitely could not support myself on a minimum wage salary, but I’d definitely love to learn how to make coffee. We can make a little trade off then, how about you allow me to come learn how to make coffee and I’ll hold your purse at the event,” he offered. It seemed like a good deal. Aiden wasn’t sure if he needed some food handler certificate or something. Maybe he could watch. Aiden wanted to be more well rounded. All people knew him as was the nerdy teacher. “Well, sorry I was giving you a hard time. We will make your ex realize what he’s missing. We’ll dance the night away too. We can even choreograph a dance. Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself,” he chuckled. He shook her hand back, ”Pleasure is all mine, Shay.”

Someone sitting down at her table stirred her thoughts, blue-green hues finding the familiar face that presented itself before her. Though, her eyes shifted to the book sat next to her, one hand moving to cover the title as she shrugged. “Oh you know, just boring things,” she sent a small smile his way before continuing to speak. “Aiden, right? What brings you over to my table on this lovely afternoon?” She had only seen him around a couple of times, though he was someone to easily remember.

“Are you reading the newspaper or something? Because that is pretty boring,” he chuckled, trying to make the girl smile a little. “Yes, that’s me. And you’re Delilah,” he started singing Hey There Delilah in his head. “Well you seemed like a familiar face and plus I hate sitting alone so I figured I’d get to know you more and also not have to look like a loner. What about you? What are you doing here? Just reading?”

‘I can’t read this anymore,’ she thought to herself, head shaking slightly as she closed the book she had in front of her and slid it to the side. One hand raising to run against her forehead and swoop a piece of hair away as the others’ fingernails tapped against the table. She had been trying to find something in the book of relevance for about two hours and had gotten nowhere. This obsession she had was really getting to her. Blue-green orbs looked a little further in front of her to find the coffee she had been slowly sipping on before her hands moved to cup it at both sides and drag it back to her. “Delilah, just chill out,” she muttered before taking a long sip of her coffee, hoping for a distraction.

Aiden couldn’t help but notice someone reading a book, an actual, physical book. Although he had seen Delilah around town a couple times, he didn’t really know much about her. He decided to join her at the table, without asking her. That was quite bold of him. Usually Aiden was polite, but he figured they were friendly enough that it wouldn’t be creepy if he sat with her. “What ya reading there?” he asked. He had just gotten to his favorite coffee shop and was about to crack open his book.

Mala was trying her best to be social, she had a terrible habit of spending her nights in with a glass of wine and an incredibly comfortable pair of pyjamas. Somehow, her friend had used that against her in order to persuade her to come out for dinner at Beckoned Bar & Grill, but what she hadn’t anticipated was being left alone to entertain herself because her friend had run into some old college acquaintances. Apparently, she’d been forgotten. She was leaning against the bar, enjoying the last of her drink when she noticed someone step up beside her. “How do you feel about a free drink?” She questioned, turning her body slightly to focus on the other person. “My only condition is that you let me steal you for the duration of that drink, my friend has abandoned me and I want to at least have had a conversation with someone this evening to make this night worthwhile.”

Drmalaleeds:

Aiden decided that he’d finally slip out of his Forensic Files binge and actually go outside and socialize. He knew that Beckoned Bar & Grill was popping and it would be nice to see some familiar faces and maybe meet some new ones. “Well, how can a guy like me say no to a free drink?” he chuckled. “Are you essentially paying for my company? Does this make me a prostitute or something?” he joked. It felt weird that a woman offered Aiden a free drink. Considering she just needed his company, he was willing to take it, but he hoped that he wasn’t giving off some one night stand impressions. “Well, I think my conversation would be graded as a C+ but I think I can definitely improve over the course of our conversation.”
