It really never passed the sniff test for me because it's literally one letter off from "TIM". It feels genuinely like trojan horsed terf language, in the sense of getting trans discourse using their language and categories. I wouldn't be surprised there were a few radfem servers or group chats out there laughing about it right now.

I honestly feel like sometimes that TME is used as an excuse to degender people. Like, we're seeing an uptick in folks who exclusively refer to transmascs as TMEs. It feels incredibly strange to be referred to exclusively as something that I (supposedly) am not, something that I don't experience. While never once acknowledging who and what I actually am.

Other forms of language that dileneate one's position relative to systemic oppression don't do this. White, cis, straight, etc, all of these words acknowledge both identity and one's position in social systems.

It becomes very apparent particularly when TME is used as a noun. Sometimes, we're not even TME people, we're just TMEs.

If your instinct is to jump to using terminology that degenders us and skips the need to acknowledge our actual identities, maybe you should question that.
