The parasocial relationship people have with Oliver is so weird.

Saying the way he is using his Instagram to proof that he hates buck tommy and is pro buddie.. is really weird

putting words into his mouth he never said or acting like they speak for him. When he was asked about the buck tommy storyline he always says nice things about it and they constantly ignoring it and taking everything out of context..

Some people in this fandom ( especially the buddie shipper's) taking this show way to seriously

He can't even go on Instagram live without people commenting about buddie...( When he was speaking about important stuff like he did weeks ago...

Also saying that the buck tommy part of the 911 fandom is the reason why everything is so toxic is honestly laughable.. because the buck and tommy relationship is new..and we have that kind of toxic behavior in the fandom since people started shipping buddie attacking the female actresses and now lou..

No wonder Oliver doesn't have Twitter anymore and doesn't interact that much with the fandom anymore because people are insane and it's a big problem when a fun show like 911 makes people act that way ..

Maybe you all need to step back from it.. because this behavior is ain't it and really embarrassing

Waited until the dust has settled to say this, but I think one of the biggest disconnects this fandom is experiencing is the difference between joke and intention. Saying you want kill Tommy with hammers, or that he should be shot is not a direct threat to a human being. This is the hyperbole website. Violent humor is a staple of this place. Saying you want your hot friend who just posted a selfie to punch you in the face doesn't really mean you want them to punch you in the face. It's just a violent joke. Fine, whatever.

But the attitude and vitriol behind some of y'all's "jokes" is the thing that changes your "humor" from an innocent little haha to something that's become actively hostile and uncomfortable toward gay/queer men in this fandom. Are you going to actively harm Tommy? No. Obviously. You can't because he's not real. But the gay/queer men in this fandom are, in fact, real. They are real, and they're witnessing an honestly unprecedented level of hatred toward an openly, obviously, unapologetically gay/queer character. That's the problem. Because your jokes stop feeling like "jokes" when the hatred (and fundamental and intentional willingness to misunderstand his humor, intentions, etc) behind the jokes is very... real and honestly disturbing. And if you can't see the problem with that, I'm sorry to say it, but you are the problem. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don’t want to be like “it’s homophobia” but genuinely people do not seem to see Gay Men as People who have unique experiences and personalities shaped by their gayness AND their masculinity.

Tommy is closed off and defensive in that scene because Gerrard basically called him a fairy to his face and now he’s being ambushed with a serious conversation. This is a natural way to react when you’re a gay man because (and I shouldn’t have to explain this) when you’re a gay man and a homophobe is near you, you get uncomfortable and have to retreat into a shell that will keep you safe. This is the reason so many gay men are “sassy” because having an acerbic tongue is often the only defense mechanism for a visibly feminine man. For more masculine men like Tommy, that defensive shell is going to look a lot like retreating hard into masculinity. So a gay man clamming up and getting snippy when faced with homophobia is pretty damn understandable.
