Here are some facts: All forests are connected. Some stories demand sacrifices. Nature has the strangest tendency towards uncanny symmetry. And none of the Sides are really prepared for a musical, magical, high-fantasy rescue mission, but it looks like that’s what they’re going to have to do anyway.

That is to say - Thomas seems to have been kidnapped by fairies.

Someone should really do something about that.

Hello, squamous friends, and welcome to my submission for this year’s @ts-storytime Big Bang! Now, it’s just possible that I may have gone overboard with this, but in my defense: I was left unsupervised.

many, many thanks to @autisticmight​ for being the BEST beta and pedantic detail research name person (i love u), and to my RL friends, who will probably never see this but still endured an incredible amount of fast-paced fae-lore infodumping at inopportune moments. 

Word count: 99089 words 

Characters: Thomas, Virgil, Janus, Roman, Logan, Patton, Remus, and a whole host of OCs. Joan and Talyn make brief appearances. 

Pairing(s): Mostly gen (with intense platonic DRLAMPT). Background OC/OC. (well. sort of. it’s complicated)

what happened with the madlibs artists? I saw it in a post you reblogged and don't know the situation.

ok so back in december, the madlibs storytime video got released. thomas and co had asked fans to do the art for the stories, like in the fwsa video. unlike the fwsa video, this video had far more artists and far less time for them to do their shit, which is probably why this whole thing happened.

flash-forward a few weeks, and this video by prince alex got released. he’s a big tss fan and a really cool creator, i rly recommend checking him out. alex was one of the animators on the madlibs and had a really shitty experience, and the moment the info started spreading, the rest of the animators backed him up.

in summary: thomas and co asked for fan animators, but paid them all ridiculously small fees. like, a dollar per second kind of small. this post breaks down how far that is from industry standard, as well as other info. the animators were given barely any time to finish the animations, and Thomas and co barely communicated with them, to the point that they didn't even know when the video was released.

and they couldn't talk about it. their contracts prevented them from speaking abt the project. i’m not fucking kidding. these animators were underpaid, overworked, and generally shat on, and they couldn’t even complain. emails were sent to the crew during the project, and most of them were brushed aside with a politely-worded fuck off.

eventually, thanks to the video and other animators coming forward, the cat got out of the bag. a few days of December were filled with ppl coming to terms with it, ‘cause even tho thomas wasn’t behind the pay itself, he was fully aware of the whole thing. and it sucked. hard.

the animators didn't want compensation (altho ppl encouraged them to donate to their kofi links.) they just wanted an apology and for thomas and co to learn from what happened. this was a shitty situation that clearly happened bc they didn't know how to handle this many animators on a project. and we all wanted an apology.

and now we’re here.

and i get it, ok? it can be easy to forget this stuff. u want to forget this stuff. u want to think just bc nobody’s talking abt it, u can move on. it can seem painful to keep dwelling on the bad spots.

but there’s been no apology. no compensation. no public acknowledgment. there has been nothing to make up for the animator abuse that occurred. thomas and co are doing the same fucking thing as some of yall are subconsciously doing--trying to forget abt it.

that’s not how u hold ppl accountable. mistakes can be forgiven, ‘cause fuckups happen, and u can never expect a celebrity to be perfect. but. people were hurt. there’s been no apology. if we forgive and forget, we stop asking for change. and this could happen again.

i’m not asking for thomas to get cancelled or whatever. i’m just saying this isn’t over. don’t let it be over. if u don't know abt this, educate urself (I'm gonna link some stuff below.) if u do, keep spreading the info. keep this in the public eye. keep this fandom buzzing. we’re not gonna forget, and we’re not gonna be silenced.

and if it makes u bummed to dwell on the bad stuff? i've said it before and ill say it again. this is not about u. it is about the people who were hurt. and thomas is not ur friend, and ur not doing the nice thing by forgiving him--ur doing the doormat thing. u can like thomas’ content and still hold him accountable. u can love sanders sides and still criticize the crew. u can say ‘i don’t hate thomas for this’ and still say ‘but i hate what happened.’

we should hate what happened. we should keep talking. we should wait for an apology, because we are under no contract to keep quiet. we never will be.

Oh, my word. Oh, my heart. I just - I know I’m a little late but, no joke, I couldn’t stop re-reading it OVER and OVER the moment you posted it and then I fell asleep at goodness-knows-how-late o’clock so I made myself get some rest and then re-read it again to gather my thoughts when I woke up but...just...

This was EVERYTHING I’d hoped for. And MORE.

Just...poor, dear Logan. First he gets ignored (as usual) and then THIS happens. My size-changing HCs of the Sides actually include them growing to 50-60 feet at the largest, maybe more in rare cases so this was perfect. I could feel his distress. I just wanted to give him a big hug of my own (as difficult as that would’ve been).

And then Patton comes along and he’s being so sweet and caring while trying to help and actually listens to Logan (he’s not the Side of love and comfort for nothing).

Then Roman feels so bad I could sense his remorse (he means well, even if he can be a little mean sometimes). Logan was gracious to forgive him and then the GIANT HUG between him and the others!! *happy wiggles* I ADORE the ‘gentle giant’ and ‘tender tiny’ dynamic: giants who are gentle and careful and soft with their tinies, and tinies who are caring and loving and affectionate with their giants. So this scene made me joyful in a way I can’t articulate.

Then Logan got back to normal and they made up and had a second hug and that made me joyful all over again. 🙂🙂🙂☺️

I am more than okay that you went over the word count. I was actually wondering if it wouldn’t be ENOUGH in case the story wasn’t fleshed out enough within what I’d picked, so this was perfect. The perfect length and the fic was cohesive and the right amount of hurt/comfort and just- *chef’s kiss*

There is just NOT ENOUGH Giant!Logan or Sizeshifter!Logan fics (or even Roman for that matter, now that I think about it), so I’m really happy that this came to fruition. He may be the Side who doesn’t ‘feel emotions’ but it doesn’t mean he should be left out/that possible stories with him aren’t there! I’ve a few SaSi G/t WIPs with size-changing Logan in my folder to contribute but I keep getting writer’s block on them. I’ll make them happen one day, though...I hope.

Forgive the novel I wrote and the caps and exclamations but...seriously. I love this. It’s wonderful. This makes my body seize up with euphoria and me smile so much my cheeks hurt. This is something I’m going to keep coming back to and reading whenever I feel down. This is everything I could ask for for my first g/t commission request and I’m so happy with it. So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. 🙂🙂🥰🥰

A Bad Prank and Worse Timing

Summary: A bad day is made worse when Roman decides to prank Logan.

 Logan sighed, rubbing a hand down his face as he entered his room, making sure the door was shut and locked behind him. He was exhausted. The day had been long, too long if he was being honest with himself. They’d had to deal with another one of Thomas’ many dilemmas, this one dealing with his first date with Nico. Which, to be fair, was not exactly Logan’s area of expertise. But he did have some things to say on the matter.

 However, and he really should have expected this, but he’d basically been ignored the entire time. Ignored and overruled simply because Roman was the romantic side and therefore didn’t need any of Logan’s ‘unwanted bouts of logic’.

 Roman’s words, not his.

 Logan knew he shouldn’t let it get to him, it wasn’t logical to hold onto things like this. But it was hard, especially since Roman allowed both Patton and Virgil to speak their own opinions on the matter and yet everytime Logan tried he was waved off. But the issue had been resolved and Thomas was happy. And that was all that mattered in the end, right?

 Right.

 But that didn’t stop Logan from looking back at the day with disdain.

Maybe Thomas and the crew should take writing classes so they can get their act together on the plot line 😒 If they’re not careful it’s gonna turn into the last season of GoT

(That sounds rude/petty but like I’ve been taking writing classes since quarantine started to keep myself busy and get back into writing like I used to, and a couple things my teachers have said not to do when writing stories, I see Thomas + Co. doing here i.e. too many sub plots, unresolved plot holes/conflicts etc. It’s all getting too complicated + chaotic.)

They really should slow down and tackle the current plots they have now instead of introducing more. I mean just look at everything major that popped up in season two: Janus showed up, Virgil and Patton’s relationship is falling apart, Roman (just Roman in general the boy is a mess) Remus was introduced, Virgil being a “dark side” and keeping it secret throughout most of the season, alluding to some history between Virgil and Janus, The wedding vs the callback, Janus being accepted by Patton, Thomas getting a love interest (I know this is from an Asides but it’s kinda hard to call that a separate series) and of course Roman being hurt at the end of POF.

Now how many of these have actually been resolved and addressed?

It’s all a mess and they really need to just stop and prioritize one thing, otherwise, they’ll just cram everything into one episode instead of giving each one the time and care it needs to develop naturally.

This!!!! So much this thank you so much for saying it! I only just got into Sanders sides last january and it became one of my biggest hyperfixation, but whenever people like me- and excuse me for assuming but also like you- who hyperfixate on something that we get inconsistent content for we're left to focus on the fandom. Which is great but theres only so long you can go without fuel for the fire before you completely lose interest in it whatsoever. I love Thomas, I love the team, I love what they're creating. But they are awful at communicating about something that thousands if not millions of people drop everything for just to see a pic of their favorite character in a skirt. I get that they want to make it as good as it can be and milk it a bit because it did become so big, but if you have to rewatch parts if not all of the series everytime an episode comes out just to remember what the plot is so the new one makes sense? Than that's a sign to step back and reevaluate what the series needs rather than what they're trying to make it be. At its core it is small, made by a small team in a small room- but theyre making it as if they shooting a box office production. If they cant even pay animators properly nor apologize for it afterwards then they really have their eyes on the wrong thing.

Sorry for the long rant I just- it was about the creators and message in the beginning it seems and it should be that way now, but it seems like its moved onto something bigger than they can chew and now they're stuck

YUP YUP YUP YUP YUP!!!!!!! Sanders Sides is my main special interest (I’m autistic), and it has been ever since January 2017. The first episode I can remember watching when it came out was Am I Original. and holy. GOD. there’s such a huge difference in how everything is handled now vs then.

we used to get a new episode every other week, and they were short, but they were SOMETHING. they weren’t emotionally draining. it was just a fun little series with the added bonus of learning about mental health stuff. the day that Anxiety vs Logic came out, I had a recital for college, and I watched it in the library like, two hours before my recital, and it did so much for me. that SINGLE recital was the only one where i didn’t have a panic attack before, during, or after. I used to run away at the last second every time, so that’s like. a BIG deal.

and then it just... slowly started getting further and further apart between episodes. and they got longer and longer. at first, it was like “Awesome!! less content, but higher quality? I’ll take it!” and then it became like. an Event.

It almost feels like getting a new episode now is like a new marvel movie coming out (at least how it was when I watched them), instead of a fun, informative webshow.

and you have absolutely nailed it about having to rewatch each episode to fully understand what’s going on!!! there’s SO many plots, and subplots, and new plots being introduced with each vanilla AND asides episode!!

if they could get a full studio to produce it for them, it would help so, so much. but they DON’T. they need to remember their limits.

I keep going back to red vs blue, but when they started off with 5 dudes in a spare bedroom, they didn’t do anything wild. they were doing machinima in halo. they didn’t add any type of additional animation until season 7, when they’d already begun to establish a company and could afford to hire someone who could do it. and by then, they had a full office, at least a couple dozen employees, another branch coming off of the main company (iirc). thomas and crew don’t have that yet. They’ve been pushing their limits, and that’s FINE, but there comes a time when you can’t push any further. like flying a plane too high in GTA5, it’s going to explode.

i don’t WANT sanders sides to fail. i want it to go on as long as it can, with as good a plot as possible. but they’re just. forgetting how small a team they are. and they need to remember that.

The artwork is GORGEOUS. And coupled with the wonderfully-written story...🥰🥰🥰
