Hell is more real than Heaven. Hell was taught with fear and anger, stirring those emotions. Visions of Hell incurred a visceral fear. They had to make us truly believe it in order to save us. By the time they were done with Hell, they didn’t need to explain Heaven with the same urgency and detail because we were desperate for anywhere that wasn’t Hell. If you asked too many questions about Heaven, you were chided, after all you would be with god and that should be enough. Reinforcing the fear of Hell because, what if I’m too sinful to get to Heaven? God was vague. Fire and pain were real. Experienceable. No wonder when we left the faith, the fear of Hell persisted. The hope of Heaven vanished as though it had never existed.
