Chapter 8 

“Hey Hobi and Namjoon want to have you over next week after you take your exam. They’re gonna cook a celebration dinner,” Jungkook said from his bed. Alina was sitting at her desk correcting the practice test she’d just taken.

“Oh that’s nice of them,” Alina said, “isn’t that kind of a premature celebration though? I won’t know my score for a while.”

“Ah come on Alina. You deserve to celebrate just for taking it. I’m gonna text them and say we’re in. The other guys will probably come too.”

Alina smiled, looking back at him. He had his headphones on, head on his pillow, one leg resting over the other. His foot was keeping beat with whatever song he was listening to. She had to admit, it was easier to study when he was here. His quiet company helped her, unless he had decided to be impatient and talkative that night. But even then, she rarely kicked him out. If anything, it helped her take breaks. 

She turned back to her studies for a while, slowing making her way through her to-do list for that night. She was in the middle of a question when she realized something.

“Hey, we never celebrated you getting your job at the gym,” she said, frowning. 

“There wasn’t any reason. I’m pretty sure Namjoon was just throwing me a bone anyway, not sure why,” Jungkook chuckled.

Alina didn’t laugh, though. “Jungkook don’t say that. It is a big deal that you got that position. Namjoon took a chance on you, and now you’re proving what an asset you are. He’s told me as much.”

Jungkook tilted his head up to look at her from his position in his bed. Seeing how serious she was, he let his grin drop into a gentle smile. “I appreciate what you’re saying, I really do. But this week is about you. You’ve put in a lot of work, and it’s not like the rest of your life has been uneventful,” he told her.

She decided to just accept the praise, but she would remember to do something for him later.

I’m really happy that Stan, specifically, was the one to say what us “haters” have been saying for ages. Because it validates a lot of the opinions which have been deemed negative and confirms that she is supposed to come across incredibly selfishly, not considering how her actions impact the people around her.

Beth can’t be a part of this. She makes everything about her. She does whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and the rules don’t ever apply.

I genuinely fucking love his attitude right now and the way Ruby sheepishly agrees with him, because she’s known for a while that her best friend doesn’t have her back the way she has Beth’s. She’s known that her family suffers as a result of Beth. I only hope that they really have Ruby address this with Beth because she needs to hear it

Can anybody tell me where the hell Jackson is and why he missed morning practice?

Chapter 9

Jungkook had been acting oddly for a few days. Half the time it felt like he was avoiding her, the other half he was on her side like glue. He’d been increasingly quiet, too, which was what worried her the most. 

After a while Alina had asked him if everything was ok, but he’d just told her he was fine and avoided her for a few hours. She didn’t want to make him feel cornered or interrogated, so she didn’t press him. But the behavior continued all week. If anything it had gotten worse, so Alina had decided she’d call Jimin and see if he knew anything. She didn’t like going behind Jungkook’s back, but he was really starting to worry her.

She figured the best time to do it would be on her way home from work, since Jungkook wouldn’t be around to hear her checking up on him.

She stepped off her train and onto the platform, getting out her phone and selecting Jimin’s contact.

It only rang twice before he picked up. 

“Hey Alina, what’s up?”

She could hear his smile through the phone, which put her slightly at ease. That meant there probably hadn’t been a falling out between Jungkook and any of the guys, which had seemed very unlikely anyway.

“Nothing really,” Alina said, “I’m just calling to ask you - I’m a little worried about Jungkook. Has he been acting differently to you?”

“I saw him the other day and he seemed fine. A little quiet maybe.”

“Yeah…it’s probably nothing.”

“Has he been doing anything else around you?” Jimin asked.

“I don’t know. He’ll kind of avoid me, or at least that’s how it feels. I thought maybe he just wanted space. We live in pretty close quarters. But then he’ll want to be right with me. He’s been sleeping badly, too. He’ll ask for my spare blanket before we go to bed, then he’ll push everything off of himself throughout the night.”

The line was quit for a second, and Alina was about to ask him if he was still there when Jimin said, “I’m not sure…do you want me to come by later tonight to check on him?”

“Maybe that’s a good idea. I don’t want him to feel like he’s doing something wrong or anything, he’s not. But maybe you can get him to tell you if everything’s ok.”

“Alright, no problem. I won’t be able to get there for a while, though. I’m teaching a beginner class for the next hour.”

“Ok, don’t rush. I’m close to home, anyway. See you later.”

It was almost five o’clock when Alina stepped through her front door. She knew Mina and Courtney were both working late tonight, so she and Jungkook were on their own for dinner. 

She walked into the kitchen, but she didn’t see Jungkook. He wasn’t in the living room either. 

“Jungkook?” She called out, wondering if he’d gone out.

Maybe he was taking a nap. He didn’t usually do that, but it was possible. She headed towards her room and opened the door quietly, just in case. 

Whatever she’d expected, it wasn’t what she saw.

Today I had a panic attack because a guy I barely know touch my hand and I was surprised because I haven’t see him coming! I know that for people in general it’s nothing and I’m just a baby who overreacted ! Generally I never talk or share any of this cause it’s really difficult for me to explain why but I want to share this because I’m tired of being ashamed and depressed! The trauma of a rape it’s like a petite mort you’ll never be who you were, this person is dead . So yes sometimes I will overreact about something ridiculous and I would try to contain my tears , fear and anger . I don’t want to get out drinking cause I don’t feel safe and other times I talk to myself and said No this isn’t defined who you are , but it’s difficult and I think we really didn’t talk the after for the person the trauma, the nightmares and fears
