Ship songs to help with inspiration!

Hey I’m bored and needing writing inspiration, so here is a master list of songs that remind me of my favourite Fairy Tail ships to help inspire me and my fellow Fairy Tail fanfiction writers. (Sorry if your ship isn’t here, I just did the more popular ones)

NaLu

Lucky–Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat // This one is so sweet, and really focuses on the friends to lovers thing. “Lucky I’m in love with my best friend.”

I Don’t Love You–My Chemical Romance // This one is more for heartbreak or angsty scenes, but definitely reminds me of the end of the Tartarus arc. “When you go, would you even turn to say, I don’t love you like I did yesterday.”

(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To–Weezer // This is a really upbeat playful song about making the first move, that goes really well with NaLu’s fun vibes. “I was next to you and you were right there next to me. Then I said, girl, if you’re wondering if I want you to, (I want you to).”

HELLO–Allie X // “It’s like you knew as you came out, out of nowhere and into my life. It took you a while, but you found me. Now I’m sure that I’m gonna survive. And it started with a hello, take the lead and I will follow. I could love you for the rest of my life. Don’t you ever let me go.” This could also work very well for Gruvia.

Trade Mistakes–Panic! At the Disco // “I may never sleep tonight, as long as you’re still burning bright. If I could trade mistakes for sheep, count me awake before you sleep. I’ll stay awake ‘till I trade my mistakes, or they fade away.” I love how this song could go both ways when talking about how they can’t sleep around each other. And the parts about mistakes fits well with the various regrets Natsu has when it comes to Lucy. (Not being able to save her future self, leaving her without saying goodbye, etc.)

Bright–Echosmith // “And I see colours in a different way. You make what doesn’t matter fade to grey. Life is good, and that’s the way it should be.” A cute song that talks about stars and space a lot, comparing it to love, perfectly describes Natsu and Lucy’s feelings for each other.

Bucket–Carly Rae Jepsen // “I don’t know how we are going to build a castle now. Do you want to start again somehow? I’ll stay until the sun goes down.” A song about new beginnings, and wanting to see each other happy. Fits NaLu especially well just at the begging of the Avatar arc, as they try to repair their relationship.  “And I’ve been waiting to recognize that sparkle that’s in your eyes.”

Fire N Gold–Bea Miller // I mean the title alone screams NaLu, and the lyrics really match up with the unique bond Natsu and Lucy share. “There is something different about you and I, and I feel like I have known you my whole life. There is Beauty behind every tear you cry, sometimes it’s just hard to realize.”

MIssing You–Set It Off // A sad song about fearing the relationship is going to fall apart, and wanting to fight for it, for fear of having to live without each other. Again, I picture this as Natsu and Lucy repairing things after Tartarus.  I can’t really put this one into words, but it’s really worth a listen. “I dropped my heart, and she broke it’s fall. This ale’s become my ailment, I hope I didn’t drop the ball. Call me please my dear.” “Why do we have these fights? Because I’m scared of the end. It doesn’t have to ‘cause we need each other.”

Gruvia

Sweater Weather–The Neighbourhood // I just really like this song tbh, also it goes “It’s too cold for you here.” Which is really fitting for Gray to say to Juvia

SANCTUARY–Allie X // “I can always go to my sanctuary, baby, where I run. And when the streets are burning baby, and I know. If they come with torches, cuse they don’t like the truth, they can’t hurt me when I’m with you.” I think this is perfect to describe how Juvia feels so safe with Gray.

The Lonely–Christina Perri // This is more for angst, and fits well with Juvia’s feelings when Gray abandons her at the start of the Avatar arc. “Dancing slowly in an empty room, can the lonely take the place of you?”

Chasing Cars–Snow Patrol // This is one that could go for multiple ships as well, but I personally really like the image it gives me with Gruvia. “I don’t quite know, how to say, how I feel.” “If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and, just forget the world?” I think it fits well with Gray trying to figure out how he feels towards Juvia.

Scary Love–The Neighbourhood // This song is so perfect for Gruvia because it describes how Gray feels overwhelmed by Juvia simply because he is new to the idea of love. “Your love is scaring me, no one has ever cared for me as much as you do.”

Always–Panic! At the Disco // This song was basically written about Gray Fullbuster, its speaks of pretending to be okay by being closed off, and talking about finally loving someone back, after they’ve been falling for you for a long time. And if that isn’t Gruvia, I don’t know what is. “I’m skin and bone, just a king and a rusty throne. Oh the castles, under siege, but the sign outside says ‘leave me alone.’ It was always you, falling for me. Now there’s always time, calling for me.”

Give Me Love–Ed Sheeran // “Give me love like her, ‘cause lately I’ve been waking up alone.” This one’s a little bit more on the angst side, especially when you imagine it as Gray considering his feelings for Juvia, and wondering if he will ever be able to confess, or if he will have to end things for her own good. “Give a little time to me, or burn this out. We’ll play hide and seek to turn this around.”

Gajevy

Wonderwall–Oasis // OKAY I KNOW ITS A MEME BUT HEAR ME OUT. I’m telling you, just listen to it, like really listen to it, then look me in the eyes and tell me you can’t picture Gajeel singing it to Levy. ( “I don’t believe that anybody, feels the way I do about you now.” )

Angel With a Shotgun–The Cab // Honestly this song makes me cry every time and the more I listen to it the more I see how fitting it is for Gajeel’s feelings on Levy. “They say before you start a war, you better know what you’re fighting for. Well baby you are all that I adore, if love is what you need, a soldier I will be. I’m an angel with a shotgun, fighting ‘till the war’s won, I don’t care if heaven won’t take me back. I’ll throw away my faith babe, just to keep you safe. Don’t you know you’re everything I have?”

Church–Fall Out Boy // “If you were church, I’d get on my knees. Confess my love, I’d know where to be. My sanctuary, you’re holy to me.” Since we all know Gajeel secretly worships Levy. ;)

Tear In My Heart–twenty one pilots // Because Levy is definitely Gajeels soft spot, and has affected him and changed him more than anyone else. “Sometime’s you gotta bleed to know, that you’re alive and have a soul. But it takes someone to come around, and show you how. She’s the tear in my heart, I’m alive.”

King–Lauren Aquilina // “There’s no logic in your sadness. you don’t gain a single thing from misery, take it from me.” I love imagining Levy softly signing this song to Gajeel when he’s upset, to help him calm down, and stop being so hard on himself. “You’ve got it all, you lost your mind in the sound. There’s so much more, you can reclaim your crown. You’re in control, rid of the monsters inside your head. Put all your faults to bed. You can be king again.”

Coming Down–Halsey // Just a song describing Levy’s slight obsessision with Gajeel, and how much she loves him. “I found God. I found him in a lover. When his hair falls in his face, and his hands so cold they shake.” “I’ve got a lover, a love like religion, I’m such a fool for sacrifice.”

Jerza

Good Grief–Bastille // “Every minute and every hour, I’ll miss you, I’ll miss you, I’ll miss you more.” Need I say more??

Alone Together–Fall Out Boy // “I don’t know where I’m going but do you got room for one more troubled soul?” Perfectly touches on feeling broken but just wanting to be together, hardcore Jerza vibes.

Distance–Tate McRae & Sean Lew // Another one that falls more on the angst side (as most Jerza things tend to.) Very fitting for how they struggle with the distance from each other. “I still wait, ‘cause there’s that part if me, knowing that I need that space to be.” “I keep a distance, but not on purpose, and I can tell you feel the same.”

The Last of the Real Ones–Fall Out Boy // “I was just an only child of the universe, and then I found you, and then I found you. You are the sun, and I am just the planet’s spinning around you.” I love thinking of this song like Jellal praising Erza, I truly believe he thinks of her as the centre of his universe. “I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you, but not as much as I do.”

Dream Alone–NateWantsToBattle // “I know I said I’d keep my distance, but you’re becoming an addiction. You gave me a taste, kiss it away. So much shit going on in my brain.” This song could easily go both ways, talking about how despite they’re promises, Erza and Jellal keep running back to each other.

Broken–lovelytheband // “I like that you’re broken, broken like me. Maybe that makes me a fool. I like that you’re lonely, lonely like me. I could be lonely with you.” Because Jellal and Erza are connected by a dark past, and take comfort in knowing and trusting each other with their pain.

Hold On–Chord Overstreet // “The joy and the chaos, the demons we’re made of. I’d be so lost if you left me alone.” I can’t say much about this one other than the lyrics are powerful, and the raw emotions in them are pretty self-explanitory. “Hold on, I still want you. Come back, I still need you. Let me take your head, I’ll make it right, I swear to love you all my life. Hold on, I still need you.”

Zervis

The Ghost Of You–My Chemical Romance // So this song is anything but soft, and its utterly heartbreaking, but a lot of the lyrics actually feel like they were written about Zeref and his tragic love for Mavis. “If I died, we’d be together now. I can’t always just forget her.” “At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies.” “For all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me. For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me.” I could go on forever.

Saviour–Rise Against // “That’s when she said I don’t hate you boy, I just want to save you while there’s still something left to save. That’s when I told her I love you girl but I’m not the answer for the questions that you still have.”  Again with those doomed/hopeless love vibes that Zervis carries.

Immortals–Fall Out Boy // “I try to picture me without you but I can’t. ‘Cause we could be immortals, immortals, just not for long, for long. And live with me forever now.” I mean, I think just the title of this song is enough said.

House Of Memories–Panic! At the Disco // Has the theme of not wanting to be forgotten, and how what they remember each other to be may not be who they are now. “I think of you from time to time, more than I thought I would. You were just to kind.” “Then will you remember me in the same way, as I remember you?”

All I See–NateWantsToBattle // “And I don’t know why, but im mesmerized by your broken eyes. We’ve got this road, and we both know where it’s bound to go. And all I see is you next to me, a ghost of you tangled up in my sheets. It weighs me down to this ocean floor, I know I’ll drown,  but I’m begging for more.” Perfect song to describe Mavis falling for Zeref, even when she knows it will end in tragedy. 

ElfEver

Young and Beautiful–Lana Del Ray // “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me when I’ve got nothing but my aching soul? I know you will.” I like this song for ElfEver because I imagine that Evergreen genuinely has these insecurities, and I love the idea of Elfman reassuring her that he loves her for so many reasons, that it wouldn’t matter what she looked like.

Smoke and Guns–NateWantsToBattle // “You’re smoke and guns. You think I’m sick of it? I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’re too much fun. think I can’t handle it? Left with no words and yet so much to say.” Because despite how he acts, Elfman loves Evergreens sassy attitude, and the fact thats she isn’t a pushover is a huge turn on for him. Could also work well with NaLu.

Chendy

That’s So Us–Allie X // A really cute song, has some great best friend/lovers vibes that really fit Chendy. “What I like about you baby is how you annoy me daily, but you still fucking amaze me. That’s so us, that’s so us. Yeah we’re both a lot to handle, I’m a Leo, you’re a Cancer, we take on the world together. That’s so us, that’s so us.” Could also fit ElfEver very well.

Bubbly–Colbie Caillat // “You make me smile, please stay for a while now just take your time, wherever you go.” “Under cover stayin’ dry and warm, you give me feelings that I adore.” An adorable song about getting butterflies, and falling in love.

StingYu

Duet–Penny & Sparrow // “I’ve seen you carry family, and all my insecurities.” This is in general a great, adorable song that could go well with any ship, but the fact that it talks about how he feels like a burden really reminds me of Sting’s insecurities about being a bad Master, or not good enough for Yukino.

Sweet Soul–alayna // This is just a really fluffy song, again, could go well with various ships, but reminds me of StingYu because they are both such sweethearts. “Baby, I need your sweet soul.” 

Haven’t Had Enough–Marianas Trench // “We’ve been stuck now so long, we just got the start wrong. One more last try, I’ma get the ending right. You can’t stop this, and I must insist that you haven’t had enough.” Because Sting is determined to make up for all the bad things Sabertooth did to Yukino, and is also very flirty ;)

Miraxus

Lego House–Ed Sheeran // “I’m out of touch, I’m out of love. I’ll pick you up when you’re feeling down. And out of all these things I’ve done. I think I love you better now.” I feel like Laxus probably has a lot of self-doubt, ever since he turned on Fairy Tail, and I feel like this song captures how sometimes he may not feel worthy of Mira’s heart.

Nicotine–Panic! At the Disco // “I taste you on my lips and I can’t get rid of you. So I say damn your kiss and the awful things you do. Yeah you’re worse than nicotine.” Because Mira and Laxus both know damn well what they’re getting into and both get frustrated when they can’t get what they want from each other when they want it. (Kisses, affection, anything.)

Electric Love–BORNS // This is another one where the title just screams the ship it’s meant for. Its about being unable to stop thinking about, and craving more of someones love. And I imagine its how Laxus thinks about Mira. “Baby you’re like lighting in a bottle. I can’t let you go now that I got it.”

Kinabra

Miss Mysterious–Set It Off // This song is so sad, it moves me to tears every time, and fits perfectly with how Cobra is constantly chasing Kinana only to always let her go in the end. “Miss Mysterious, who are you? Where’s the ghost of what we had? Did you erase it from your past?” “I said go, run for your life, and tell me I’m right. The saying goes, if you love someone, let them go.”

Low–Heirsound // “Years ago how would anyone of us know? I’d be following your notes from coast to coast.” A song about being drawn together by fate, at the bittersweet feeling of taking comfort in each others sadness. “We’ll pretend we know, all there is to know and it’s our last time feeling low.”

So this got way longer than it was supposed to, I spent like 3 hours on this, and cried so much, but I had so much fun doing it! Shoutout to @ship-ambrosia for staying up and helping me make some decisions, and crying with me, of course! I hope this helps some of you find inspiration, I know it helped me. And if not, at the very least you now have hours of music to go listen to and cry about ships over. Have Fun! ;)
