Paul steps forward and stands at center stage. He’s the only one playing. He’s just shredding on this distinct guitar riff. Then Richard walks up alongside him and joins in. They stand there like a wall, and since both are playing the same riff, the effect is even more powerful. They each voice the chords somewhat differently, and a friction emerges between the guitars. When two instruments play the exact same thing, sometimes what happens is that instead of getting louder the notes cancel each other out. I love it when the guitarists stand next to each other and play in harmony like this. They really look like a force. Like in chess when two rooks are stacked on top of each other. Nobody’s getting past them.
