Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. I'm very sick of people hating and ridiculing girls who ship gay couples. I'm NOT saying that gay fetishisation is not a huge problem , because it is. However, it is not fair to assume that every girl that ships a gay couple is fetishizing them.

First of all, internalised misogyny is very real and I don't like the ever negative connotation of the discourse around it. Although I do not condone the hate that some fangirls trow to every female character, we can't ignore all the other aspects of the issue.

As every woman is aware of, to some extent, internalised misogyny is a daily struggle in our lives. I personally believe that it is very difficult, especially at a young age, not to feel competitive towards other women. Personally growing up it was a real struggle for me, feeling envious of other women was a problem I had to work on for years and no-one talks about the feeling of deep guilt that comes with that jealousy. Unfortunately, the awareness of this problem is not the solution, it is a continuous and emotionally exhausting work in progress. All of this to say, it's not fair to to judge girls who are not able to ephatize and feel for a man-woman relationship on a show.

Another point I'd like to make is that I believe heterosexual women (of course I can't talk for everyone, this is just my perspective) have a very different way of perceiving and living relationship than other demographics. From what I've experienced, a possibile romantic relationship for hetero women always starts with them being sexually desirable to the man. This is basically the first step before everything else, the sexual desire of the man (which is often very obvious and explicit).

Also in TV shows this is usually the case, when a female character is introduced it is either obvious that she is sexually desirable for the male character OR nothing will ever happen between the two. Basically, there is no type of emotional build up, wondering, closeness, before a romantic relationship is established (with some exeptions of course).

In conclusion, gay ships allow girls to fall in love with a relationship between two characters from which they do not feel "threatened" and a romantic relationship which is not trivial and obvious from the beginning, with slow emotional build up and closeness and RESPECT (also sometimes difficult to find in hetero TV couples).
