5:04am with jake, a short drabble.

bringing your hands up to curl into your hair in frustration, you shut your eyes tightly. the past week, the work overload for school has been overwhelming. the cut off date for more than a few of them were in the next upcoming week and most of them haven’t even been started yet. you let out another huff of anger, giving your hair a small tug before dropping your head to the table on-top of your work, letting your hands fall down beside you.

unbeknownst to you, jake was busying himself at a nearby grocery store, scanning his curious eyes across the colorful shelves. “ah.” he exclaimed to himself when his eyes laid upon a specific type of snack you had always loved. i mean, it was the least he could do as a boyfriend to support you. he knew it would be stressful and he wanted to help. he just didn’t know how.

you didn’t know how much time had passed just sitting there with your head buried in your work when you heard your front door creak open. was it finally the grim reaper deciding it was your time? your heart panted at the thought, causing you to shoot up straight from your recently slouched position in the chair. you shuffled around uncomfortably, peeking towards the door with a scrunched up face. light footsteps padded up the stairs. you could recognise those footsteps anywhere.

letting out a large huff of relieve, you stood up straight, ignore the pain in your lower body due to not having moved for so long before waddling your way towards your bedroom door. you opened the door with a sigh, throwing yourself into the arms of whoever had been unlucky enough to be standing there.

“woah there. hey my love..” his voice rasped out. just as you had thought. your one and only boyfriend jake. you lifted your head from his chest, looking up at his adorable puppy eyes that were already looking at you. just looking at jake made you notice how long it had been since you had seen him.

so stressed from the work overload, you had cancelled all your plans with him, giving him unreasonable excuses as to why you couldn’t see him. it had him really worried when you cancelled on him earlier today so he decided to come over and see what the problem really was.

“i really missed you. what’s going on?” he asked you, peering into your eyes, a gentle expression caressing his face. you sighed, dropping your head back into his chest wordlessly. he seemed to know what it had meant though. the light sound of plastic rustle could be heard through the quiet stomp sphere when jake moved his hand up, stepping back from you to allow him some space. “here. i brought there for you on my way here.” he said, holding up the nearly full plastic bag in front of him to you, giving it a small take to further encourage you to take it.

you tipped your head to the side sympathetically, pouting. “jake.. you didn’t have to.” you said, not denying that you were in fact grateful for your boyfriends attentiveness and kindness. you took the bag into your hands, leaning up to peck your boyfriends lips because intertwining your other hand with his.

jake took the lead, guiding you both into your bedroom, the dim light from your study table lighting the room. just from that, he knew what he was going to walk into your room being like.

messy bedsheets, clothes all over the floor, papers all over your desk. jakes face only frowned as he looked around your room, taking in the very unusual state. “baby… why wouldn’t you tell me.” you said softly, pulling his eyes away from your room to lay on your smaller figure. “i didn’t want to bother you. i’ve just been so busy i-… i just forgot okay? it’s nothing.” you said, avoiding his eye contact. just the tone in his voice made you feel guilty enough.

he sighed, moving his hands to gently caress the sides of your face while lifting it so you could meet eye contact with him. “ honey.. i’m here for you, you know that. why wouldn’t you just tell me?” he sighed again, placing a kiss on your forehead before stepping away and dropping his arms, looking around the room again. “doesn’t matter now, let’s just get this room cleaned up. i read that a clean room improves mind health. and plants help oxygenate the room. let’s go buy some plants later!” and on and on goes jake, rambling about cute little things that he was going to make sure would help.

soft footsteps padded into the dimly lit bedroom before his soft skin clashes against yours as he flops down practically on top of you. niki has been so busy with his group’s most recent comeback that he hasn’t had time to spend with you. he grumbles something under his breath that you aren’t able to decipher before he lifts his lead to look at you, almost as if he was waiting for some type of response from you. you, half asleep, meet his gaze with a confused hum. he shakes his head, basically discarding whatever he was saying to you. with a soft smile, he leans towards you and places his soft and plum lips against your forehead, letting his lips touch linger there for a moment before hesitantly pulling away. with hazy eyes, you looked up at him before he pulled your body, small next to his, towards him to cuddle up. with a small content smile, niki pays one more kiss on your forehead before shutting his eyes. “ thank you for waiting for me. i promise i won’t make you wait any longer” he grumbles, sucking in a deep breath before letting it out very slowly. niki shoves his nose into the crook of your neck, a smile instantly gracing his features. you were his home. tangles limbs, comfy silence and the dimmed light gracing your features. what else could he want?

“no no, it’s wa-tashi y/n desu. but the u at the end it silent.” niki explains, demonstrating it with his own name. you groaned, flopping back against the couch with a loud huff as you desperately tried to find the space in your brain to learn more.

“riki, this is so hard!” you whined, closing your eyes tightly before slinging a lazy arm over your forehead to shield yourself from the bright lights of your living room. “it’s notttt~ you’re just silly” niki says with a small coo, leaning over you to peck the tip of your nose that was only barely visibly. you sighed loudly,lifting your arms so that you could look at niki.

“alright alright, let’s go take a break. but ask for it in japanese first” he teased, giggling when you landed a playful slap on his shoulder

— “i participated in a lot of beauty pageants when i was a kid,” you spoke to the camera, mentally preparing yourself for the teasing you were about to receive from the boys — who all oh’ed. 

“did you win?” jungwon asked with a smile.

embarrassed, you smiled, “yes…”

“how often?” 

“all the time?” jake said cheekily, smiling widely when you grew shy.

“hm,” you tried to laugh it off, “i did win,, quiet often,” 

the boys, niki and sunghoon especially, yelled. heesung leaning forwards to shake you by the shoulders. one of his hands squished your cheeks gently, “pretty (name), our pretty (name),”

you hid your face in your hands curling into yourself. niki, who you would describe as your biggest anti, laughed at your obvious embarrassment and laid his head on your shoulder.

— “and here we have (name) and jake,” sunghoon introduced, zooming the camera in on you resting on jakes shoulder. 

jake put his finger to his lips, “be quiet, our (name) is sleeping,” 

sunghoon walked closer, camera focusing on your sleeping face. his free hand caressed your cheek, “ah, so cute. our (name) is so cute~”

with the hand that wasn’t holding his phone, jake reached up and patted your head with a satisfied look on his face.

— you walked through the door, wearing a beautiful dress with equally beautiful accessories and hair. a silence fell over the room when you closed the door behind you, eyes turned to you. you leaned against the door, growing shy at the attention. a few of the staff began complimenting you, cooing as you grew flustered. 

jungwon and heesung were by your side in a flash, compliments falling from their lips. jay came as well and took your hand and made you twirl, dress flaring out. everybody cooed and awed. 

“noona, you look so pretty,” jungwon, your beloved leader, complimented as you turned your back to the room and hid your face in your hands. 

“stop teasing me,” you mumbled. 

“we’re not teasing you, we’re telling the truth,” jay said. he placed his hands on your hips and spun you around to face the room, “you look beautiful,”

— “noona’s voice is so pretty,” sunoo complimented, focused on you recording your parts.

jake agreed, “honey voice,” 

“noona always get her parts done quickly,” sunoo continued to the camera, “she’s in and out,”

you stepped out of the booth, waving to the camera, “what are you talking about?”

“you,” jake answered, standing up from the couch, “and your beautiful voice,”

you pressed your lips together, turning your head away from him. 

he chuckled, messing with your hair when he walked past you.

you sat down where he was previously sat, sunoo on your left. sunoo laid his head on your shoulder, “you do have a beautiful voice, noona,” 

“... shut up,”

“it’s true,” 

your hand went to cover his face in a weak attempt to shut him up. he laughed, burying his face in your shoulder.
