THE WAY MY HEART DROPPED WHEN I READ YOUR TAG... YOU'RE RIGHT!! There's... there's only one reasonable way to handle this...
Original post!

Io stiffens, her blood running cold...
The weight of the realization heavy. So, so heavy. How careless of her to drop her guard, a sting of regret seizing her. To think any creature isn't a ravenous, blood-thirsty beast.. to think, her Pikmin, so near to their demise. All because of her. "No...n-no, not again, no..." She could feel her lips imitate these words as if they were recited countless times before. The only sense of understanding she could grasp was her fears; now, all of them, laid out in front of her once more. It wasn't a nightmare, however, not the one's she had grown accustomed to; it was all real, a cruel twist of fate to watch play out. All over again. It felt as if the future of their lives were only heartbeats to an end and there would be no one else to blame; not the creature, not the Pikmin... never them, she stifled a noise to such a thought. But her. Io's vision narrowed. Her senses all numb, only that of which was the sediment beneath her. She couldn't hear anything, not the panicked cries of her Pikmin, not the seamless bellow of the fascinating creature before them. Only silence that became deafening. A scene Io beheld in dreadful clarity soon fell into darkness, one question ringing in her mind. One begging the retelling of a horrible story. It begs, "Will you do things differently?"

As Io awoke, the creature was no where to be seen. "Was it ever there?" She questioned. The only signs were of her Pikmin, now surrounding her with their wide and innocent eyes. She quickly scrambled up, feeling around as if her memory were tangible and scattered around her. Io counted each Pikmin, recalling that there had been... One, two, three... She twisted about and found the last Pikmin had clung to her arm, precious tears falling from its eyes. In a small breath, she managed a quiet, "Four..." That was when a sob arose, an unpleasant one, which soon clasped at her throat. Io grasped for these few Pikmin, hugging them closely, feeling the grief overwhelm her body. Sobs shaking both her and her Pikmin. Even through the protective material of her spacesuit, she felt the warmth of their bodies. A few Pikmin still wriggled about in the efforts to become comfortable, their chattering to one another causing Io's ears to prick up despite her mourning. Only the fourth Pikmin had been still, its nose in the nook of her neck. Outside of all the layers, her helmet... the golden band around her neck; she felt it. In all it's realness, warmth, liveliness; all of it in her arms. A new story to behold. A new lesson to learn. A new life to live with these few. Io squeezed them more closely, never wanting to let them go. An image soothed over her strain, one that revealed a future with these Pikmin. All of it, starting here.

They just can’t catch a break, huh?
boys in stem and their obsessive yellow freaks after them while they write in journals

Yeah I suppose it’s easy to just go with “she did bad things when Olimar was away.”
And that’s fair because seeing what Olimar has to go through, it’s only salt in the wound when you find out his wife is mistreating the kids and using up his salary.
But it’s important to remember that this man has been missing for TWO MONTHS and she is deeply struggling to care for a whole family on her own.
Sure she got some growing to do but if you let Olimar go home and be with his family for a bit, I’m sure they can work things out and discuss the issues of privacy and disappearance and go back to loving each other.
perhaps this is an unpopular take but my least favorite thing in the pikmin fandom is people who try to break up olimar and his wife!!!!!!! No!!!!!! Please stop just have mercy!!!!! Just let him have a happy family please!!!!! I know that she needs to be pushed aside if olimar is to be shipped with anyone else but no!!!!!! I would be more ok with it if people didn’t try to spin olimar’s wife as some demon!!! Stop that immediately!!!!! Every single pikmin character is flawed in some way don’t you DARE come over here calling her a bad or greedy person and not the president or louie or EVEN OLIMAR HIMSELF??? ARE WE FORGETTING THAT OLIMAR IGNORED LOUIE’S WARNINGS AND WENT AHEAD TO THE FORMIDABLE OAK SOLEY BECAUSE HE WANTED TREASURE??? I WILL EXPLODE IF SOMEONE TRIES TO IMPLY THAT OLIMAR’S WIFE IS A BAD PERSON AND THAT SHE AND OLIMAR SHOULD GET DIVORCED. I WILL CRY AND EXPLODE. JUSTICE FOR OLIWIFE.
Oooooooooo this is very good headcanon indeed yes…
while i'm normally a bit adverse to videos About my major interests because i can get really petty about details, but this video piqued my interest since it's about a part i don't personally know much about- the actual classification behind the creatures of Pikmin! really interesting watch!
anyways the reason i'm talking about this (other than just recommending the video) is because of a question asked near the end of the video: Who is Kageyami?
see, the scientific name for bulborbs (Oculus kageyamii), has an -i suffix, which implies the "kageyamii" comes from a modern male name (the female equivalent being -ae). the real life examples of the suffix given in the video of this are Caerostris darwini (don't look that up if you're arachnophobic btw), named after Charles Darwin, and Oplurus cuvieri, from Georges Cuvier. so the question is, who was this species named for? now, in my eyes, there's two possible answers for this.
the Doylist answer: they're named for Daisuke Kageyama, who is credited as a character designer for Pikmin. this explanation is also the one given on Pikipedia's page for the Bulborb.

and, what I would like to posit, the Watsonian answer: Kageyami/Kageyama is Olimar's surname. bulborbs are already named for the family dog, Bulbie (and it's Chappy for both in Japan!)- i think it would make sense if that familial naming scheme went a little further than just the common name. after all, bulborbs were some of the first creatures Olimar discovered, and well... it wouldn't be unusual behaviour.

I would never forget the spookiest time of the year! 🎃
