Sketch Dump for Diana Wynne Jones' "Conrad's Fate" (Chrestomanci Series). Conrad's Fate is my favorite DWJ books. I like how Conrad is convinced through most of the book that all the bad things happening to him are caused by his (nonexistant) bad karma. I also quite like Mr Amos' character for being pear-shaped. "The Bishop down in Stallchester was much less awe-inspiring than Mr Amos was - although it was hard to see why. He was the most pear-shaped man I had ever seen. His stripped waistcoat rounded front, his black coat speard at the sides, and his hands had to reach a long way in order to claps behind him."

Interesting things did happen, but always to somebody else.
Diana Wynne Jones, Howl’s Moving Castle (1986)

I remember loving Danny Devito's movie Matilda when I was a child - I still do, for that matter. Recently, I had the great pleasure to read the original story by Roald Dahl and I fell in love even more with this bright little girl's universe. This piece is a bit of a cross between the movie and the book. I love the idea of Matilda having intelligent brown eyes, but I simply could not imagine her wearing something else than Mara Wilson's little blue dress.

The Little Red Riding Hood and and Great Big Wolf. I purposefully chose to show as little skin as possible in this piece - I think women don't need to be showing off crudely their assets to be gorgeous and desirable, thank you very much. Besides, this is supposed to be a 1800's German fairytale. I'm pretty sure fifteen years-old teens at that time didn't venture into woods wearing 6-inch high heels leather boots and lingerie. Very inpractical stuff to go visiting your grandmother into.

Labyrinth.
Belated hommage to David Bowie. Labyrinth used to be on one of my favourite movies as a child. Much to my shame, I hadn't watched it in over 15 years when David Bowie died. When they aired it on TV as an hommage to him, I realised how much I've missed that movie without even knowing it. Bad costumes and acting appart, the Labyrinth is a cunning movie, joyfully irrationnal and mercilessly logical, that takes the watcher away to a magical world of insanity and wonders. An ode to imagination.
Thanks for the ride, David.
