During the vote they held at chapter 1. Did they really go vote? Was it fair? What should have happened or what was missing to consider it a fair vote?

So i went on a trip with my family (mainly why I've disappeared for a while) and today my 5 year old cousin wanted me to play with her. She is genuinely the sweetest and smartest little ray of sunshine I've met, and since my brain is the way it is, it reminded me that the smallest littluns in lord of the flies were her age. And I can't even begin to describe the heartbroken I felt at the thought that such innocent beings like her, who are rightfully oblivious to the cruelty of the world, had to go through what the novel describes in that Island.

In chapter 1, during the piglet scene, why did Jack take so long to stab it? Have you ever had the life of an animal between your hands? How did it feel? Have you ever hunted or fished to eat? How does it feel?
