This isnât really an ask but something that just kinda bugs me about the fandom is their portrayal of certain people intelligence terasaka being the biggest example like donât get me wrong a lot of the jokes of him being dumb are really funny and I dont think heâs some sort of genius but he did get into a school renowned for its smart students and I feel like thatâs ignored alot of the time not to mention he got top 50 in I think it was midterms but what do you think I could just be dumb
No I completely get you. Thatâs an aspect of fandom characterization that always annoyed me too :/ Whenever people make funny posts about Terasaka and the gang, but the humor only revolves around their âstupidity.â It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth đ
Because yeah sometimes it is funny, and they are dumbasses sometimes lmao, but thatâs just one of their traits. It shouldnât be a defining factor although I guess I get it, since theyâre not super popular characters either.
And yeah!!!! I agree, he was likely really good at studying since he got into Kunugigaoka. And itâs not that he lost his intelligence: he simply fell out of practice by the canon time, given that he hasnât done his own work for a while.
When he gets into the top 50, itâs because heâs started applying himself again finally thanks to Korosensei. Itâs a similar situation to Nakamura, if you think about it. Maybe thatâs why he sympathized with her đ
I also really dislike when people automatically think âbook smartsâ = only intelligence. That is completely wrong. There are soooooo many different types of smarts, and one of the points of AssClass is emphasizing that with every member of 3-E.
Even if Terasaka is lacking in traditional academics, heâs not a completely incompetent idiot. He has really great emotional intelligence, leadership skills, culinary craft, and he literally goes into politics when he grows up đ You need to have some smarts in that field.
But no, youâre not dumb nonny, I totally agree. Iâm glad to see better characterization of him in fandom stuff lately tho

Hiromi is a different breed of bastard.
I don't believe she deserved that whole redemption arc, especially in such a short amount of time.
She not only emotionally abused Nagisa, she physically abused him and put him in danger as well.
I don't think we talk about how she drugged and tied up Nagisa, trying to force him to burn the school down enough. That was genuinely insane and terrible.
Nagisa must've been so traumatized by that incident alone, not to mention the other things she's done.
She forced her child to do things he didn't want to do, such as:
Grow out his hair
Apply to a school he didn't want
Live out her failures
Burn down the fucking school
There's definitely more, but I'm too tired to remember right now lmao
Hiromi manipulated Nagisa and made him her puppet to relive the life she failed to succeed in.
Every time he spoke up about what he wanted to do, she would yell at him and say things such as "do you know how hard I work for you?", which is emotional abuse and manipulation.
Yet, she got a second chance because Nagisa has a lot of compassion in his heart.
I feel like Hiromi has caused Nagisa so much grief and got away with it.
I don't like how her narrative was written, she shouldn't have been forgiven, let alone so easily.
I wish Nagisa had said "I do not forgive you, but I am willing to work on our relationship if you are willing to allow me to be my own person" or something along those lines. She does not deserve sympathy or forgiveness, she needs to be put in prison for child abuse.
Hiromi's narrative is one of the few arcs that really bothered me.

On this topic, I was surprised too when I learned that his dad just left him to fend himself from his mother when he seemed a kind man in his first appearance.
In the second fanbook, you know the one with mostly additional illustrations, it was stated that when he had to choose between staying with his mom or going with his dad he chose his mom because "he was worried for his mother's anxious personality" (that's entirely another kind of personality but this isn't the right post).
Of course unless court was involved (and that's another topic bc even this seems a bit sus) nothing stopped his dad from taking his son with him since the reason he was leaving was his abusive wife.
In conclusion, yes they both suck as parents and I hate how the arc was handled bc WTF, but maybe there was something that the author didn't include?
Also yes the reconciliation between Nagisa's parents at the graduation left me angry bc it didn't absolutely feel right.
Okay so tea on Nagisaâs parents
Terrible. Both of them.
Hiromi is worse, but really...the dad is almost on the same level as her. He really walked out and left Nagisa with her, knowing full well what she was like. He copped out and let his son deal with all that shit, so he didnât have to himself.
And you know...something I donât see talked about often is...Hiromi has been guilt-tripping Nagisa and abusing him for his gender for years. Itâs implied so... Was his dad okay with that? And suddenly, right before 3-E, he had enough of her...?
But he still wanted to keep his son with the woman who was literally abusing him for his gender...
Honestly, sometimes I think Nagisaâs dad is even worse. He was complacent with it for so long, before leaving Nagisa all alone to basically fend for himself.
Thatâs beyond shitty :/
Also, Iâve talked about this before how the redemptions for the parents in AssClass are half-assed bullshit.
Hiromi Shiota is probably the best parental storyline, although sheâs still absolutely terrible. Gakuhoâs is terrible and basically excuses him for everything, and Itonaâs dad...sucks and makes no sense.
Hiromiâs was a bit more developed than the other two, as well as...she seems like she has genuine psychotic issues. Not an excuse at all, doesnât justify it one bit. But compared to Gakuhou and Itonaâs dad who are just plainly shitty people...
Gakushuu and Itona forgiving their parents doesnât make sense to me. But Nagisa, the boy who believes in second chances and is just so kind...him forgiving his parents is believable to me.
Horrible...but in-character.
That doesnât mean the narrative shouldâve redeemed her, instantly portraying her as a mom trying her best...like what the fuck.
Also whatâs with both of them getting back together at the end, and deciding to âtry again?â Lmfao what? I feel like I donât even need to elaborate on why this...has no logic at all.
Like no, people can get back together from a divorce. But this family is so messed up...one parent is outright abusive, and the other says/does nothing about it.
What even brings them together??? Trying to get Nagisa back after mutually ruining everything for him?
Last bit of Tea: about Hiromi
A lot of fanfic writers twist around the type of abuse she has, making it more physical and screaming. Sheâs a god-awful person, very abusive...but itâs not that type. Sheâs more manipulative, steadily breaking Nagisa down over time rather than lashing out constantly with violence.
And the reason why some fanfic writers depict her like that...is just to create more angst so Nagisa gets saved by whoever heâs being shipped with in said fanfiction.
Which is awful, using his abuse as just a way to get the ship together...and Nagisa needs a stronger, (bad boy) to be there for him...he canât stand up for himself at all...etc.
