⚠️Major TMA Spoilers⚠️
(Also minor swearing if that bothers anyone)
I feel evil, but I had a thought—
I love the ending of the Magnus Archives, I’m a whore for queer tragedy, but what if Martin didn’t actually die?
Like, by some miracle, Georgie and Melanie find him alive in the rubble, and he barely survives.
His plan is ruined, he’s killed the love of his life and has to live the rest of his life with the consequence of that cold, dark, loneliness. And somehow, on top of everything he’s been through, this new loneliness is so much more painful than being trapped in the literal embodiment of isolation.
He knows that even if he were to die now, it would never be the same. He would have been the one to survive. That whatever happened to Jon, he would never get to know.
And if those who know what they’ve sacrificed flood to thank him for ending the hell of their world, he alone will have to stand and take the praise. Pit in his stomach with the knowledge that the true hero is lost.
Their world is saved, and his world was the price.
And the tragedy of it all would be his alone to bear.
I see a lot of media too about kids/young people making perfect decisions all the time and/or being so heavily criticized by the audience for wrong decisions.
Using the example of Mabel Pines, so, Gravity Falls spoilers—she’s 12. She is allowed to have made the biggest mistake in the franchise in trusting Bill. She is a child!
As someone who is also writing a story about teens and young people, I am heavily determined to make them do things that will make the audience mad. Things that are dumb or immoral or maybe upright mean. Cause they’re kids. Cause they don’t always know what they’re doing. Because—most importantly—they’re human.
Stop making characters perfect. Characters without flaws and error aren’t entertaining. Characters that are morally perfect aren’t relatable.
we are in a media literacy crisis

Am I wrong?
crazy that anyone thinks barbie is “anti-man” when it literally depicted the ways society also has a set of rules for men and how they feel empty having their worth be defined by their girlfriends, material goods, and their expression of masculinity — and how boys are victim to falling down an alt-right pipeline trying to get that value back. even when it’s all said and done and ken cries, and barbie tells him it’s okay, he’s embarrassed and says he shouldn’t be — but barbie talks him through how it’s important. where are all of the men’s mental health warriors now?? how is it anti-man when barbie acknowledged the emotional suppression men face at the hands of the patriarchy as well?
