Everyone Goes Feral in Hisui coming soon to a fanfiction archive near you! I would be working on it rn but my brain decided it was a drawing day not a writing day 😭
Feral in Hisui has six freaking languages in it which is absolutely buck wild to me. Like? Holy heck?
Kantonen- Spoken in Kanto, Johto, Hoen, Alola, and future Sinnoh. Currently spoken by the settlers as well as a couple clansmen who regularly interact with the settlers. (like Iridia, Adaman, and Arezu) Elesa learned the language when she came to Hisui (but she’s not quite sure how)
Celestic- Spoken by the clans as well as a few ginkgo merchants. Very few people from Jublife have bothered to learn but a couple (such as Laventon, Cylene, Zisu, and a few gate guards) are trying their best. Currently spoken by Elesa and Ingo (but they didn’t speak it before)
Galarian- Spoken in Unova, Galar, and Alola. (Alola has like three languages lol) In Hisui only Laventon, Elesa, Emmet, and Ingo speak it, but Rei (as well as Cylene to a lesser extent) have picked up a decent amount of it. (And I don’t think Ingo remembers that he speaks it)
Morse Code- Not a particularly popular “language” as its, well, a code- but there are a decent subset of people who use it to communicate with their pokemon. (Or to be big nerds) Ingo, Emmet and their Pokémon use this language, while Elesa and her Zebstrika “technically” do as well. (They learned it when the twins did- they just never bother to practice)
USL (Unovan sign language)- “Spoken” in Unova. Emmet was mostly nonverbal as a kid so all three of the Nimbasa trio know it. They still use it fairly regularly too so no one’s forgotten it! (Maybe not even Ingo)
Poké- Not quite a language, but instead an ability to listen and understand. Anyone who can “speak” Poké can understand any language out there.... but that doesn’t mean they can talk in any language. All Pokémon use this language, as well as Akari
Anyway, this isn’t required reading or anything, I just thought it was interesting. Obviously, all dialogue is written in the character’s speaking style regardless of language- but text ‘that looks like this’ means whoever’s talking is speaking in a different language then the POV character’s.
Chapter 8 (Favors and Forgiveness) of Everyone goes Feral in Hisui is out now!
Summary: Elesa talks with Adaman. Emmet escapes the swamp.
