Still finds it hard to look directly at him with all the damage he's sustained ( the sight of it sending another pang through his chest, wondering if he could fix it just as he had been able to when vanessa tried to incapacitate him that night ), so keeps his gaze down with hands curled against the metal casing.

His brows furrow in confusion — concern. He bites into his lower lip and shakes his head, the action just short of being frantic.

"You wouldn't let anything happen to me!"

Insisted upon, even now. Freddy has always been Gregory's protector. He refuses to believe he could get hurt under the animatronic's attention.

"I can't ——. I don't ——. Freddy .... I don't wanna leave you behind again."

"𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫." his voice is warning, though there is clear hesitation there. swears he can feel the pain of those words, physically. for once again he's displaying the softness of an unexplained paternal instinct. one that continues to flourish within the ruined bear animatronic. "it is far too dangerous for you to come back here!"

however, how is he supposed to tell gregory to let him go? it feels like agony. more-so than any physical damage could ever hope to cause.

★ — Gregory's hesitant ; obviously so, lingering back and eyeing her warily even as she begins to walk away. Weight shifts awkwardly between his feet before he begins to follow her, half - skipping to catch up but still being careful to maintain a noticeable distance between them. Just in case. There would be no way for her to lean over and grab him, take him by surprise — enough of a distance to give him time to react, should he need to.

"Snuck in. It was during the day."

Muttered response, kicking petulantly at the pavement as they walk. He's looking ahead, but his gaze continuously flickers to the side, towards Ollie.

"They don't really, uh ... check all the kids in a big birthday party. So it was, y'know. Pretty easy. And the place is so big that even if they do notice you, it's pretty easy to get away before they catch you."

Of course, if Ollie knew he was missing, she likely wouldn't bat an eye. Sure, he's a lot younger than she was when she ran away, but she still knows the feeling of needing to get away. Knows the fear that can come with the idea of getting caught, of possibly getting sent back. Even with the kid so young, she likely wouldn't turn him in. Would make sure he has some sort of thing going for him and wasn't just wandering blindly. At sixteen that hadn't been great, she definitely couldn't imagine doing that at his age. Of course she's curious and concerned, but she's not going to push.

For now, she will just give a smile as he agrees. "Sounds like a deal," she says, nodding a little. Stuffing her hands in the pockets of her jacket, she starts moving away from the door. "How'd you get in the last time?" Since he'd already made that part clear. She figures it's a decent starting point.

★ — Cartoonish tilt of the mascot's head only serves to further unnerve the boy, who takes a step backwards in response — it doesn't do much, there still isn't much distance between him and the rabbit ( still close enough that it would only take one sudden movement for Gregory to be grabbed ), but it rocks his weight backwards as if he's half - preparing to run. His brows are furrowed, frown tugging at the corner of his lips. What an obvious lie. It reminds him of the animatronics calling out for him ; your family is looking for you.

"You're lying. There's no one waiting for me."

Tone is clearly accusatory. ( even if he weren't already on edge, Gregory doesn't trust easily ). His fazerblast is still shoved into his back pocket, and he finds himself wondering if it would do anything against this figure. It didn't against Vanny, but it still might be worth a shot.

"What do you want?"

THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT. EVEN IGNORING THE RESPONSE, WILLIAM CAN SENSE THAT. Perhaps his initial instincts had been wrong: had drawn him over to the boy not believing he’d be the perfect victim but alerting him to some wider problem. Still, he’s come this far now. There’s no harm in trying to convince the kid — no harm at all.

His brow furrows at the boy’s flinch and at the reply, tilting that cartoonish golden head to one side while his dark eyes never leave Gregory’s face. For the kids that know this rendition of the rabbit, they’d maybe be endeared. For anyone else, it’s downright unsettling. “Don’t you know? There’s a secret party happening in the party rooms and your friends have invited you to play with them! With cake and chocolate and all sorts of fun; come on,” William coaxes, layering cheer into his voice he hasn’t felt in a very long time,, “you wouldn’t want to let your friends down, would you?”
