Re: Light and Sayu’s Relationship
It’s a popular fandom view that Light is a person who doesn’t care about his family and would have absolutely murdered Sayu in the second arc if it wasn’t self incriminating to do so. Personally, I think there’s a lot of evidence in the manga that goes against that view and this is an analysis I wrote on the relationship between the two Yagami siblings that I am re-posting here.
In my opinion, the most interesting conflict in Death Note is the silent one that takes place between Light and his own family members. The source of this largely internal conflict is obvious; Light is Kira, but the other Yagamis are sensible and they don’t acknowledge Kira as a legitimate enforcer of justice. As I said at the beginning of this post, the prevailing fanon opinion on Light is that he views his family as tools and merely plays to what’s expected of him as a son and an older brother.
But here’s the thing. what we actually see is Light repeatedly bending over backwards to try and protect his family and it is often to his own disadvantage rather than to his benefit. Why? Because he loves them. Plain and simple. It’s quite literally one of Light’s only redeeming traits and it’s a key part of what makes him a hopelessly tragic kid. In this post I’m specifically focusing on Light’s relationship to Sayu.

@ygami very kindly sent me a doc (which was referred to as a TED talk xD) about the concept of a genderbend Those and I loved reading it because it’s so well thought out. I could see this or something very like this as being the other feasible variation on Those as the alternative would be to gut the hell out of it (i.e. only genderbending L). This is posted with her permission, because you know how this blog is pretty much a Those storage box with occasional cute videos of cats and dogs. This is a great read if you’re interested in that alternative concept which just popped up out of nowhere.

was those!light's only sexual experience with men older politicians (pre-L, obviously) when did he start sleeping with people to get his way? (sorry, i'm just really curious and i love your fic)
Aw thank you.
Those!Light had girlfriends for show (so rather like canon!Light xD), but when he went into politics he decided to exploit whatever he could to his advantage after a few months and went from being a researcher to an aide. He’s someone who’d make decisions which would advance his career rather than (almost certainly) impede it because of the place being the way it is. He wouldn’t have chosen to get involved with them (or L) unless there was Lito!logic behind it.
I’ve quoted from this article about a 2014 investigation into the sex culture within Westminster because it condenses everything which I based that aspect of Those on. Surprise, surprise, nothing came from that investigation and I’m not even sure if Westminster acknowledged it. I’m only mentioning it because although Those is obviously fictionalised, satirised to hell, and horribly casual and ridiculous because of the POV, many of the things including the sex and drugs in it are based on real cases of abuse of power.
