Eris’ POV
Eris held back a yawn as he and Azriel waited for Rhysand to show up. He’d begged invited you to join them but you’d merely said you’d think about it before retiring to your room. Technically his room but he hadn’t gone back, instead going to tediously long meetings with his council members. He’d been up more than 14 hours, he had a right to be tired (and to a nap). Next to him, Azriel didnt seem remotely tired even though he’d been up at least two hours more than Eris.
Eris studied the shadowsinger out of the corner of his eye. He seemed relaxed, watching servants go in and out while carrying supplies for a toilet.
“Are you going to continue watching me creepily or be polite and look away?” The shadowsinger didnt even bother to look at Eris as he spoke.
She’s not yours
Eris sighed, looking away. “Do you love her?”
Now Azriel turned to look at him, face cold. “That’s none of your business, High Lord.”
“It is my business because you are in my court and probably stuck here for a long period of time.” Eris turned to face Azriel as well, face hard as he thought back on the shock of the morning.
Azriel opened his mouth, about to respond when a very angry Rhysand and Cassian stormed through the doors, sending the servants scurrying.
“What happened?”
Eris and Azriel looked at eachother and Eris smiled, shoving the spymaster forward to face his High Lord. Azriel shot him a dirty look over his shoulder and grimaced as he faced Rhys.
“Hello Rhys, how is your evening?”
Rhysand raised one eyebrow, “You’re not usually one to make small talk Azriel. What the Hell is going on?”
“I accidentally made a promise to stay in this room until me an Y/n worked our… problems aside.”
Rhys sighed, strolling forward and pulling Azriel into a brotherly embrace. He whispered into Azriel’s shoulder, “it’ll be fine Az but if she rejects you, let her go. She deserves her happiness as well and if it’s not with you than believe she will choose someone worthy.”
Eris smiled, suddenly glad Rhysand was good with words. He agreed wholeheartedly with the High Lord and really hoped Azriel would follow the advice.
Cassian eyed Eris before joining the group hug, wings wrapping around his brothers. Eris sighed, smile falling. How he wished he had a relationship as whole and strong as that. He had Lucien of course, but he was usually with Helion, learning how to be a High Lord.
Refocusing his attention on the Illyrian warriors he nodded in greeting to Rhysand and the Illyrian nodded back, albeit warily. Eris couldn’t even blame him for that, he had talked to Morrigan at his mother’s bidding and the two had understood eachother (mostly). But she hadn’t had courage to tell the Inner Court the true story of what happened on that day so until she told them, Eris was still a half enemy.
“Will you take care of my spymaster as long as the lovebirds need to… sort this out?”
Eris nodded, “Will you repay the expenses of building a triple sized bathtub for Azriel?” He smirked as Rhysand eyed the half finished bathtub that was barely 3 quarters of Azriel’s wings spread out.
The High Lord groaned, “yes I will.” But turning to Azriel he mumbled, “that’s coming straight out of your salary.”
Cassian laughed, clapping Azriel on the back. “I finally get payed more then you, brother.”
Azriel mutters something Eris couldn’t hear and the Illyrian’s say their farewells. Azriel watches them go for a while and Eris turns to see how the construction of the giant bathtub is going, still wishing for the impossible (improbable).
She’s not yours.
“You were nice today.” Azriel’s words sound more like a question which honestly offends Eris slightly.
“What do you mean? I’m always nice!”
The spymaster just rolls his eyes and goes to sit against the wall, wings spread out. Eris sighs joining him. “I wasn’t nice, I was civil. But it’s not for anything other than her.”
Azriel visibly tenses, “she’s my mate Eris not yours. The mother paired her with me.”
This time Eris rolls his eyes, “of course, of course. I won’t make a move until she rejects you, after all you are the one who chose Elain over her.”
“Shut it. Why can’t you be civil with me? Why must you be so…uncivil?”
Eris snorts at the choice of words, laughing as the shadowsinger glowers at him. “I cant be civil with you because you’re her mate. Not me. I swear sometimes I can practically feel the Mothers hatred.”
Azriel shook his head his words.
They sat like that for a while before Eris made up some lame excuse to leave which Azriel scoffed at.
Smiling to himself, Eris shifted, starting to stand when he heard a noise that immediately made him hard glance back at the spymaster.
The spymasters head was tipped back in ecstasy and Eris realised that his untamed, slightly curly hair was brushing against the tip of Azriel’s wing. Eris started to pull away but hesitated as Azriel didn’t make to move. He unabashedly took in the spymasters handsome face.
As Eris watched, Azriel slowly opened his eyes to look at his wing where the two touched. Eris froze. Maybe he should have pulled away, what if Azriel got defensive about his wings? Stiffening slightly Eris took a step back and tensely glanced around. All the servants were gone and the remaining fourth of the bathtub had been finished. How long had they been here?
Turning back to Azriel he spoke, “I-”
Their eyes met and something reached out from Eris’s chest, near his heart. Eris blinked, tugging on the invisible string that ended with a certain shadowsinger.
Azriel responded in kind, tugging on the bond as the two males gawked at eachother. They couldn’t be mates, Azriel was already paired with you.
Silence and then Eris practically sprinted out the front door, head spinning from the encounter.
They weren’t mates. They couldn’t be. No. No. This is just some shitty dream that his brain made up.
but… if he was Azriel’s mate and Azriel was your mate. Didn’t that mean you were also his mate?
no.
She might be yours.
Impossible. Right?

Chapter 7
Chapter 8
Alyra felt warmth, just like she had when she was in the cauldron. She remembered the words it spoke to her ‘You will have a second chance to live the life fated for you, use it wisely.’ She woke to the warmth still on her skin, this warmth was from the early morning sun. She sighed and said to herself, “The cauldron gave you this second chance, it was right, you do need to use it wisely. Midnight flights around a beautiful city does not seem like a wise choice. Training to protect myself however, a much better choice.’
A that she threw the covers back and jumped out of bed, racing into the bathing room to wash quickly and get ready. The three little shadows that had followed her back to her room to make sure she was okay last night disagreed with her thoughts. But then thought, ‘Not ready, needs time,’ then they slipped out under the door.
When she came out to find clothes she thought would be appropriate for training she saw a small pile of black on her dresser. There was a note on top of them in familiar handwriting.
‘I thought you should be dressed appropriately for your first training session. They’re Illyrian leathers.’
Alyra noticed her pen was on the dresser so she replied instantly, ‘Thank you Rhysie.’
She put them on as she thought they went then put on some practical socks and what she thought were black combat boots she found in her armoire. She just tidied last night’s braid with the reasoning that it was probably better to have her hair tied up to train. There wasn’t a clock in the room but she was used to the suns movements and used it as time before. As she looked through the window she determined it wasn’t too long after dawn. She wasn’t going to wait around, she would just go up and wait.
Alyra didn’t have to wait though Cassian was already there. “Ah there she is my new favourite Archeron sister!”
“Sorry, am I late?”
“Not at all your half an hour early”
“Well, could we just start early? I really don’t want to go back downstairs and have to find something to do…”
“That’s the attitude I’m looking for! Can I say, I am surprised though.”
“Surprised about what?” She asked.
“I mean I guess it’s cause you’re one of the sisters, and Rhys has a soft spot for you, but usually females who have been through the sort of shit you have live downstairs, in the library, with the priestesses.”
“Huh? Rhys took me past the library, he didn’t say there were priestesses living in there.”
“Oh, that’s just the house library, there is a huge one under the whole house. Only certain people with Rhys’ clearance can go in there so the priestess have their privacy and feel safe, cause you know they’ve been violated in some way. It’s kind of like a refuge or haven for them.”
“But I’m not a priestess. While I appreciate the concern and I can see where it’s coming from since when you first met me I was a shadow of a person. I wouldn’t want that now, the cauldron gave me a second chance at life and I want to experience everything, I don’t want to waste it. So, shall we start training then,” she eyed off the weapons as she explained her thoughts on the matter.
“Well said let’s start, get your eyes off those weapons, we start with the basics. First though I want to see what you can already do because I know you could control your breathing and you had patience, I’m also guessing you already had some muscle strength from your work. But whether that stayed after the cauldron… there’s also the fact that the strength you used in your work is different from the one we use in battle… and you were laying around in bed for almost three months so that’s not going to work in your favour.”
“Right so I might have some skill or I might not… Can I point out that if we spend the whole hour with you talking at me we won’t know either way.”
“Shit Allie, I thought you were only sassy with Rhys. Fine then, we’ll start with balance.”
Before he could show her what he meant she ran over to the wall, climbed up the way she did the night before and then this time stood on it and started walking along it. “Allie! What the actual fuck?!”
“What? You said balance and this seems as best place as any to practice balancing,” she had got to the end then spun round without so much as a wobble and started walking back. “When I had the strength to go and hide, have a break from it all, even though I knew the punishment after would likely be worse, some of the best places I found to hide were up high,” She added.
“Okay you’ve made your point, you can definitely balance, seem to have a good awareness of your body and be able to reasonably control your movements. Climb down here and let me see how your reactions are.” She leapt down just like she did the night before and he shook his head. “Okay so I know you don’t know me well but I am going to attempt to attack you, I just want to see how you defend yourself and where your strength is. Are you okay with that?”
She knew Rhys wouldn’t let her train with these fae if she was going to be in danger and she reminded herself not to freeze, no more freezing and just accepting it anymore. She nodded, ‘I’m ready.”
Cassian went for the obvious first, he went to grab her arm and she jumped back just out of his reach. She did underestimate that unlike the guards even though he was huge he was quick. He was coming toward her in an instant, she didn’t think she could jump or dodge quick enough that he wouldn’t anticipate it, so she did the only thing she could think of to distract him and give herself a chance. ‘Disappear!’ she said to herself. As she became invisible she ran halfway across the training ring.
“Allie! What just happened? Shit, where did you go? Mother, Rhys is going to kill me.” He was frantically looking around for her.
She couldn’t believe she did it, that it had come back so quickly. She felt sorry for him so she focused on being seen and as she did she called out to him, “What are you talking about Cass, I’m just here. I don’t want Rhys killing you, you’re sweet.”
“Sweet?! Of all the things to call me, please don’t tell your sister that… Now how did you get over there?” He said, still bewildered and heading her way.
She shrugged and smirked slightly at him, “I ran.”
“Very funny,” He smiled as he rolled his eyes at her. How did you run over there without me seeing you?”
Alyra started walking towards him too and explained as she did, “I can change my appearance, I can become invisible. It was something I could do before when I was only half fae. I could also travel places just by thinking about being there. One minute I’d be about to be punished for something, the next I’d be outside the palace gates. I tried to do that too but I don’t seem to have that power back.”
“It sounds like winnowing, Rhys and Mor can do it, all High Fae actually. Oh, and Az, but I that’s not quite the same, something to do with his shadows…” For a moment he thought he saw her breath hitch slightly at the mention of his brother and the shadows. “There is warding on this house though, can’t winnow in or out. Is that why you had those things on your wrists before?” She absent-mindedly rubbed her wrists and then nodded. “Fucking human bastards! We should tell Rhys, he can help you with the winnowing.” Cassian looked strangely and Alyra realised he must be talking to Rhys in his mind, the he burst out laughing. “Seems I interrupted him, he’ll talk to you when he drops Feyre in fifteen minutes. Let’s stretch and work on breathing to end.” They went over to the mats and Cassian showed her proper stretching, he noted she was good at the breathing, sometimes that was all she could do in the past, to get through the day.
Now though, when Cassian told her to breathe all she could hear was that deep quiet voice from the night before, she felt those strong arms around her and she was back in the sky with him and the shadows.
Alyra was still stretching and daydreaming and she didn’t hear Rhys and Feyre arrive. “Well Little Fae, is there something you want to tell me…” She could tell Rhys was trying to be all commanding, as he stood over her on the mat. She jumped up quickly and that was when Feyre and Cassian who had been engaged in friendly banter at the weapons rack looked over.
“Umm, maybe I could just show you.” Just as before she disappeared, moved slightly and reappeared.
“That is a very useful power to have and you’ve always had it?” He asked
“Yes, for as long as I could remember, I can also do something Cass thinks is ‘winnowing’? But I can’t show you he said there’s wards…” She made a gesture with her arm to indicate the whole area.
“That’s true, so you better come with me and show me. I don’t have much time I have to go to a meeting but I can fit in a quick winnowing assessment and training session with you.” He held out his arm and wrapped it around her waist, “Hold on to my shoulders Little Fae and don’t be scared.”
Alyra was the opposite of scared. She knew it wouldn’t be the same as last night, no she wasn’t going to think about that anyway. This would be different, but still flying. A huge beaming smile couldn’t help but take over her face. “I’m not scared, I love flying!”
He looked down at her and eyed her suspiciously, “What do you mean you love flying, Little Fae?”
“Oh, I meant I just knew I’d love flying, and I do.”
Rhys made a mental note to ask his brothers which one had taken her flying. Yes, he was busy with court meetings, the war and of course having his mate back, but he really wanted to be the one to fly Alyra first. The look of joy on her face was priceless, a stark contrast to the first day he met her. This is all he wanted for her.
They landed on a rooftop of a house in the city, “Welcome to the Town House, Little Fae. This is where Feyre and I live.”
She surveyed the classically designed but sparse roof, just a small rooftop garden decorated with a few boxed shrubs and a round, iron table with two chairs. “Very original name, are you sure you live here? It seems a bit basic, can’t possibly have the ultra-classy and pampered High Lord in something as normal as a ‘town house’.”
“That’s enough cheek, try to use your power,” He said crossing his arms and smirking.
She made a curtsy motion, “Yes your Highness.” Then she was gone, a second later she was on the other side of the roof next to one of the boxed shrubs.
“Again,” he said with a slight smirk trying not to look too impressed too soon.
So again, she winnowed, again and again, all over the roof, at one point just to get a reaction out of him she winnowed onto the iron table. “Please refrain from standing on my furniture Little Fae.”
When he asked for one last one she went from the door that was obviously to the main house to right behind him. She thought she’d take it a little further and became invisible, she tapped him on the shoulder. Then as he whirled around she winnowed behind him and tapped him again, this time though she stayed and when he turned and couldn’t see her she became visible again.
“I was going to get Amren to work on your invisibility power with you but you seem to be fine with that too. You have picked them up again quickly, just like an Illyrian flying after having injured wings, second nature.” She nodded, proud of herself, he didn’t need to ask her to know that, that was the reason the humans put those horrific things in her wrists. At least they can thank the cauldron for getting rid of those. “Sorry Little Fae, I have to go. If you want you can explore the house, get something to eat from the kitchen. I’ll get Cassian to come down and get you when he’s finished training with Feyre.”
“Wait! Are you sure I can’t come to the Nightmare place with you all, the Hewn City?”
She looked at him with such expectant and eager eyes, and he sighed, hating to disappoint her but, with her eyes looking like that, Amren had a point.
Alyra could see he was going to try and let her down gently again, but she was prepared this time. “What if I was there but not there… what if I was…”
“Invisible!” They said at the same time.
“That might work, I support that Little Fae. You prove it can work to Amren and we have a deal,” he said and gently ruffled her hair before he winnowed away.
He missed the little squeal and jump she did out of involuntary excitement, the few shadows that had been watching her all morning didn’t.
Alyra was in her element, with free rein to explore and be curious. She wandered down the stairs, past an attic room, then a landing which looked like it led to four bedrooms. She did draw the line at bedrooms, she had been in enough over the years and things that could be seen or that naturally happens in bedrooms is something she had seen and experienced too much of in the palaces. The next landing had chandeliers of swirled, coloured glass above her, also on this level a few more doors that looked like they led to more bedrooms. ‘How many people live here?!’ She wondered.
Down the wide oak staircase to what was clearly the ground floor, on one side a sitting room, with built in bookshelves that caught her eye, and another a dining room with a massive Cherrywood table. As the front door was clearly before her she deduced that the kitchen was behind her, that’s where they usually were. She didn’t realise until she thought about the kitchen but she was hungry. When she entered it, she saw a plate of fruit and pastries on the pristine white marble counter, along with a pot of what she inferred was some sort of tea.
She ate one of the smaller pastries that didn’t look like any from the ones that they had at the palaces, ones she had eaten under duress too many times to count. Rhys wasn’t to know pastries were possibly triggering for her. She had resolved to make the most of her second chance and that meant being brave and facing her fears even if they were pastries. It was so different from anything the stupid humans could have dreamed up, sweet but not too sweet because of the spices, so many she wouldn’t even know all the names of.
Just as she reached for the teapot two identical fae came into the room. “Oh hi! I’m Alyra, I was training with Rhys upstairs and he said that I could look around and eat something. Sorry, I didn’t know any of his other friends were here.”
They smiled at each other and one of them busied herself with getting ingredients out of the pantry. The other turned to Alyra and said so quietly, “We knew you were coming Lady Alyra. We work for the High Lord, he informed us of your presence in the house. I am Nuala and my sister is Cerridwen, would you like some tea?”
“Oh yes, please. I don’t think I will ever get used to being called ‘Lady’, it hasn’t been long since I was working in a position like you.” She took the cup and added honey and a dash of milk, something she found she liked when she was at the manor. Before that she couldn’t remember when she had had a hot cup of tea, it quickly became one of her favourite simple things.
They just nodded to her and went back to their work. Alyra wasn’t going to risk it again with the pastries, as lovely as that one was. So, she quietly ate a handful of strawberries, blackberries and raspberries and finished her tea. Then went back to the sitting room to look at the books while she waited for Cassian.
She was looking at all the books and had just found one that looked interesting and would help her learn all about where she came from, A History of Prythian.
“So, have you decided what kind of books you like?” That was definitely not Cassian. Azriel was looking up at her, with an amused look, shadows buzzing around him again.
“What?” How did he know that she wasn’t sure what genre she liked, did she tell Rhys and he tell his family?
She shook it off, “I was just looking while I waited. I am interested in the history ones, just for curiosity sake, I want to learn everything I can about where part of me comes from. In terms of reading for leisure I think I still need to sample a wide range of genres to truly decide. Do you like to read?” She nimbly jumped down from the ladder to await his response.
Azriel was again surprised at how she wasn’t phased by his presence and the ease with which she talked with him, so many were quiet and afraid. “You will find the same history books and more up at the house, in the library, I can show you. I do read, when I have the time, I could lend you one if you like?”
“That would be great, thank you! I know Nesta means well but if I left it up to her I would be reading romance novels, which are fine I suppose.” Suddenly she clamps her hand over her mouth, with eyes wide. She removes it to speak, “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry!”
He looked confused and a little concerned, “What for?”
“Well firstly for running off last night, that was rude and I don’t even know why I did it. I guess I’m just not used to people being nice to me. Secondly, I really didn’t mean to but I may have got you in trouble with Rhys. When he flew me down here I said, ‘I love flying’, clearly implying I already knew what it was like. I tried to cover it but I’m pretty sure it was too late…” Her rambling trailed off and she looked at the floor and a few shadows came over and caressed her forearms to comfort her. One even went under her chin as if to lift it back up again so she could look at him.
He laughed, “Rhys was most likely jealous, he probably wanted to fly you first, as you’ve observed he can be a bit entitled, being High Lord and all.”
Then his shadows were interrupting him. Tell her, tell her last night was special.
‘Shut up’ “I should be the one apologising to you for last night, I guess since I’ve been here so long I can forget how awe-inspiring seeing Velaris for the first time can be.”
Next time tell her truth, now tell her she looks good in leathers, can see all the…
‘I told you before don’t objectify her like that!’
Alyra’s brow had furrowed slightly again just like the night before and she was assessing the shadows on his shoulder, “Are they talking to you, about me? I can hear them buzzing again, what are they saying?”
“Nothing of any use.” He gave them a side long glance and shook them off his shoulders. “I notice Rhys got you the proper training attire. How was training by the way?”
“It was… well I don’t think I learnt much. Cassian is very funny, especially when I tried out one of my old powers, his face was priceless.” She was giggling then and Azriel thought he had never heard a sound sweeter, it was like music.
“Would that happen to be that you can become invisible?” He gave her a knowing look.
“Oh, did Rhys already tell you with his mind power?” She wondered why she suddenly felt a little disappointed that she couldn’t show him herself.
“No, before you ran off last night, you disappeared, I thought you knew, I thought that’s why you ran off actually.”
“Well, I guess that was one way to show you. It was fun messing with Cassian using it and it together with winnowing with Rhys.” She smirked at the memory.
It was then that Azriel realised what a contradiction this new female was. Sweet, kind innocence (of the fae world), witty intelligence and a bit of a bratty streak, all of it covering up years of trauma and abuse. What would happen if she was severely triggered and her bright demeanor broke…
Master can take care of her, he can wrap her in his arms, we can wrap around her too, bring her comfort.
‘No, the last person she would need helping her would be me.’
She didn’t notice his exchange with the shadows and she continued on excitedly. “Rhys even said I can go to the Hewn City!”
At that he looked seriously concerned, “What?!”
She just beamed at him, “I just have to get Amren’s approval. I actually thought Cassian was going to come get me to take me back up.”
“I was free so Rhys sent me,” She saw his eyes glaze over and then he spoke again, “We need to leave early, apparently listening to my brother and your sister’s bickering is giving my High Lady a headache.”
She laughed at that, “Isn’t it just their way of flirting? Just because I was hated at the palaces doesn’t mean I was blind, I saw all sorts of courting and lovers. I think you’re all mistaking my honest excitement about all things fae for naivety.”
Quite right Lady Alyra, let me escort you outside so I can fly you back to the house.” He held out his arm to her and she smiled and shook her head as she took it.
When he flew her back to the house he held her the way Rhys had done.
This time he could see the look of utter enjoyment on her face.
He dropped her at the balcony outside the dining room this time. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that,” she said trying to hide the blush that was creeping onto her cheeks.
She likes flying with the shadowsinger best, see.
“They’re buzzing again, I wish I could hear what they are saying.” She noted.
“I have to disagree with you on that, like I said they mostly talk nonsense. I have to get Amren before I pick up Feyre for her flying lesson.” He smiled then flew off again.
“Thanks,” She said to herself.
She was waiting in the dining room when Amren walked in.
“Well, girl. I see Azriel was right and I have to go and get your sister. You better be ready to work when I get back. Rhysand has told me you have one of your powers to show me.”
Within moments Amren was back, with a livid looking Nesta. “I cannot believe those overgrown bats were just flying you around, are you okay Alyra?”
“I’m fine, I like flying,” Alyra smiled.
“Lovely, are you done? We are here to work.” Amrens annoyance really did rival Nesta. She pointed at Alyra, “Get on with it, girl and stay that way until the Morrigan arrives, not a sound either.”
“Nesta hasn’t seen… I don’t want you to get startled Nesta.” Alyra said looking at her half-sister.
“Well she will get a nice surprise then won’t she. If you want to use that power to come to Hewn City tomorrow night then you need to prove it to me now.” Amren stared daggers at her and Alyra quickly nodded and disappeared.
“Where did she? Alyra are you okay?” There was no answer as Alyra was taking the task seriously. Nesta whirled on Amren, “What did you do to her?!”
“Nothing, it is one of the powers she had before the humans put those things in her and stopped her magic from working. Rhysand was right, she can become invisible.” Amren was reserving judgement for now but in mid-afternoon when Morrigan came to the house searching for Alyra, Amren finally gave a look of being slightly impressed.
“Ok girl, you have proven yourself, I will tell Rhysand you can go.” Then she dismissed her with the wave of her hand.
Alyra found Mor in her room. “Umm hi?”
“There you are! I didn’t have a chance to tell you last night but yellow is not your colour. You have more of a cool colours complexion, you know, blues, greens, purples.” She actually looked at Alyra and saw she was wearing leathers, “Black looks good on you too it seems…”
Alyra looked at the clothes she was putting away and they were all so fine and glamorous, she wasn’t sure it was real. “What happened to all the other clothes?”
“Oh, I either swapped them for the right colours or styles that will show off those gorgeous curves you have!” Mor ran an appreciative glance up and down Alyra’s body and it made her feel very seen.
“Thank you. It was really nice of you to do this.” Alyra smiled even though sometimes Mor reminded her a lot of the golden queen.
“Trust me you will not only feel amazing in these new outfits; the males will also appreciate it.” She saw a look of shock on Alyra’s face and added, “When you’re ready for them to, of course. Now I need to take my new dresses back to the townhouse to figure out which is the most scandalous for tomorrow night.” She winked at Alyra and gently patted her on the shoulder as she breezed out of Alyra’s room as quickly as she came.
Alyra still wondered if this was all real as she got cleaned up in the bathing room and then changed into a pair of black leggings and the softest teal sweater and matching slippers. She found her way into the library and immediately found that history book she was looking at in the town house. She devoured every piece of information until Nesta informed her she was going to eat.
They ate a few sandwiches in the sitting room Nesta and Elain shared. Elain didn’t eat but she did join them, sitting there staring blankly as Nesta gently and carefully wrapped her hair and Alyra read her a book called Flowers And Their Languages. She could have sworn they saw tiny slivers of life in Elain’s eyes when tulips were mentioned.
Later when Alyra went to her room she noticed a shadow wrapped around something outside her door. As she got closer she bent down, the shadow wound its way around her arm as Alyra reached for the book, The Blade In The Air. Before wiping away the shadow noted how she clutched the book close and smiled as she entered her room.

What if yn(Azriel's mate) decided with the girls to do the 'same shirt prank on boyfriend' on their mates!!!!
My brother.
Summary: Y/n and her friends decide to do a little harmless prank on their mates.
A/n: thank you for this ask anon, I love it soo much. Its too cute 🥹❣️
•○🌑○•
Y/n hummed a little tune she had heard playing last night along the Sidra as she waited for her mate to be done showering.
She was sprawled across the huge bed, trying not to show any signs of anticipation for the dinner date with her family.
The previous day, Y/n, Nesta and Feyre had a girls day, where they did nothing but go shopping around Velaris and eat at their favourite restaurants, gossiping.
They were in a clothing store, looking at shirts for their husbands so they could steal it later when Nesta suddenly turned to them, a huge evil smirk on her face.
Y/n knew nothing good came after that smirk, but when Nesta whispered her plan to them in hushed tones, Y/n thought it was the best thing she had ever heard in her whole five hundred years of existence.
So here she was, waiting for her mate to come out of the bath, the shirt she had bought displayed next to her.
She was about to stomp in there and ask her husband what was taking him so long when he stepped out. Finally.
A towel hung dangerously low on his hips as water ran down the divots and indentations on his chiselled body, disappearing into the towel.
"Oh thank the cauldron. I thought I'd age a century before you decided to grace me with your presence." She mumbled, eyeing him.
Azriel chuckled, walking towards the closet. "It wasn't that long–"
"Yes it was. Whatever." She panicked when she saw him starting to rummage in the closet for a shirt. "Hey Az! I bought a shirt for you yesterday. Look."
Her mate glanced at her, his eyebrows nearly dissapearing in his hair as he took in the shirt she held up.
It was... colourful. And ridiculous, if she was to say. Totally not something the dark and scary spymaster would wear. But it had been Feyre's idea to make the men wear something that they wouldn't normally wear, and Nesta had settled on the one filled with flowers and butterflies and what not. There were so many things it was hard to decipher what the patterns were.
It would probably give her husband a headache.
"Are you sure you got that for me?" He asked, walking towards her and picking up the shirt.
"Yes." She climbed off the bed and gave him the look that always had him agreeing to whatever she said. "Wear this today. Please."
He sighed. And she knew he wouldn't say no. So she grinned and kissed his cheek, throwing her arms around his neck. "I love you!"
"I love you too. But–" He put up a finger. "I will only wear this for today. Understand?"
She nodded happily. He sighed and stared at the cloth in his hands helplessly. He nodded, as if convincing himself before getting ready.

Azriel was almost fully covered by his shadows, making him near impossible to spot in the darkness as the two of them walked to the spot the inner circle had picked for the night.
Y/n grinned, bumping into her husband's shoulder, who sighed, probably for the hundredth time that day.
They had reached the restaurant, and were just searching for the booth where the inner circle was gathered when Y/n found Nesta, grinning at her from a seat in the back.
Y/n suppressed her smile as she pointed the place out to Azriel. He nodded, walking towards it. When they were close enough to see everyone, Azriel smiled before he came to a complete standstill. Even his shadows were frozen.
All of the inner circle was present, except Cassian.
Y/n raised her brows at Nesta, who inclined her head towards the wash rooms a little distance away. As soon as Y/n turned to look, Cassian stepped out, completely oblivious to the scene going on in the booth, muttering something to himself as he pulled at the shirt he was wearing. When he lifted his eyes, his jaw dropped.
He stared at Azriel, then to the High Lord who was frozen midsentence. Azriel glanced at the General, then back to Rhysand.
Then he finally turned to his mate, his eyes accusatory.
Before he could say anything though, Cassian burst into laughter, throwing an arm around Azriel's neck and dragging him the rest of the way. Rhys just smiled, shaking his head.
"How did you not see each other before?"
"I sent Cassian to the washroom saying that he had worn the shirt the wrong way. He obliged. That's when Feyre and Rhys arrived." Nesta informed Y/n.
"We wanted them to react at the same time, so I told Nesta when we were near." Feyre laughed.
"I hate you all." Azriel grumbled. Y/n laughed at her mate, his brooding expression like that of a child who was denied a new toy.
"Oh come on Az. I say we should do this more often. Maybe we should match everyday with shirts like these." Cassian mused, wiggling his brows.
Azriel looked horrified while Rhys just shook his head, grinning.
"That could be a great idea." Rhys said, glancing at Azriel with a mischievous smile.
"Not you too." Az groaned, his head thrown back. The other illyrians and the rest of the inner circle laughed at his plight.

The Illyrians were drunk. So. Damn. Drunk.
Atleast, Cassian and Rhys were. Azriel had drank the liquor too but not as much as his brothers. Or maybe he just had high alcohol tolerance.
And Y/n couldn't hold in her laughter. Neither could Nesta and Feyre.
A few paces ahead were their mates, drawing the stares of strangers and a few smiles.
Azriel walked beside his two brothers, shaking his head half the time, face-palming the other, pretending to not know the men he was matching outfits with.
And Rhys and Cassian?
Oh, those males had their arms around each other, loudly singing a bawdy song they had heard some time ago in a tavern about some Big titty Liddy, stumbling through Velaris.
The group was supposed to be at home. But they had decided to take the 'scenic route', according to Cassian and Rhys.
So here they were, following the two of them through Velaris as they made their way through bewildered crowds, occasionally bellowing a hi, hello or hello how are you doing to random strangers.
Azriel kept glancing back to the females who wouldn't stop giggling with accusing eyes, before going back to stopping his brothers from bumping into strangers.
As they neared the River house, Cassian and Rhysand suddenly pulled apart, gasping and sputtering.
"You and I are wearing the same shirt!" Rhys screeched, pointing a finger at Cassian's chest
"WE ARE!" Cassian swung his head to a tired Azriel, pointing. "HE IS ALSO WEARING THE SAME SHIRT! OH MOTHER!"
"Can you two stop? People are staring." Azriel muttered, trying to usher the two Illyrians inside the house, to no avail.
"Is it because we are brothers?" Rhys questioned, ignoring Azriel's desperate attempts.
"OH! YES! IT'S BECAUSE WE ARE BROTHERS!" Cassian slurred, taking to his knees as a tear escaped his eyes.
"Oh my brother! Where have you been all these years!? I looked for you everywhere!" Rhys fell to his knees beside Cassian, pulling him in for a hug.
Azriel sighed heavily, turning to the females for help. He looked so desperate, Y/n couldn't help but pity him.
Then, in the span of a blink, the two men were up, throwing punches at each other.
Feyre and Nesta finally stepped in and pulled the two apart.
"Don't fight! Aren't you brothers?" Feyre said, speaking slowly and gently as if she was speaking to a petulant child.
"We are, but he copied me! I wore it first and he copied me!" Rhys whined, burying his face in his mate's neck. Feyre nodded empathetically.
"No! He copied me!" Cassian complained to Nesta, who just laughed at the whining.
"If you have satisfied your sadistic wishes, can we go home?" Azriel glared at Y/n, who grinned sheepishly.
She turned to her friends, waving. "Take care of your children. I'll take mine home."
"You are lucky." Nesta sighed as she looked at her mate, who now clung to her dress.
Y/n laughed. Cassian started crying about how Nesta didn't love him anymore when Azriel winnowed his mate away.
As soon as they were in the confines of their home, Azriel practically ripped the shirt off of him. Groaning, he ran his hands through his hair.
Y/n wrapped her arms around him, feeling guilty that he was forced to do this. But she didn't regret it. She would never regret it.
"Don't talk to me." Azriel grumbled, trying to free himself from her clutches.
She pressed in closer. "I'm sorry, my love. But c'mon, that was fun."
"Do you know how stressed I was? I swear, at one point I was ready to throw myself into the Sidra and join the rocks at the bottom just to get away from them. I can't belive I call them my brothers."
Y/n laughed, walking around him and rising to her tiptoes to kiss her mate.
"How can I make it up to you?"
His eyes glittered as he raked his gaze over her figure.
"I can think of a few ideas." He said, leaning in close.
"No Azzie. You stink right now."
He frowned, and he looked so adorable it took all of Y/n's willpower not to tackle him into a kiss.
"But we can talk about those ideas in the morning... right now we can cuddle?"
His face lit up and he nodded happily, picking her up and walking up into the bedroom.
It would be safe to say they weren't patient enough to wait to talk about those ideas in the morning
She wasn't patient enough.

Waiting On A Miracle
During the day in Velaris, it was not uncommon for you to find Rhysand, CEO of the renowned Nightstar Corporation, and your boss, pacing around his room in a nervous walk. He often found himself facing a problem that seemed almost insufferable. Despite his wealth, success, and influence, Rhysand's heart yearned for one thing that had eluded him for far too long – true love. He believed that having a powerful and talented woman by his side could raise his spirits and complete his life, filling the void he usually felt in his heart.
He carefully crafted the life he wanted to have, made plans for his future, and ignored the past. It wouldn't be different for the moment he would have to choose a wife. You knew that, always have. And yet, in the darkest moments of the night, you imagined yourself as his choice. You had the knowledge it would never be you. What could you even offer? Coming from a powerful family you were the only one without a drop of magic in your blood. You could winnow and that's all, it ended right there. Everything you lacked in magic you worked hard to compensate for in brains. You were at the top of your class, numerous prizes filled your house and you worked for the best. But in the end, you would never be enough for anyone but yourself.
Rhysand turned to you in one of his days of pacing around and thinking about his future. It was actually a routine to wait for him to finally sit down, you would offer any candy in your drawer and he would smile. Sometimes he would praise you and even send a kiss, memories of your bubbly past with him would fill your heart and both of you would go back to work. Now you worked closely with him in the upper echelons of Nightstar, but in the past, you had shared moments of intimacy, a colorful and passionate friendship during college and the years before his rise. This relationship, even if it had left an undeniable mark on both of you, had turned into a mere spark that often burned a little brighter with every interaction.
But now, Rhysand found himself feeling distracted and consumed by thoughts of his future marriage. It was difficult for him to concentrate on anything else, and he realized that he had to choose soon or else he would become a madman. Taking a deep breath, he picked up his phone and called you while you were in your office, requesting you to come to his room for an important discussion.
As you entered his office, you couldn't help but feel a mixture of nervousness and hope. You and he had been through so much together, and lately, things seemed different between you. Maybe, just maybe, he was finally going to confess his true feelings for you. You were waiting for a miracle.
-What did you want to talk about, Rhysand? - You asked, trying to keep your emotions in check - Is it so important for you to make me get up and travel to the other side of the corridor? - Rhysand looked at her with a mix of hesitation and determination.
-I wanted to talk to you about something important. I've been doing a lot of thinking as you saw, and I've come to a decision.
-Yes, what is it? - Your heart skipped a beat, and you leaned in slightly, your hope rising. It was stupid but you still thought. Maybe…
-I've decided to try a relationship with someone - He said, choosing his words carefully.
-Oh, really? That's great news, maybe the cabinet will finally stop bothering you with that - You were trying to sound nonchalant while your heart raced with anticipation.
-Yes, her name is Feyre - Rhysand said, watching your reaction carefully.
Of course, his choice was none other than Feyre, a remarkable and gifted individual, possessing an extraordinary talent that set her apart from others. Being such a powerful female and still making time to search for what she truly loves was definitely a courageous thing to do. You couldn't deny the appeal. The hope in your heart dimmed instantly, replaced by a mixture of disappointment and sadness.
-Feyre? That's... that's wonderful - You said, trying to mask her feelings. Rhysand noticed the change in your demeanor, and a pang of guilt washed over him. He knew he was hurting you, and he wished he could find the right words to make things better.
-I thought you'd be happy for me - He said gently, trying to explain himself - I've been trying to get over this step of my life for a long time - You managed a weak smile, though your heart felt heavy.
-Of course, I am. Feyre is wonderful, and you deserve to be happy - Rhysand sighed, feeling the weight of his decision.
-The thing is, I don't really know her. We talked once at a party and it was quite good. But I don't know her - Your brows furrowed at his declaration - I know what you're thinking, but I'm sure I'll get to marry her in the end. It's not that hard to fall in love with me - He tried to joke, but you weren't in the mood for it, both his decision and the situation being too much for you. He sighed and dropped his posture on the chair - Look, I care about you, and I value our friendship and our work together. I hope you understand that this doesn't change anything between us.
-Of course, I understand. What we had during college was just… distraction. I'm glad you found someone that can fit in your necessities - But inside, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy and sadness. You had hoped that maybe, just maybe, you were the one he had chosen. Maybe all those times he was thinking about you. Nothing less than a miracle could take you out of the place your lack of magic put you on.
As you left his office, Rhysand felt a mix of relief and regret. He had been honest with you, but he couldn't shake the guilt he felt for the pain he caused. He knew he had to give his relationship with Feyre a chance, but a part of him couldn't help but wonder what might have been with you.
In the days that followed, he tried to be there for you as a friend, hoping to mend any rift that had formed between your relationship. He wanted to preserve the connection you had, even if it couldn't be what none of you had hoped for. And as he embarked on his new pursuit with Feyre, Rhysand couldn't help but wonder if he had made the right choice. There was a part of him that still felt drawn to you, a lingering feeling that maybe, in another time and place, things could have been different.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the city skyline with hues of orange and pink as Rhysand sat in his office, deep in thought. He had been racking his brain all day, trying to plan the perfect first date for Feyre, something that would sweep her off her feet and show her how much he cared.
-Okay, so first, we'll start with a candlelit dinner at that small Italian restaurant in the venue next to my house - Rhysand mused aloud, his mind drifting to the cozy corner table he had shared with you hundreds of times when you both worked late night and he invited you to sleep at his house, laughing and sharing stories over plates of delicious pasta and wine - Then, we'll take a stroll through the park, hand in hand, talking and laughing - He tried to continue, the image of your smile and the warmth of your hand in his flashing before his eyes.
Rhysand sighed, realizing that everything he was planning for Feyre was merely a reflection of the moments he had lived with you. It struck him like a bolt of lightning – he knew you so well, knew what made you happy and what made your heart sing, but when it came to Feyre, he was completely lost. A mixture of guilt and confusion washed over him. He had been so focused on pursuing Feyre, believing she was the key to completing his life, that he hadn't even noticed his own heart steering him in another direction. The truth hit him like a tidal wave – he was in love with you.
Rhysand leaned back in his chair, his mind racing with the realization. How could he have missed it? He needed Feyre in his life because of his job and status, but it was you who had captured his heart in a way he had never thought possible. You had been there for him, understood him in ways no one else did, and your moments together were the most cherished memories he had.
He only had to choose. Feyre and his job. Or you and his heart.
It never took him long to decide. With the decision already made in his head he dialed your number in his phone and asked you to meet him at the rooftop garden – the very place where you had shared so many of your intimate conversations and moments. As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, you arrived, looking curious and slightly apprehensive.
-What's going on, Rhysand? - You asked, your gaze searching his face for answers.
-I was trying to plan a date for Feyre, but as I was describing it, I realized that everything I was saying… it's what we used to do, what we've done together - He paused after saying it, but you sensed it wasn't enough, his hesitation preparing you for the worst.
-What do you really want to talk about? - You asked, taking a seat across from him. Rhysand took a deep breath, his heart feeling heavy with the weight of what he was about to say.
-I need to talk to you about your position in the company - He began, trying to find the right words.
-What about it? Is there an issue? - You frowned, sensing the unease in his voice.
-I've decided to downgrade your position - Rhysand looked down for a moment before meeting your gaze again - You are going to work with Azriel now - The words hit you like a punch to the gut, and you could barely believe what you were hearing.
-What? Why? Have I done something wrong? - Your heart starts to beat faster. Everything you ever worked for, the life you sacrificed yourself numerous times to have, everything was crumbling down right in front of you.
-It's not about that - Rhysand replied, trying to keep his emotions in check - I've realized that I'm getting too distracted by you, and I need to focus on my pursuit of Feyre. I can't afford any more complications - Your eyes welled up with tears, and your initial shock turned to anger quicker than you could process what he said.
-Are you serious right now? You're downgrading me because you don't know how to flirt properly with Feyre without thinking about me? I can't believe you, Rhysand! This is ridiculous! - You shout out, your anger rising with each passing second as your mind realized what he just said - Are you fucking out of your mind? You are the one having problems and I am the one who had to suffer and sacrifice a part of my life?
-I know it sounds harsh, and I'm sorry - Rhysand said, his voice softening - But I can't deny my feelings for you any longer. You've become a distraction, and I need to put some distance between us - You stood up abruptly, your emotions boiling over.
-You're unbelievable! First, you loved me and slept with me, and now you're acting like it meant nothing? I thought we were friends at least! - Rhysand looked pained, guilt etched across his features.
-It's not that it meant nothing. It meant everything, and that's why I need to do this. I can't bear the thought of losing you, but I can't continue like this either - Your anger turned into hurt, and tears streamed down your cheeks.
-So, I'm just some inconvenience standing in the way of what you want? I thought you cared about me!
-I do care about you - Rhysand said, his own voice catching with emotion - That's why I made sure to keep the same salary, the same schedule and readjusted you to one of my best men. You will be treated well and-
-It's about that, you idiot! Do you even know me? It's not about the job itself, it's the fact that you are downgrading me for a problem that's not even mine to solve! - Your eyes poured out tears like no tomorrow would come. You looked into the skies and asked yourself if it was actually real - You know me. You know my family, my history. You know the world we live in. I don't have magic, Rhysand. And without that I have nothing. You know the number of colleges that denied my application because of my lack of powers. The only thing I ever had was my brain and my position and now you are taking it from me too.
-But it's not about your powers-
-Shut up - You interrupted him again, feeling a new wave of emotion flooding you - We both know that it is. If I had any kind of power, you would've chosen me to be your wife. Wouldn't you? - His silence told everything you needed to know, when he dropped his eyes to the ground you knew it was over - I can't believe I fell for you. I thought you were different, but you're just like every other male who only cares about his own ambitions.
-No, it's not like that - Rhysand protested, reaching out to touch your arm. But you pulled away before he could get any closer, his heart shattered a bit more.
-Don't touch me. And don't come looking for me. I need some time to take all of my things from the office and change to Azriel's - You said with a sarcastic tone, still in disbelief at what happened to you.
As you walked out of the rooftop, Rhysand sank into one of the seats, his heart heavy with regret and guilt. He knew he had hurt you deeply, and the weight of his decision was crushing him. He had let his pursuit of power and his job blind him to what truly mattered – the connection he had and the love that had grown between the both of you. He let his mind decide what was best for him and now he lost everything that mattered.
He realized that he had been selfish, trying to keep you close as a confidant and friend while pursuing someone else. It wasn't fair to you, and it wasn't fair to him either. He had to confront his feelings and figure out what he truly wanted.
As the minutes turned into hours, Rhysand couldn't concentrate on anything else, especially when he looked outside the door and the lights in your office were turned off, emptiness filling the room. The only thing you left at your table was the gifts he gave to you during all those years working together.
The night kept tense as Rhysand now stood before Feyre, his mind blank as the thought of your tears kept rushing back and forth. He had finally worked up the encounter to talk with Feyre, hoping that she would see the potential in their union. But as he looked into her eyes, he felt nothing and knew that the outcome would not be what he so fiercely desired.
-You heard my proposal. We could make a formidable pair, and I believe we could accomplish great things together - But his voice was an empty whole, his expression a paint of his sorrow.
-Is that all this is about? Power and necessity? - Feyre raised an eyebrow, and he could tell she knew something was wrong.
-It's not just about that - But the phrase came out in a whisper of uncertainty, he sighed and put his head on his head, not even looking at the female in front of him anymore - Or at least I thought or hoped it wouldn't be - Feyre's gaze softened, and she smiled a bit. Always the sweet and comprehensive Feyre.
-Rhysand, I appreciate your honesty and your proposal, I am truly honored. But power and necessity are not enough for a marriage. We need more than that. We need love, trust, and a deep emotional connection - He said with a smile, holding his hand through the table and offering reassurance.
-I know - Rhysand said, his heart sinking - And I thought I could find that with you. In the future - Feyre shook her head gently, even laughing a little.
-Rhysand, I'm attracted to females. I've always been honest about my feelings and who I am. I can't give you the love you deserve, not in that way - His head went up and his eyes widened in surprise.
-I didn't know. I swear to you. I'm deeply sorry if I knew I would never propose such nonsense - He captured her hands in both of his and took it to his head, pleading forgiveness - I shouldn't have proposed this stupid thing to anyone, actually. I'm so sorry.
-It's okay. I never talked about it in public, you wouldn't know. I'm still getting comfortable with it - Her eyes sparkled with something he couldn't tell, but he knew she had forgiven him - You're an incredible man, Rhysand, and you deserve someone who can love you the way you need to be loved. We both deserve to find happiness in our own ways - He could only raise her hand to his lips and press a kiss in it. Thankful. He felt thankful - You're a good male, Rhysand. Don't ever doubt that. But you need to stop being so stubborn and let yourself live for your emotions, not just your company.
-I'll try - He nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and pain in his heart. As he walked away from Feyre that night, Rhysand felt a sense of both loss and relief.
As he found himself standing outside your door, he knew that the one who truly held his heart was waiting for him inside. It was time for him to stop denying his emotions in favor of his job and take a chance on love, on the person who had been there for him all along.
With a newfound determination, Rhysand knocked on the door, ready to embrace the future with open arms. Whatever the outcome, he knew that he couldn't keep hiding behind his company and ambitions, it was time for him to live for his emotions and the person who had captured his heart.
As the door opened, your eyes widened in surprise and confusion at the sight of Rhysand standing there, looking both heartbroken and determined. Before you could say anything, he began to speak, his voice wavering with emotion.
-I need to tell you the truth - Rhysand said, his voice barely above a whisper - I love you. I've loved you for so long, and I can't bear the thought of losing you. I've been such a fool, pursuing power and hiding behind my ambitions, when all this time, you were the one I wanted.
-You think a big declaration can make everything go back into place? - You cut him off before he could continue, your voice trembling with anger and sadness -Do you realize how much you hurt me? Did you even listen to what I said? How can I trust you, Rhysand?
-I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry. I was blind to my own feelings, and I pushed you away when all I wanted was to be with you - Rhysand's shoulders slumped, and tears welled up in his eyes.
-You can't just say sorry and expect everything to be okay. You made your choice, Rhysand, and it wasn't me - The desperation in his eyes became evident as you moved to close the door. He ran and stopped you as fast as he could.
-I thought it was what I wanted, but I was wrong - Rhysand said, tears streaming down his cheeks - I can't lose you. I can't live without you.
-You can't just walk back into my life and expect everything to be fine. I don't know if I can trust you again - Your heart ached at the sight of his vulnerability, but you couldn't forget the pain he had caused. The things you lost because of him.
-I love you so much, and I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you - He declared, his voice raw with emotion - Please, give me a chance to show you how much you mean to me.
You felt torn apart, your heart wanting to believe him but also fearful of being hurt again. You took a step closer, bringing him inside your house before closing the door again. The same way Rhysand had made his decisions days before, you had made yours. In a moment of emotion, your lips met his in a kiss, a mixture of love, pain, and longing shared between you. It was a moment of desperation and yearning, the culmination of your intense feelings for each other. But as the kiss ended, you stepped back.
-I need time - You whispered, voice shaking with desperation - I need time to process everything, to figure out if we can ever find a way back to each other.
-I'll wait - He said, his voice filled with determination - However long it takes, I'll wait for you.
You nodded once before kissing him again, the movement memorized in your own being, the pattern very well known by both of you as you took off his coat and his shirt as you moved blindly towards your room. He knew where everything was, he knew every part of your body and every part of your heart. But it wasn't enough. It would never be enough if he didn't know how to treat your heart. He knew you, you knew him, but neither of you knew how to deal with each other.
As the morning light filtered through the curtains, the heaviness of the previous night's emotions lingered in the air. Rhysand found himself lost in your room. Your side of the bed was empty when he tried to find you. He lifted his head and started to walk around, searching for you all over your house, a place he knew like the back of his hand. He found you in the living room, hair still messy from the night before, lips still swollen and only a robe covering your body. He could get used to this vision.
-Good Morning. I thought that maybe we could - But you held up your hand, stopping him mid-sentence.
-I've had time to think, and I can't be in a relationship with you - You said, her voice resolute but tinged with sadness. Rhysand felt a mix of shock and disappointment wash over him, but he understood your decision. He cut you deeply, and he couldn't expect you to jump back into a relationship with him after everything that had happened.
-I... I understand - His voice barely above a whisper, looking at you with the hope that you would look back at him - I was a horrible person to you, and I'm sorry for everything I put you through.
-I appreciate your apology, Rhysand. But I need to move on from this and focus on my own happiness - Rhysand couldn't help but feel a sense of loss as he watched you stand firm in your decision. He had hoped for a different outcome, but he knew he had to respect your wishes after all.
-Well, at least go back to your position as my assistant - He suggested, trying to find some semblance of their previous relationship. But you only shook your head, a small smile playing on your lips.
-I'm sorry, Rhys, but I think I've found my place with Azriel. I'm very comfortable working with him, and I believe it's the right choice for me - Rhysand felt a pang of disappointment, realizing that he had truly lost you in every possible way. He had been blind to what he had in front of him, and now he was facing the consequences.
As he made his way to his car, the weight of his actions and the loss of your presence overwhelmed him. He felt defeated, lost, and uncertain of what the future held for him. But just as he was about to get into his car, he heard your voice calling out his name. He turned around to see you standing in front of the door, he looked at you hesitant but hopeful.
You took a deep breath, and for a moment, he saw a glimmer of hope in your eyes, as you considered what you were about to say.
-You can still send me messages, you know? Maybe there's still a chance for us, or maybe not. But if you ever want to talk, I'll be here. I'll think about answering them.
Rhysand felt a mixture of relief and uncertainty at your words. Maybe there was still a sliver of hope for you, a chance to rebuild what had been broken. But he also knew that he had a long way to go to earn your trust and love back. And maybe he would have a bit of competition with Azriel as your boss.
-Thank you - He said, his voice filled with gratitude - I'll take the chance.
And with that, you stood there for a moment, watching as he processed his emotions. Neither of you knew what the future held, but both of you were willing to find out. And with that, he left, giving you the space you needed. It's not a happy ending, but it was a step towards something real – a chance for both of you to confront your past, and your emotions, and to decide if love could endure the pain and uncertainty that lay ahead.
