Closing your car door harder than you intended to you, you flinch before swearing under your breath and leaning against your vehicle before covering your face in your hands, squinching your eyes as if it could hide you from the reality you were facing. 

It wasn’t that it had been hard to walk away from your dick of a cheating ex-husband. It was the starting over that scared you. It was living in a new town, surrounded by new faces and names. It was the abusive, condescending words he’s screamed at you for years echoing in the background of your mind, reminding you that you were unlovable, and that no one even wanted to be your friend. That was the part that hurt. Now, to top it all off, your fucking car had just overheated on the backwoods of no-fucking-where Montana and blew a head gasket. The universe hated you. That’s all there was to it. 

“Hey there Darlin?” A smooth, southern voice called out to you as the sound of tires crunching gravel came to a halt in front of you, and you pulled your hands down just enough to see the breathtaking smile of what you were sure had to be the most attractive man you had ever seen in all of your life. They just didn’t make ‘em like that where you were from. It stunned you, and for a moment, you forgot all about the care trouble and your dickhead ex and his hateful words, all you could see was this God of man, leaning out of an old red jeep, smiling at you. “You havin’ trouble?” 

“Yeah,” you replied, shaking your head to try and clear it to no avail as he jumped out of the driver’s side of his car, revealing long bowed legs and a broad chest and shoulders that made you want to just fucking melt right next to the car you where standing by. So you turned your back to him as he approached and leaned over the smoking hood of your car. “Blew a head gasket.” 

He signed heavily as he looked back at you with a small smirk, one that was completely playful and not at all mocking or threatening like you were used to. Was it possible to find your comfort person on the side of the road of a podunk town at a chance meeting? Because if so, you think this guy, well, he might be that person for you, because he just seemed to radiate security and comfort. 

“Well, unfortunately, I know nothing about cars,” he admitted with a slight chuckle. “But I can give you a ride into town, and see if we can make some phone calls to get you tow and hopefully back on the road in now time.”

“Thanks,” you breathe a sigh or relief that the handsome stranger wasn’t going to leave you standing alone on the side of the road. “I was planning on keeping going, but honestly, I think this might be the universe’s way of telling me I might need to stick around here in Big Sky for a little while.”

“Really?” he asked, maybe a little too excitedly at first, so he reeled it in. “Well, I can say, It ain’t Texas, but I like it so far.”

“Well, even more reason to stick around,” you smile in spite of yourself, you thought you had forgotten how to smile, but this guy seemed to pull it right out of you. 

“Name’s Beau by the way, kinda rude of me to walk up to you and just start talking like we’re old friends,” he said, turning to face you, and you blush a little. 

“Y/N,” you answer him. “It’s nice to meet you Beau.” 

Just like that, your demons from your past, they weren’t so loud.
