Exercising to lose weight will not work. Only how much food you eat will help you lose weight. The thing is a little bit of exercise is still necessary. Not only to tone the body, but to get the bone density up, improve your strength to lift things, bend down and pick up things, reach up and lift things. The problem is exercise also makes your hungry. Too much exercise will make you insatiably hungry. A few weeks later you gain a few pounds instead of losing weight. Your comfort yourself saying it is all muscle mass. It’s not. You have over eaten. So, the trick is to start very slowly. Exercise a little but make it short and intense. Maybe be like 8 minutes only. Then immediately drink some water with a pinch salt and lime. Did you know salt helps to metabolize fats? A meticulous 2006 Russian study at the international space station (article in the NY times) found that salt actually breaks down fats and muscles but also makes you hungry. Another conundrum. So, the best solution maybe to eat a bit salt, let it do its magic, wait as long as possible and then eat a small meal of vegetables (for nutrients), a small bit of protein (for muscles) and fats to provide satiety and prevent over eating. And then the main meal with carbs much later. Give it a try and report back to us. Of course, not too much salt in the water. Just a pinch in the water.

I have five squirrels that come to visit me: Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Gus, and Cheatah. The problem is they bury the walnuts I give them in my potted plants and then dig them up. Absolute rascals! The cheekiness of it! Biting the hand that feeds them. Well, the best way to deter them is to spray some Ceylon Cinnamon Leaf Oil, diluted to 10% with water, on the topsoil. Do not use the more expensive Ceylon Cinnamon Bark Oil. The much cheaper Ceylon Cinnamon Leaf Oil is better here because it has a harsher aroma. Not to worry, it will not damage your plants when diluted. You have to apply a thin layer to the topsoil twice a week or so. Okay, I cheat sometimes. Sometimes I apply it undiluted because I’m a bit lazy. That’s okay as long as you don’t spray any plant leaves because, at 100%, the Cinnamon Oil will burn the plant leaves. I tried applying the Cinnamon Leaf Oil on the edge of the planters, but this way it evaporated too fast. It is best to apply it to the top layer of soil. Once they get used to it (in about two weeks), you can apply it sporadically. Then the squirrels and other bugs will get the message: Do not dig up your plants.

I had a small family gathering the other day and as usual I was the last to finish eating. It’s a running family joke. They say I should talk less and eat fast. For me one should eat like a King, taking the time to relax and actually taste the food and not just eat it in seconds like a hungry Dog. My old boss in Canada would never rush and skip lunch. My boss in Hong Kong would spend 70 minutes for lunch with the staff which was frequent. Both are slim and healthy to this day. Eating fast will increase weight gain. Why? Apparently, it takes twenty minutes for our brains to register we are full. You can do a of damage in twenty minutes, especially if you eat fast and keep eating. More importantly your digestion will be affected. The body will process the food faster but also absorb less nutrition. For many it can create bloating and gas. Life is too short. Enjoy the taste, textures and aroma of food and get the full benefits of it. Even if you are a worker Bee, you can take the time to eat like a King.
