After nearly 20 years may be at the end of my diagnostic hell journey

Anyone who saw my DeviantArt likely saw my occasional grump and diagnostic posts. Been previously been formally diagnosed with Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia (resting heart rate of 100+ bpm and random palpitations and speed up with no trigger) and Hypophosphatemia (low phosphate salts in blood). Those two took best part of 15 years to come to due to being very rare, but both are symptoms without a cause. They've caused exercise intolerance, fatigue, pain and brain fog. Going on phosphate supplements and Coenzyme Q10 helped some, but was still having pain, issues exercising, random fatigue and brain fog. Finally been formally diagnosed with the cause for the above symptoms; Pernicious Anemia. Rare but manageable and treatable. I start on a 4 round booster shots of B12 this coming week then 4 shots per year for the rest of my days.

1. Drink a glass of water when you wake up. Your body loses water while you sleep, so you’re naturally dehydrated in the morning. A glass of water when you wake helps start your day fresh. 2. Define your top 3. Every morning ask yourself, “What are the top three most important tasks that I will complete today?” Prioritizes your day accordingly and don’t sleep until the Top 3 are complete. 3. The 50/10 Rule. Solo-task and do more faster by working in 50/10 increments. Use a timer to work for 50 minutes on only one important task with 10 minute breaks in between. Spend your 10 minutes getting away from your desk, going outside, calling friends, meditating, or grabbing a glass of water. 4. Move and sweat daily. Regular movement keeps us healthy and alert. It boosts energy and mood, and relieves stress. 5. Express gratitude. Gratitude fosters happiness. Each morning, think of at least five things you’re thankful for. In times of stress, pause and reflect on these things. 6. Reflect daily. Bring closure to your day through 10 minutes of reflection. Asks yourself, “What went well?” and “What needs improvement?””

Hello! My newest short film, “Dry Run”, appears as a segment in the latest episode of Adult Swim’s Off The Air, which is now on YouTube in its entirety! Today’s episode is about HEALTH. My segment appears at 5:08 and is about a Trolval, a “monstrous whale of ill-intent” and one of the recurring sea monster motifs that would adorn European maps in the 1500s, particularly in the uncharted spots they assumed were full of horrible things that would kill you. Growing up in one of those then-uncharted monster spots, Australia, I can’t help but notice the Western World still, quite unfairly, talks about our actual wildlife the same way. If indeed “Here Be Dragons” as the maps say, they’re probably on the endangered species list. ENJOY!

Holy shit you guys.

I just came from my first appointment with a psychiatrist. This post, which I'd seen before, actually popped up on my dash yesterday and I was going to ignore it because I'm stubbornly honest, but then it occurred to me that I've been stressing so much about this appointment... worried he wouldn't take me seriously about my having ADHD. I'm 51. I just... Well, you know. Anyway a little while after seeing the post I was like, y'know, this could be a sign from the universe.

So I did it. I went in there and told him my supervisor told me she thinks I might have ADHD. I also said everything else I'd intended to, but I led with that. And of course I can't be sure if that is what tipped the scales, but he wasn't sure, and yet still said we'd try a low dose of Ritalin.

You. Guys.

And who knows, maybe it won't help. But maybe it will. I get to try! I'm feeling so hopeful right now.
