Okay, this never happens. I just sat down for a solid 3 and a half hours and wrote a fic from start to end in a draft format that closely resembles mid-draft as opposed to first draft. My concentration never wavered.
I’m afraid
I can’t stop watching Kakegurui, it’s taking over my entire life
w-szpurka:
I would definitely be more invested and interested in a story of an unlikely hero. Not like Midoriya Izuku who even without a power has all the qualities of a good hero and then gets a power and chance to prove thar.
I’ve seen and heard and read about this story too many times it seems like it’s something I watched already dozens of times.
I find it hard to relate to his story, because... well, because I’m not like that. It’s hard for me to relate to him, because he’s just so extreme - he’s the epithome of a pure heart, he loves everyone, he wants to help everyone, he’ll do everything to make that happen.
Yes, it’s admirable. But it’s just not realistic.
You know who I wanna see in the new hero stories?
I wanna see more Kirishimas. Plain people who’s first instict isn’t to jump into action. People who are scared to do that. Does that mean they just shouldn’t be heroes, shouldn’t help people? Of course not. I wanna see more people who decide on their own that they wanna be heroes. Peope who are struggling with their own confidence, who reinvent themselves, because they want to do good, help people, be heroes. People without this instinct (but with no less pure heart) who make the decision to jump inti action and help people, even if they know it’s dangerous, even if they could just walk away.
I wanna see more Bakugous! More selfish bastards who are on the good side. Who want to do good, even if the whole world doubts their intentions. Even if everyday they hear they would be a good villain and yet even when kidnapped and threatened don’t even entertain the idea of choosing the bad side. I wanna see heroes as people who are not naturally kind, nice or even polite. Who have a bitch face and are rough manner of being and speaking, people who have a filthy fucking mouth and who deal with a lof of shit in their lives. Peopke who want to be heroes but can’t express their emotions well, who can’t consol people, who don’t know what to say to a crying kid. People who are better with actions that word. People who know they would never be “the perfect nice, smiling hero” everyone want, but they can help and achieve their goals in different ways. People who maybe wanted to do good things for the wring reasons, but learned what it really means and what they lack. Just people who learn from their mistakes and slowly, gradually learn how to be better.
So if another person asks me why I don’t like Deku, I say I have no problem with him as a person, I would even like him if he was a side character. I don’t like his story, I don’t relate to his story and problems, I think he’s too powerful. I think with All Might and the power Deku’s been given it’s too easy for him to be a hero. He’s always been a hero even without any powers, so his story doesn’t feel like it’s growing. He doesn’t BECOME a hero, he never had to. I think he’s not a good main character.
But that’s just my opinion
I’m sorry, but I think you’re confusing Fanon!Izuku with Canon!Izuku. Izuku is not a happy, perfect cinnamon roll. The quality you’re actually bashing is empathy, which true- Not a lot of people exhibit to the level he does, but that’s exactly why he’s has the potential to develop into a great hero: At heart, he genuinely wants to help people. Not “GET STRONGER/BE THE BEST”, which is way more stereotypical shounen protag than a character that is exhibiting positive qualities traditionally associated with female characters (caring, gentle hearted, emotional, etc).
Being nice and caring about other people in theory is one thing, but Izuku actually puts action to his feelings/words, which does actually take courage to be kind (especially given his background with being mistreated due to being Quirkless). In fact, Izuku being treated like absolute garbage in universe being the reason WHY he wants to reach out and help people would be a great thing to be confirmed in canon, since “saving people is the coolest thing a hero can do” is kinda vague. Saying something like “I know how it feels to be ignored and overlooked, I don’t want anyone to feel that alone and helpless” would be a better motivation, I think.
Izuku’s selflessness is what draws me to him as a character because to me, he is believable- He doesn’t come across like a Pollyanna or in love with only the idea of being a hero (the acclaim and attention), he does want to reach others and “do something good for them” (which is something he admits in the sports festival during the fight w/ Todoroki).
And OFA isn’t just handed to him on a silver platter, he has to struggle and learn how to use this power without hurting himself/destroying his body and the narrative has punished him for going beyond his own limits before (Forest Training Camp Arc being the biggest example of this).
Izuku is an abuse victim, he has been shown to have social anxiety- his own sense of self worth and confidence are quite low. You say you want more heroes that second guess themselves, Izuku does this already- He does it like all the time, he overthinks a situation so much, in the end he has the buckle down and focus on “what I need to do for X victim right NOW”. Kirishima had one moment of self pity in middle school before he reinvented himself and he does normally throw himself into a fight first and foremost without thinking now (when he and Bakugo attacked Kurogiri/the Warp Gate villain in the USJ rather than hang back and listen to their instructors).
I don’t know what you’ve been coming away with from watching and/or reading the series because it’s vastly different than what I and others have experienced, but if you’re going to use general tags on character bash posts, at least have your canon facts straight to back up your opinion.
You tagged another Izuku critical post with general tags and said post was incredibly Victim Blame-y. You criticize Izuku for being “too scared to stand up to Bakugo” and that he “needs to get angry at Bakugo”, who has canonically abused and terrorized him for YEARS, he can’t do those things because HE IS SCARED OF BAKUGO- All of the conflicts between him and Bakugo have been incredibly one-sided, with Izuku trying to POINTEDLY AVOID having Bakugo’s attention on him since historically that’s lead to him getting beaten up and verbally torn to shreds. It’s one thing to realize someone is an abuse victim and fairly criticize their decisions, and another to criticize an abuse victim for their behavior that stems from being abused.
You don’t have to like Izuku as a character, that’s not what I’m trying to push here- I’m just pointing out that you want a character that has qualities Izuku already possesses. I think it would be better to re-examine why you don’t like the way Izuku handles those traits and aspects of his personality. But at the very least, if you’re going to post that you feel this way regardless of how canon actually is, then it really shouldn’t be in general character tags where people go to find content about a character they like.
