When to Info Dump
I was taught as a young writer to never ever ‘info dump’. An info dump is a paragraph (or several) that just runs the readers through info they need to know. While avoiding info dumps is typically a good practice—lots of information at once can be overwhelming, boring, or ‘cheap’—as with most things in writing, never say never. Recently, I finished a book that info dumps often, and with intention, and it worked.
To info dump well, you actually have to do it often (or relatively often). Just one info dump somewhere in the middle or beginning of the story is going to seem like a mistake. Using it as a literary technique however, and it adds a sort of intrigue, whimsy, or discordant tone to your story.
In this way, it becomes a quirk of your narrator’s voice. It should match or make sense with the character you are following. A super serious, meticulous character may info dump in the way they would list off the information they know. A more bubbly character may info dump out of excitement to share their interests.
Which brings us to the type of information you can reasonably info dump without getting in trouble. Of course, the information shared should be stuff that your character would know, but also, information that they would care to share.
For example, that serious character would info dump only pertinent, personally important information, whereas the bubbly character probably wouldn’t info dump about real estate or politics—unless of course it’s part of their special interests. A detail oriented character may only info dump about things they are noticing in the moment. A history buff would definitely info dump about culture and the past.
Essentially, use the right amount, for the right character, with the right information, and you can pull off an intentional and well-done info dump. Otherwise, avoid it!
What are your thoughts on exposition or info-dumping?

So i tried to experiment w my shading and to finally try colour theory... its.. kind of hard ngl. The colour theory i mean. But i like how it turns out! Def going to try this shading (?) technique later (even though its kind of a pain in the arse to shading but eh🤷♀️)

spirits as they abandon their villages or die or both: its ok guys in like 1000000 years we can get flying babies made of clay to fix it

I wonder sometimes, how often the mining accidents keep Forest Elder up at night.
How the cave ins and rock slides took life after life. How long tearful lightminier and their friends we're stuck there, right outside the temple. Did Forest Elder feel helpless? Did they stay in the rain to move the rocks? I feel like they did, I like to think they stayed there for hours, hands bleeding and dress ruined from the mud and rain, refusing to give up, not wanting to give up because in their eyes, if they did, they'd fail as an Elder. I like to think the forest floods regularly, quickening the evident erosion clear as day in the realm, washing away the soil, food, and spirits. I like to think that's how tearful miner died, not by drowning, but being stuck in a flood when in the cave, the rocks being removed to save them now being what kept them alive, forcing the rescue teams back.
I can imagine the guilt, Forest Elder ascending the spirits they couldn't save, that died under the protection they promised to give when they became an Elder.
I usually see the general assumptions people make of forest elder being cold, mean. And I just, don't get it. They took our light because they had the desire to build, to create after being stuck in limbo for god knows how long. I get them, I get the eagerness to do something I couldn't do for a long time. Forest Elder to me is somebody who means well, somebody that on the outside might have the struggle with tone and expression (neurodivergent hc). But they're the type to help you with whatever you need, the type to show their care through gifts than words, they would fight for you, they would do whatever necessary to look at a better future. They might not show it, but they have their own way's to show appreciation, fear. I cant sleep, so thus I think of Forest Elder.
Bless you bruh
A while ago I wanted to find some sort of reference for various skykid “skin”/shell tones… after not finding one, I decided to make my own

The ones at the bottom right are much closer to blue, so would fit the shell tones from the Rhythm pants, but in my AU they represent skykids suffering from the corruption (as their light is fading, their skin becomes less warm and more blue, as blue is the color of dying light, like spirits and darkness plants)
Feel free to use this for your art or save to your files!
