Armand = the absent boss everyone is pissed at, because he's more interested in running after his fling than in running the business properly

Santiago = cashier, wearing a smiley pin with "no pain" on his shirt, and he's also responsible for pointing customers toward the changing cubicles when they ask. Those have trap doors so the vampires can quickly grab their food. Convenient really

Sam = janitor who doubles as the company's true fashion designer and secretly spies for the rival business

Claudia = the unpaid, hopeful intern

IWTV in which everything is the same, except instead of a theatre, the vampires work at retail.

Okay question: It's kinda hard to move freely without spoilers in vampire chronicles book spaces when one has read some books but not all yet. I've read up to and including The Vampire Armand (+started Pandora but paused) and I read a few pages of Merrick and really want to continue with the VC- then I heard it's best to read the Mayfair chronicles first. I read about 100 pages of The Witching Hour and sorry but for me it's boring af. Is it worth it, for better enjoyment of the later VC books, to sit through reading the Mayfair chronicles? Honest opinion?

rolin being like armandaniel is entirely about louis and the way that daniel’s turning is armand both punishing louis one last time and also making sure that louis remains tethered to him through daniel even if only indirectly… and considering how resentful armand was and is that claudia was this eternal link between loustat and how daniel’s like a little brother to louis, 1973 daniel and how louis attacks him when he says “i could be your Claudia” and how desperate he was to save daniel being informed by not being to protect claudia… much to think about and see

Is there a post yet that speaks about the fact that Armand literally always (could be wrong and missed something of course) wears unbuttoned/V-neckline shirts EXEPT in 2x8 when shit goes down???

I don't have fully fledged theories yet but an idea is that he knew what was about to happen (to a capacity) because why wouldn't he have read Daniel's mind and no the statements about human thoughts being boring most of the time doesn't count because it's DANIEL and no decency and respecting boundaries doesn't count because it's ARMAND

And that it either was something unconscious or conscious that made him choose another shirt for that part because idk maybe something about trying to make himself even less vulnerable.

All that or

He didn't want to get blood on his favourite shirts when they would be about to drain Daniel (the "we have something special prepared for you, Daniel") lol

daniel, wake up, my love, i’ve a most important development to share. something called kinktober has commenced, a digital ceremony of sorts. beloved, you are going to want to read these documents. they are putting your cervix through the most dastardly of situations. exquisite, is it not? these mortals— they paint their tales of our courtship in such vivid color. i’ve already made a list of their most ingenious conceptualizations we might add to our bedroom repertoire. one for each night of the month, don’t you think? to honor the traditions

Endearment? Endearment?? Armand… No ok but this is kinda insane, and it has layers too because… So, obviously it’s wild to call this…kind of disturbing title, that just screams power, an endearment. But we know Armand longs to be loved. Whether he fully admits it to himself of not, but he probably wants to be called by an endearment now and again, an expression of love and devotion that’s tangible and easily accessible, clearly expressed. But who is there to call him by an endearment? He’s got no family (as most vampires), no companion for centuries now, not even any particularly close friend(s). Given the rank difference between him and the coven members, it’s also unlikely that he would be forming those kind of intimate bonds with any of them – like, yea sure, they’re all fucking each other, but that’s surface, and they were probably still calling him Maitre then. And at the same time, the coven is the closest he’s got to family/friends. So if he can just kind of refrain Maitre as an endearment – consciously or not – it fills that hole a little. It’s a title, yes, but also a name signaling not just power dynamics but closeness and devotion, from the only people who are in any way positioned to offer him that (even if in reality they don’t). He just needs this so much, he’ll pretend.

On another layer…the fact that Armand is even capable of reframing this as an endearment at all… Seems to speak to his history and the relationship with Marius. How the last (and only?) time that he felt loved, cared for and safe was with Marius (as fucked up as that relationship was – Armand’s coping mechanisms include romanticizing the abuse). And he would have referred to Marius as Master – Maitre. Also a title, but within the context there it became something of an endearment too, and that conflation would be perpetuated by the fact that that’s what Armand called the last person who offered him at least the illusion of love and care, the closest he ever had to those things at any rate. (Like especially with show!Armand whose own parents sold him into slavery, etc.)

But then also the last layer of the dynamic with Louis and how the whole “call me Armand” thing functions as a weird double-edged sword. Like…in a normal circumstance, someone saying, “you don’t need to use my title just call me by name” would be a sign of closeness, an invitation toward intimacy. And in some ways, it still is here. Louis functions outside of Armand’s norma structures, he’s different. He’s special. But given the context that he’s just called his an endearment and the coven being the closest substitute for a family/friendship group…imagine calling someone by a nickname their family/friends use and they ask you to call them by their full name. That creates distance – we don’t have that kind of relationship yet. And as they’ve only just met, that would make sense… It’s especially interesting in relation to the bench scene, the scene where they commit (recommit in Armand’s case?) to each other, and Armand calls Louis Maitre for the first time. Agh I love them, they’re just so much.

I rewatched some scenes while working on another edit, and then I suddenly noticed this one from the beginning of season 2 (first or second episode, not sure atm) and it FINALLY clicked for me, WHY Armand reacted to Daniel's words with this smile. So I made this little clip, to make the foreshadowing explicit!

an underexplored devil's minion concept is if 70's devil's minion did happen and armand did delete daniel's memories but he's really wiped them. they're gone. he doesn't have them, he can't give them back to him. daniel can't remember.

endless opportunities.

armand wanting desperately to make daniel remember this precious time they spent together but having to suffer the consequences of his own actions.

daniel feeling like armand is chasing after some version of him that he doesn't remember being. feeling like he came back wrong.

armand trying to give daniel something of that time back through his own memories but the memories being all wrong and altered and an unreliable account of what happened that contradicts itself. a story of two people shared among those two people but with only one perspective of it, completely unbalanced and devoid of their true emotional value, only making that time more confused for daniel.

daniel being all too aware of a gap in his mind where something good and important used to be but he can never truly know what.

armand feeling that important treasured moments between them are barely even real anymore because the understanding and trust they created among them functionally never happened. but he will know. he will always know.

the inherit imbalance of beginning a relationship from two completely different points. the respective feelings of

"i love you but there is this suffocating feeling of loss in me every time i look at you"

and

"i can never be enough for you because there is someone you look for in me that i can never be."

Today some distant relatives are visiting and honestly they talk like its a telenovela - of course Daniel appeared in my head with this take lol

Post-season 2, I don't think Louis is running back to what he thinks is going to be a nightmare, an abuser, a lunatic—becase Louis is also a lunatic—and I don't think The Drop is being swept under the rug. I think Louis is choosing to leave it lie. And I don't even think it has anything to do with the apology at the trial, even though it was definitely needed. I think it only has a little bit to do with Lestat saving Louis.

I think, in Louis' mind, they're EVEN.

Not that it didn't happen, or that it was forgivable, or that he is willing to look past it. No, Louis is vindictive. Louis keeps track. Louis is organized. Louis knows the cards in his hand.

Lestat nearly killed Louis. Louis nearly killed Lestat.

Louis saved Lestat. Lestat saved Louis.

I think, that without the blame for the trial, Louis' scales are balanced. The slate is clean. They're even. And maybe that's ruthless or narrow minded, but they are Monsters. This show is about the humanity in monstrosity. And I think that honestly the audience is meant to see them as "even" too, that way they can start at the beginning again—be friends, laugh together, cry together, fall in love again.
