Inspired by the RotE Discord prompt "Unfinished Business." And by business, I mean projects. Patience is the queen of abandoned WIPs.

i don't understand people who say that aromanticism is a sad thing. personally, i'd never felt more liberated than when i realized i didn't have to date anyone, or that the reason i felt uncomfortable with romantic affection was not because i was a horrible person

for me, being arospec means the freedom of not having to fulfill society's expectations of what my life should be like. it means that i can allow myself to find happiness in things that are not romantic relationships. and it means i can stop getting into relationships without actually being attracted to the other person.

i know those are things that alloromantics can also benefit from and should internalize (amatonormativity hurts everyone, after all), but being arospec makes it even more liberating, if that makes any sense

Ok, so imma expand on this a bit more. 'cause I'm aromantic, and this is the only thing I have ever come across that has made me even slightly understand what romantic love is.

The way that it teeters on the edge of both grand, epic gestures of love, and then the small, everyday, and the teasing moments of love. Because for me, all of my closest relationships live on the edge of that knife. Where you can have a relationship with a person where you can spill your heart to them, and then they make a joke, because they know you. And they know that you hate talking about your feelings and they know you'll appreciate being able to talk about in a lighter mood.

Its about recognising somebody's flaws, and still being there. Its about accepting the whole of a person. "You don't need to pretend to be someone you're not/ 'Cause it's not like I've never heard you fart and snore".

I just love how its so real. It doesn't exaggerate. It just presents relationships as they exist: serious, silly, flawed and beautiful. And that is something that I can begin to understand as a non-partnering aro :)
