i think the reason i immediately distrust people who diss on 2012 Leo for the times he lashes out is that it shows they don’t have an in-depth understanding of trauma, or at the very least, character analysis and nuance. they’re so quick to villainize a teenager for expressing symptoms of trauma (and, in my personal belief, PTSD), and mental health issues that they don’t take a moment to consider where those symptoms are stemming from. 

and this isn’t saying that Leo is perfect, or that all of his actions are excusable on the grounds of mental health, don’t get me wrong. i am a firm believer in accountability, and there have been many moments where i found myself unable to stick up for his actions. but a lot of what people attack him for aren’t his Really Bad mistakes or lapses in character - they judge and mock his trauma responses and the times where he’s completely stressed out and over-burdened.

I've been rewatching the 2012 show (AGAIN)

And I got a quite nice amount of screenshots.

(Leo edition because I realised I have the goofiest ones from him and idek why but he has many silly frames I can't even pack in here)

they looks so stupid, geez, I'm sorry i made them all half asian half latino because I'm latino, and they aren't exactly human either but close enough, yeah? enough to tag this as "human au" lol, more info under the cut!

I made these boys once when i the first thought of "if Leonardo was a human he would tie up his hair with his mask tails" and it escalated so quickly- It's also most similar to 2012 because that's the series I'm most well acquainted with!

In these AU the guys are BOTH yokai and mutants, so they can shape shift into humans! the mutation affected their "true" turtle forms to be humanoid and their human form traits to be more close to splinter, whom i have yet to settle on a design for, lol sorry.

People always write fics where the turtles are suddenly human as these big serious dealios, or as overdramatic love stories, but in reality

It’d just be four very uncomfortable teenage boys.

Like, they’d spend the first ten minutes just going “whAt tHE FuCk” because oh my god they have HAIR now and holy fUCK is it ever ITCHY.

Then they’d move on to being weirded out about having tiny-ass hands and feet (“how do you guys pick up anything your limbs are so fucking SMALL”), followed quickly by freaking out about having One Of Those hanging between their legs. Like, it’d be so WEIRD for them to have something there. Like a permanent limp boner they can’t get rid of. Shit would be 100% awkward for them to have swinging around down there.

And CLOTHES, my god. They’ve never worn pants a day in their life, and now they have to wear that and More??? It’s even itchier than the hair good god.

And don’t even get me started on how badly their internal balance would be shot. No Fucking Shells, how do humans even get around like this it’s so EXPOSED feeling.

Point being it’d just be Hyper Discomfort until Donnie fixed things. That and they’d probably go be public nuisances for a few hours in daylight. (Social skills, what are those?)
