i think the reason i immediately distrust people who diss on 2012 Leo for the times he lashes out is that it shows they don’t have an in-depth understanding of trauma, or at the very least, character analysis and nuance. they’re so quick to villainize a teenager for expressing symptoms of trauma (and, in my personal belief, PTSD), and mental health issues that they don’t take a moment to consider where those symptoms are stemming from. 

and this isn’t saying that Leo is perfect, or that all of his actions are excusable on the grounds of mental health, don’t get me wrong. i am a firm believer in accountability, and there have been many moments where i found myself unable to stick up for his actions. but a lot of what people attack him for aren’t his Really Bad mistakes or lapses in character - they judge and mock his trauma responses and the times where he’s completely stressed out and over-burdened.
