You stood there blinking. You heard Klaus correctly, didn't you? He was in love with you, of all people he liked you...
"Uh... I..." You struggled to find the right words, "Please don't take this the wrong way, but... I don't know if I feel the same about you."
You somehow managed to look up at Klaus, worried he would be upset at you. It wasn't like he asked a week after, he had waited five months to say anything. But his face was unreadable. Should you...talk more?
You cleared your throat, "Um, what I mean is that I don't want to rush into this without knowing how I feel. I just got use to being around you as a friend. I don't want to risk jeopardizing that because I didn't actually feel the same way. You know?"
Klaus focused on your eyes. That sound of uneasy and doubtfulness. Yet what he was hearing was exactly how he felt these past months. And Klaus couldn't blame you for wanting to take your time figuring this out.
"Of course [Name]." He pressed a respectful kiss to your knuckles, "I understand where you're coming from. I don't mind waiting to for you to figure it out for yourself. I sincerely want you to take all the time you may need for this."
You felt terrible for rejecting Klaus like that. Even if it wasn't a real rejection. But you hadn't been thinking about that at all. You honestly believed Klaus could do better. That he'd be happier with someone else.
Regardless of how similar you two were.
And you stewed over that, making sure that what you wanted was Klaus's happiness over your own. Considering the confession on it's own had blind-sided you with an unexpected rush of joy and longing.
It didn't even register how long you were making Klaus wait. Not that you thought he'd wait around forever. But before you knew it, it was December. And you barely had an answer.
What was he going to think? Had he already given up on you? He definitely deserved better than you.

Omg Leo and kiss prompt 45 pls!! Heβs such a sweet boy Iβm literally in love
Guuuuurl (GN) same. Poor sweet boi has my heart.
45. A kiss on the hipbone
You were relaxing, all stretched out over the couch with Leo. You sat at one end, Leo stretched across the rest of the couch, his head resting in your lap. With him finally able to take a break from both jobs, the two of you decided to stay in as much as you could today.
And several rounds of racing games was the perfect way to unwind. Though you were a bit better at this than Leo was, sniping him in the final stretch and passing to claim first place. But Leo wasn't that upset about it. He got to hear you laughing and see you smile, even if it was at his expense.
He turned inward, just a little too lovestruck to keep watching you between races. Instead surprising you with a soft kiss over your clothes, right around your hip bone.

Zapp really wished his friend would straight up leave Raju. This was ridiculous. That stupid dish rag wouldn't actually care much one way or the other. Nor would he stick around much. This was way too far.
But they wouldn't listen to reason. Whatever Raju has been telling them, it stuck. So maybe opening their eyes when he wasn't around would help.
You opened the door and saw Zapp standing there. Weird, he usually texted first. Oh well. You could use a break from playing your games anyways. Though once in the door, Zapp looked around. Making sure Raju wasn't around.
"What? Paranoid that Raju will pop out?" You smirked, "Chill dude. He's off for work."
"Yeah, about that." Zapp looked at you, "You even know what he does? What he did for my training?"
"No, why?"
Zapp rolled his eyes, of course he wouldn't tell you anything, "Well, its about time someone did."
"Or not." You turned back to the living room, Zapp following you, "I trust Raju's judgement that it would be too dangerous for me to know. Especially in this city."
Zapp frowned. Stupid sadistic c-m rag really has covered his tracks, and made a good argument. But just as Zapp was a about to actually lay into the "truth", he caught sight of some really weird knick knacks across shelves.
Old skulls and colorful rocks lined up around other weird trinkets. Various tiny statues and gemstones, especially around the windows. Zapp reached for one, turning it over in his hand.
"Where'd ya get these?"
"Raju brings them when he travels." You shifted a couple feathers in resin to show off the plumage, "He's always bringing a little box full of trinkets. Usually rocks, geodes, and animal bones. Though sometimes he'll bring back some kind of jewelry or gemstones."
"Uh huh." Zapp looked around the room, realizing just how much was here, "And he just does this? You didn't ask him to?"
"Nope. He started doing it after we were together for a month or so. It's kinda like how cats and birds bring things when you actually think about it."
Zapp was quiet. This was nothing that lined up with how he knew Raju to act. If it didn't have a purpose then it was useless. But here he seemed to be going out of his way to bring you interesting and shiny objects. But why?
"Has he ever...ya know?" Zapp waved his hand in a circle, "Used this stuff against you or anything?"
You frowned, "No. Raju has never tried leveraging sex out of me. Just because you do that doesn't mean anyone else does."
"Hey!" Zapp's temper flared for a second before logic took over, "You don't have to call me out on it. I just wanted to check. He's never really been the kind to gift things. Or do something without a reason. A purpose."
"Well, he has said is because he thinks about me when he travels." You turned to a large headdress of feathers on the wall, gently brushing some lint off it, "And people tend to have vague, non-physical reasons behind giving things to each other. So its probably just that."
"Damn, he really does care about you huh?"
You turned to Zapp, an annoyed expression across your face. He put both hands up in surrender, before noticing the open window.
"Clearly not much with the window open like that though."
"Hm? Oh, that." You stopped Zapp from going near the window, "Raju doesn't like the idea of carrying keys, afraid he'll lose it or someone getting to me that way. So he comes and goes through the window."
Zapp got a solid backhand for snickering.
"Not like that ding-nut." You sighed, "He put these weird, ethereal ribbon things around all the windows and door. Said it'll keep harmful, unwanted guests out. And seriously, its weird."
"How's that?"
"This window is open all the time, but no bugs or even rain ever comes in. Raju seems to be the only one able to go through it. But he did say if I ever tried I could. But uh..."
"No way you'll be able to get all the way up here to test it."
"Bingo."
Zapp huffed a little. Maybe his friend was in better shape than he thought. After all, if Raju was taking all these precautions, to the point of sealing an apartment's windows and door with heavy arcana, then he couldn't be that bad for his friend. He'll keep his nose down, for now.

You thought about the woman beside you in the car. Drunk from another night with her coworkers and adorably singing with the radio. Chain was completely off key and wiggling in her seat like a small child. She really was bad about drinking too much. But you didn't mind. She was just unwinding from this crazy city.
And you couldn't help but join in a little as you drove.
Chain was very good at distracting you tho, not fully seeing the speeding vehicle coming around the corner. Chain's sharp gasp was punctuated by your own as you jerked the wheel.
You didn't really know how, but it felt like a hand passed through yours. And it hurt. Sadly, the low wall of the railing was more than enough to crash the car. Airbags deploying and knocking you right out.
Chain panicked, the situation sobering her completely as she half freaked out. Moving you into the passenger seat so she could take the blame for the crash. Then calling for a ambulance.
All she could do was wait. Soft whimpers escaped her as she brushed your hair out of your face. She had tried taking you with her using her powers. But that didn't help, Chain heard your gasp and knew what it meant.
Next time she would just call a cab or something. Being fielded into the hospital and allowed to sit in the room with you while you recovered was all she could do right now. Hiding from what she felt was completely her fault.
If she hadn't gone out drinking tonight, you wouldn't be hurt after all.

Raju was so focused on the blood breed in front of him, and not in the least bit concerned about collateral damage. Humas typically ran from destruction when they weren't expected to help with it. So he was generally free to fight as destructively as he wanted.
And with this particular blood breed being rather weak, Raju's ability to sever it's limbs and burn it to ash was extremely effective. Though he wasn't aware that anyone was in the building that caught fire behind the writhing blood breed. And was extremely surprised to see medical professionals rushing into the building after it was extinguished.
His confusion turned to horror when you were among the wounded brought out. Even worse, you were the only one with sever burns across your back and side. Had... That had to be his fault. He was the one that set the fire.
Raju sat in the apartment until it was dark. Unable to really face the reality that he had injured you. Even if it had been a complete accident, it was still his fault for not thinking. For not even bothering to be considerate. If he just thought about every situation, treated them all as if you were near enough to get hurt...
That could hurt his ability to fight. Or would it?
Raju finally gathered his thoughts and went to visit the hospital, shocked they would leave the window open. Had you said something? Or was it common for them to allow fresh air inside? Perhaps the good doctor here just thought the cold night air was better for burns?
Regardless, Raju was slow in approaching your bed. Far more careful in putting his hand against your face, avoiding the bandages and small bits of exposed wound. He did this to you. It had been his fault, no matter what he was doing. There was no excuse for you being in here, no excuse for him to not take the blame for this.
He couldn't speak, his throat felt far to dry for words. Instead ever so carefully nudging your uninjured cheek, needing to figure out how he could make up for this.

You were trying to ignore the dark clouds outside the window all day. Of course it would rain the day you didn't have your umbrella on hand. If you could make it home before it---
Nope, the rain started up shortly after lunch. And sadly, it wasn't stopping or even letting up anytime soon. Your restlessness about this had been spotted by Klaus. While it was fairly easy for him to watch you glance outside with a frown, he hesitated in offering to walk you home.
He had a crush on you to be sure, but walking together under an umbrella felt like it was far too romantic to be an innocent gesture. Even if his mentality was contradictory to the reality of the situation, he still had to worry about the fact that he would be leaned over... very close to your face, the whole time.
The mental image had Klaus blushing, trying to hide his face when he should have been trying to hide his ears.
You took a deep breath as the elevator door opened, about to walk head first into this rain storm without any real plan of action. When...
"[Name], please hold the elevator!"
Your foot jut out in between the closing doors, holding it for a second to let Klaus enter. It had to be a coincidence he was coming this way, given you knew the garage entrance was elsewhere. Maybe Gilbert had been running errands.
"Thank you [Name]." Klaus was past the point of no return, just have to say it, "I wasn't aware you had already taken off before I could grab my umbrella."
"Don't mention it Klaus." You smiled a little, ignoring the pounding in your ears, "I don't think I've ever seen you walk home though. Not that its a bad thing! I just..."
Oh great, here you were blowing everything. It wasn't like your crush on Klaus had been that subtle, but somehow Klaus hadn't picked up on it at all.
"Oh, yes." Klaus was twisting the umbrella a little in his hands, "I usually wouldn't, except I needed Gilbert to run a few errands and thought walking would be a little faster than simply waiting for him at the office. My timing could use a little work though I suppose."
The two of you shared a slightly nervous giggle. Though Klaus was able to play off why he was here, for now, there wasn't much time left to ask before you two would be facing the rain.
Klaus cleared his throat, attempting to do so quietly, "Incidentally [Name], I've noticed you don't seem to have your umbrella. If you'd be comfortable with it, I could walk with you?"
"Oh, yeah." You were staring at your feet, of course Klaus would pick up that, "Uh...I wouldn't want you going out of your way for me. I'll be fine on my own."
"Are you sure?" Klaus leaned forward a little, "I assure you it isn't out of my way. I'd hate to hear you got sick when I could have helped you avoid it."
You were trying to hide how you'd turn red as his hair, but your voice was too squeaky and high-pitched. The traitor.
"Oh, um... well, if you're sure. Then uh, yeah. I'd be okay with you walking with me."
Klaus straightened up, concerned he was doing something wrong. Placing a hand on your shoulder, "I don't mean to push my presence [Name]. I don't mind lending you my umbrella. I could always wait here for Gilbert."
"Uh no!" You head popped up suddenly, "That...I wasn't trying to be like that. I just...well, it's kinda. Um...I really don't mind you walking with me. Honest."
Klaus seemed to be studying your face. What was he thinking? Could he see through your thinly veiled attempts to avoid confessing? Why was he so bloody handsome?
"If you're certain [Name], then I'll gladly accompany you."
That soft smile, barely noticeable as the corners of his mouth rose, made you weak in the knee. A feeling only made worse with how closely the two of you had to tuck together to fit under his umbrella.
Sure, it was a large umbrella for a large man, but he was tall. Klaus didn't mind half crouching to make sure you didn't get too soaked by the rain. Having you hold onto his arm so you wouldn't slip or get left behind by his longer stride, he felt like he burst into flame any second now.
While the two of you were trying to give each other personal space, you couldn't help but be hyper-aware of how close he was. The warmth he emanated, the smell of his aftershave... or was that cologne?... It was all a little overwhelming. Your resolve felt like crumbling under that umbrella. But would this be the right time to confess?
The city seemed so peaceful, filled with a different kind of magic as you strolled through it. Arm and arm with Klaus, your mind raced with terribly selfish thoughts about dating him. Would he think less of you for confessing after such an act of kindness? He was surely doing this out of his own desires to protect his friends.
That word stung, and you had no reason to be so stung by it.
However, Klaus was equally enamored with you. Thinking about how good you smelled, how close you were, how he would love to be more romantic with you. Even if it did end up being just friends going out for a pastry, he wanted to do something other than walk you home. And the idea that it was selfish to think that way, to want more of this arrangement, tore at him.
But, you made it home in one piece, thankful for the small porch. Klaus able to stand up properly under his umbrella and look up at you on the steps. He somewhat lamented your hand retreating from his arm, but knew he couldn't do anything about it. Unless...
"Thank you Klaus." You smiled at him, "I really appreciate you walking me home."
"Of course [Name], it was my pleasure."
Klaus's heart skipped a beat. He didn't even register that he had reached for your hand, let alone you putting your hand in his. Though Klaus didn't hesitate to press a gentle kiss to your knuckles.
And with that simple gesture, the two of you devolved into stammering, blushing messes. Klaus attempting to apologize for being so forward while you attempted to reassure him that it was fine.
"I really don't mind." You hit the corner, time to come clean, "Honestly."
Klaus knew to believe you but, "I shouldn't have been so forward [Name]. The last thing I want to do is force anything. I know my manners are quite..."
He fell silent as you beckoned him forward, then immediately reached up to make sure you didn't fall over the railing you leaned over. While you weren't even sure this was the right time, or the right message, you knew that a kiss to the back of the hand wasn't manners. It was meant to be a sweet, softly romantic gesture.
Klaus was fuming when you pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"Th-there." You leaned back up, "Now we're even...on making awkward moves to each other."
Klaus couldn't speak, still processing that you did that. But very glad that you had.
"Per-perhaps we could discuss this later on?" Klaus finally managed to look back up at you, "Over diner? Tomorrow night?"
