        ❛  I DO FEEL BAD THAT  philip  isn’t  here ,  though  i  can  promise  you  it’s  for  a  good  reason .  did  he  tell  you  about  his  new  job ?  ❜  it  was  a  fact  that  between  aurora  and  her  husband ,  the  princess  was  much  less  inclined  to  partake  in  actual  physical  exercise ,  much  preferring  to  either  stay  at  home  during  her  free  time  or  wonder  aimlessly  around  elias .  that  being  said ,  she  could  appreciate  philip’s  most  recent  venture  and  share  his  excitement .  ❛  in  any  case ,  i  figured  that  if  we’re  lucky ,  he’ll  be  back  just  in  time  to  see  you  —  though  i  can’t  say  the  same  for  the  cake .  ❜  laughing ,  the  princess  took  another  bite  from  her  own  piece  of  cake ,  whereas  she  was  pretty  sure  florian  was  already  on  his  second  or  third .  not  that  she  would  mention  it ,  obviously ;  that  wouldn’t  be  polite  of  a  host .  ❛ how  do  you  like  it ?  while  i’m  a  fairly  good  baker ,  i  must  admit  cakes  and  pies  are  not  my  specialty ,  especially  ones  as  intricate  as  opera  cake . ❜

“ oh … ” her cheeks tinted pink but she moved past her bashfulness with a short laugh, “  it’s not much really. but thank you, ” she added in a quieter voice. as soon as the stranger pointed out that it could be a wonderful gift, she grinned, nodding eagerly. “ i could even find a box here and tie it nicely with a spare ribbon and i think i have some tissue paper we could use — ” she began rummaging through the large duffel bag at her feet.

at the question, she looked up again, taking a good look at the stranger. serena found herself so endeared by the woman’s face; it wasn’t just beauty that shone through, but an inherent kindness too. “ would pink be too common a colour ? or, actually … ” serena flicked through the row of headbands delicately, picking out a few close to the back: the headbands looked like braided soft satin, not chunky, and more akin to a thin rope. colours came in a raven-black, deep royal blue, forest green, and deep pink.

“  we were making gowns at the theatre and these were the only colours they had, ” she explained, as if apologising. “ i saw a few braided satin bands online but they looked so chunky, and i wanted to go for something simpler and sleek. ”

          A GLEAM OF EXCITEMENT  appeared  in  aurora’s  eyes  as  she  watched  the  girl  quickly  start  to  put  together  a  proper  package  for  the  wristrest ,  which  aurora  grew  all  too  enthusiastic  about .  there  was  something  particularly  special  about  giving  gifts  to  people ;  and  of  course ,  she  was  hoping  the  small  gesture  would  help  her  relationship  with  kit  even  more .  if  not  for  her  own  sake ,  then  for  philip’s .  but  as  the  other  woman  asked  her  about  the  color  pink ,  the  blonde  simply  smiled  and  shook  her  head  lightly .

         ❛  pink  is  a  wonderful  color ,  one  of  my  aunts  is  completely  in  love  with  it ...  oh ,  ❜  violet  eyes  follow  as  the  selection  of  soft  satin  headbands  are  shown  to  her ,  making  her  struggle  a  bit  to  pick  just  one .  the  blue ,  green  and  pink  reminded  her  of  people  aurora  kept  near  &  dear  to  her  heart ,  people  she  desperately  missed .  as  for  the  raven-black  one ,  there  was  a  bit  of  familiarity  to  it ,  as  if  it  were  something  she  would  have  worn  back  home .  the  bit  of  nostalgia  that  came  from  the  four  colors  swayed  her  a  bit .

       inhaling  a  deep  breath ,  the  princess  lifted  her  gaze .  ❛  would  it  be  okay  if  i  took  all  four  of  them ?  i  love  simple  and  sleek ,  trust  me ,  and  these  colors  are  all  great !  i  imagine  making  gowns  for  theatre  productions  must  be  very  tiring ,  but  also  exciting .  do  you  have  a  favorite  piece  you’ve  worked  on ?  ❜  with  a  bright  smile ,  she  offered  her  hand  for  a  handshake ,  ❛  i’m  aurora ,  by  the  way ;  it’s  lovely  to  meet  you .  ❜

“ oh, no, not at all ! being a barbarian is more of a profession, really. ” she paused to think of a better way to explain it. noticing aurora’s glance, she spun around her notebook, opening it to the first page and welcoming aurora to read it through. she chuckled. “ and yes, he’s very sweet. so you see, even though he may have the … the traits of a barbarian, in his heart, he’s really quite gentle. but when he fights … ” belle beamed, “ everyone better watch out. he protects those he loves very dearly. ”

“ of course ! the merriest. there’s so many — it’s on the third page if you want a quick list, ” she said in a stage whisper, pretending like it was side commentary as she tapped lightly on her notebook. “ so in the game you can be certain types of characters. you could be a paladin, or a wizard, or a ranger, or a bard. if you choose a class, they all follow the common traits of that class but everyone has a different story. and it’s all up to you. ” 

belle gave a satisfied sigh as she finished. “ how am i doing ? i hope it hasn’t been too confusing. ”

            HER MIND INSTANTLY BEGAN TO PICTURE  what  a  ' professional  barbarian '  would  look  like ,  and  aurora  found  the  image  to  be  rather  funny .  then ,  as  always ,  she  imagined  philip  as  said  barbarian ,  and  the  idea  made  her  laugh .  she  would  never  tell  him ,  but  being  a  barbarian  sounded  more  exciting  than  working  at  the  gym !  ❛  in  that  case ,  he  seems  like  a  hero  to  me .  after  all ,  isn't  that  what  heroes  do ?  protect  those  they  love ?  ❜  she  rests  her  chin  on  the  palm  of  her  hand ,  ❛  though  i  suppose  anyone  could  be  a  hero .  isn't  that  wonderful ? ❜

            following  the  brunette's  instructions ,  she  quickly  flipped  to  the  third  page ,  already  all  too  excited  despite  the  overwhelming  amount  of  information .  it  was  a  lot  easier  to  deal  with  the  feeling  of  ' too  much  at  once '  when  it  came  from  something  aurora  was  genuinely  interested  in .  as  she  continued  to  read  through  it  all ,  her  eyes  sparkled  with  interest ,  gaze  lifting  towards  belle .  ❛ which  class  do  you  think  i'd  like  the  most ?  well ,  not  me  but  my  character ,  that  is .  i  have  to  say  i'm  not  the  greatest  fighter ,  so ... ❜

            ❛ oh  no ,  no !  don't  worry  about  it ,  please , ❜  a  chuckle  escapes  her .   ❛  i'm  the  one  who  should  be  worried  about  bombarding  you  with  so  many  questions .  i  do  apologize ,  i  just  don't  have  much  experience  with  these  sorts  of  games .  i  think  my  aunts  didn't  know  much  other  than  hide  &  seek . ❜
