location: monday maker’s market (i just made it up but it’s like a little market for local maker’s to sell things??)

Serena nervously sewed a headband together as people walked by, willing herself to keep smiling and look open – but her smile was surely going to drop soon from the effort. 

She leaned forward to point at each thing. “ They’re all handmade, and most of them are one-size fits all … ” The items on her little table at the Monday Maker’s Market, consisted only of headbands, scrunchies, fabric bookmarks, wrist rests, and laptop-sized totebags. All sewn and thrown together by herself. All in a range of patterns.

“ This one’s actually one of my favourites, ” she pointed to what looked like a tiny pillow with an elastic tie around it. “ It’s a wrist rest, for computer work, and it’s very soft, ” she mimicked typing.

           THERE WAS SOMETHING ABOUT HANDMADE ITEMS  that  had  always  intrigued  aurora .  maybe  because  it  was  what  she  was  most  used  to ,  because  it  reminded  her  of  home  —  well ,  her  former  home .  putting  your  intention ,  hopes  and  wishes  into  something  you’d  made  from  scratch  was  just  much ,  much  more  personal  to  her .  it  might  as  well  be  the  reason  why  she  always  loved  to  support  local  artists  and  shop  owners .

        smiling  as  her  gaze  went  over  every  item  on  display  at  the  other  girl’s  table ,  she  examined  it  all  curiously .  ❛  you’re  so  talented ...  oh ,  really ?  ❜  brows  raise  as  she  points  out  the  wrist  rest ,  and  an  idea  immediately  comes  to  the  blonde .  ❛  i  know  someone  who  could  definitely  benefit  from  this .  it’d  make  for  a  wonderful  gift ,  wouldn’t  it ?  ❜ 

         then ,  she  turned  her  focus  to  the  headbands  and  tote  bags .  ❛  one  can  never  have  too  many  tote  bags  though ,  and  i  do  love  a  good  headband ...  which  one  do  you  think  would  suit  me  best ?  ❜

🗡️ ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────     philip   and   aurora   weren’t   completely   codependent   on   each   other.   while   the   pair   liked   to   be   in   each   other   space   a   good   amount   they   were   still   individuals   outside   of   each   other.   philip   just   loved   his   wife   immensely.   he   saw   no   problem   with   that.   as   comfortable   as   their   little   bubble   was,   philip   knew   that   he   had   to   leave   it.   if   he   wanted   normality   like   he   claimed   he   needed   to   get   an   actual   job.   living   as   a   prince   in   disguise   could   only   get   him   so   far   in   life.   working   at   the   gym   allowed   philip   to   just   feel   like   himself   for   once.   no   rules,   no   responsibilities,   no   pressure   from   anyone   for   philip   to   be   anyone   but   him.   eventually   they   would   have   to   go   back   to   Ylisse   and   be   the   king   and   queen   aurora’s   people   deserved   but   for   now   philip   could   pretend   they   were   just   a   normal   couple,   with   average   lives   and   no   curse   looming   over   their   heads.   “   i   am   full   of   bold   statements,   mon   coeur.   however,   that   could   be   why.   ”      he   dramatically   shuddered   at   the   image   of   sweaty   people   -   all   in   good   fun   of   course.   a   soft   chuckle   left   his   lips   as   their   noses   brushed   together.      “   long   but   good   nonetheless   how   was   yours   ?   ”      he   asked,   lifting   the   flowers   before   his   wife.      “   why,   yes,   they   are   indeed   for   you.   ”

         ❛  OH ,  I KNOW YOU ARE !  it’s  one  of  my  favorite  things  about  you ,  ❜  confessed  with  a  innocent  giggle ,  head  shaking  when  he  shuddered  at  the  mention  of  sweaty  people .  aurora  figured  it  couldn’t  be  the  most  pleasant  of  environments  to  be  in  but ,  well ,  philip  seemed  very  content .  at  the  end  of  the  day ,  isn’t  that  what  truly  matters ?  ❛  mine  was  lovely ,  but  it’s  better  now .  i  wasn’t  counting  on  you  coming  home  early  though ,  clearly ,  ❜  she  tells  him  with  a  nod  towards  the  slight  mess  she’s  made ,  which  isn’t  truly  messy  at  all .  just  enough  to  make  it  obvious  that  the  blonde  had  been  working  on  something .  as  her  smile  grew  bigger ,  aurora  planted  a  small  kiss  on  philip’s  lips  before  taking  the  flowers  in  her  hands .  ❛  thank  you ,  mon  cher .  you  didn’t  have  to ,  ❜  but  then  again ,  she  did  appreciate  small  yet  meaningful  surprises .  they  didn’t  even  have  to  be  flowers  or  anything  material ;  any  time  philip  did  something  she  wasn’t  quite  expecting ,  which  happened  more  often  than  aurora  would  like  to  admit ,  she  loved  it .  looking  around  for  an  empty  vase  to  put  the  flowers  in ,  the  princess  hummed  lightly  until  she  found  the  perfect  one ,  then  proceeded  to  make  her  way  over  to  the  living  room .  ❛  are  you  tired ?  ❜  she  called ,  ❛   i  could  use  some  help  with  the  cake  i’m  making ,  but  you’re  not  allowed  to  eat  it .  it’s  for  a  very  important  guest  &  i’m  not  sure  he’d  appreciate  a  huge  chunk  missing  from  his  cake !  ❜  she  muses  with  a  giggle ,  making  her  way  back  to  philip ,  ❛  or  i  can  make  tea  for  us  and  finish  working  on  that  while  you  tell  me  all  about  your  gym  adventures  and  any  familiar  faces  you  might’ve  encountered .  ❜

“ oh … ” her cheeks tinted pink but she moved past her bashfulness with a short laugh, “  it’s not much really. but thank you, ” she added in a quieter voice. as soon as the stranger pointed out that it could be a wonderful gift, she grinned, nodding eagerly. “ i could even find a box here and tie it nicely with a spare ribbon and i think i have some tissue paper we could use — ” she began rummaging through the large duffel bag at her feet.

at the question, she looked up again, taking a good look at the stranger. serena found herself so endeared by the woman’s face; it wasn’t just beauty that shone through, but an inherent kindness too. “ would pink be too common a colour ? or, actually … ” serena flicked through the row of headbands delicately, picking out a few close to the back: the headbands looked like braided soft satin, not chunky, and more akin to a thin rope. colours came in a raven-black, deep royal blue, forest green, and deep pink.

“  we were making gowns at the theatre and these were the only colours they had, ” she explained, as if apologising. “ i saw a few braided satin bands online but they looked so chunky, and i wanted to go for something simpler and sleek. ”

          A GLEAM OF EXCITEMENT  appeared  in  aurora’s  eyes  as  she  watched  the  girl  quickly  start  to  put  together  a  proper  package  for  the  wristrest ,  which  aurora  grew  all  too  enthusiastic  about .  there  was  something  particularly  special  about  giving  gifts  to  people ;  and  of  course ,  she  was  hoping  the  small  gesture  would  help  her  relationship  with  kit  even  more .  if  not  for  her  own  sake ,  then  for  philip’s .  but  as  the  other  woman  asked  her  about  the  color  pink ,  the  blonde  simply  smiled  and  shook  her  head  lightly .

         ❛  pink  is  a  wonderful  color ,  one  of  my  aunts  is  completely  in  love  with  it ...  oh ,  ❜  violet  eyes  follow  as  the  selection  of  soft  satin  headbands  are  shown  to  her ,  making  her  struggle  a  bit  to  pick  just  one .  the  blue ,  green  and  pink  reminded  her  of  people  aurora  kept  near  &  dear  to  her  heart ,  people  she  desperately  missed .  as  for  the  raven-black  one ,  there  was  a  bit  of  familiarity  to  it ,  as  if  it  were  something  she  would  have  worn  back  home .  the  bit  of  nostalgia  that  came  from  the  four  colors  swayed  her  a  bit .

       inhaling  a  deep  breath ,  the  princess  lifted  her  gaze .  ❛  would  it  be  okay  if  i  took  all  four  of  them ?  i  love  simple  and  sleek ,  trust  me ,  and  these  colors  are  all  great !  i  imagine  making  gowns  for  theatre  productions  must  be  very  tiring ,  but  also  exciting .  do  you  have  a  favorite  piece  you’ve  worked  on ?  ❜  with  a  bright  smile ,  she  offered  her  hand  for  a  handshake ,  ❛  i’m  aurora ,  by  the  way ;  it’s  lovely  to  meet  you .  ❜
