        REGINA HAD ALMOST FORGOTTEN HOW SENISITVE some people could be, Sorrel was the very same, she couldn’t take a comment from Regina without being hurt or annoyed. This was the very reason Regina kept a tough skinned staff at the castle so that these kind of awkward moments would not happen. Regina had always been this way, cold, brute and selfish & that was not going to change for the opinion of someone with a soft touch. “Darling what truly makes a woman beautiful is what she does to herself to keep herself looking that way.” 

Regina was disappointed to see another promising young woman ruined by the teachings of sharing & kindness. It would end up bleeding the poor girl dry of everything she had, but Regina didn’t care very much to get into that the grave had already been dug. “Had you lived in my castle you would have learned something much more valuable, self serving. It requires less emotion.” Regina did not care if she was scaring the young lady it was better she knew now than five years down the line, in Regina’s experience looking out for others got you nowhere & looking out for yourself got you everything. “Hmpf! They live in trees and are mostly barefoot– its unsanitary!” Regina remarked, she personally did not like them. Regina paused, staring at the other girl. “No one treats this Queen with anything other than respect.”

               THE OTHER WOMAN’S COMMENT  made  aurora’s  heart  hurt ,  figuring  it  was  such  a  sad  way  to  look  at  the  world  around  her .  a  person’s  beauty  should  not  be  measured  by  their  looks ,  but  their  heart ;  if  one’s  heart  was  beautiful ,  then  said  beauty  would  shine  through .  still ,  she  felt  there  was  no  reasoning  with  the  stranger ,  who  seemed  all  too  certain  of  her  convictions .  as  the  woman  mentioned  her  castle ,  aurora  looked  down  for  a  moment .  if  that’s  what  it  meant  to  live  in  one ,  then  she  was  happy  to  have  been  raised  in  the  woods .  ❝  i’m  afraid  i  wouldn’t  fare  well  in  a  castle ,  but  i’m  sure  your  home  is  lovely .  i’ve  heard  castles  tend  to  be  beautiful  and  luxurious .  ❞

                 furrowing  her  brows ,  aurora  found  herself  taking  the  woman’s  words  personally  even  though  she  probably  shouldn’t  have .  ❝  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  walking  barefoot ,  with  wanting  to  feel  nature’s  gentleness  on  your  skin .  and  i’m  afraid  we’re  familiar  with  different  kinds  of  fairies ,  for  the  ones  i  know  were  nothing  but  kind ,  nurturing  and  elegant .  and  we  definitely  did  not  live  in  trees !  ❞  aurora  exclaimed ,  only  then  realizing  that  she  probably  shouldn’t  have  included  herself .   ❝  ... they .  i  meant  only  them .  ❞

“You know, there might be something you can do…”

Daisy stepped down off the ladder, swinging the hammer light in her hand as she looked for the words to translate what had only been the barest beginnings of a thought. “My store… it’s only one of many. So many businesses and homes here in town are going to need help getting up and running again… what if there was a way to raise money? I was thinking fashion show… I’m hoping I can scavenge some pieces together, I know some other up and coming designers - I could use some volunteers? Models, accountants, stagehands… whatever you feel comfortable with.“

It was out of her mouth and now it must be done. The idea might evolve, change shape to best fit all the facts still to come, but she would put together an event. She would bring help to the city that had welcomed her in.

She broke out of her thoughts to look back Aurora’s way. “Don’t apologize for potentially being shaken.” Daisy corrected gently. “There are things to apologize for - not being completely chill after monsters destroy the town is not one of them.” 

“The world is… sadly full of shitty people… and gods… would I kick their ass if I saw them in the streets? Of course. On sight… but thankfully, our town is strong. We will get through it, we will come back - and if I don’t get the chance to kick their ass personally, we’ll do it as a community.”

            LISTENING AS THE WOMAN SPOKE ABOUT  her  idea ,  aurora  found  herself  growing  excited  as  she  heard  more  and  more  about  the  plan .  while  the  princess  had  never  seen  a  real  life  fashion  show ,  she  thought  it  was  a  wonderful  and  fun  idea ,  one  that  was  sure  to  mobilize  the  entire  town .  aurora  had  no  experience  in  the  fashion  business ;  in  fact  ,  she  had  no  experience  with  any  sort  of  business ,  but  that  wouldn’t  stop  her  from  participating  in  such  a  noble  project .

              ❝  i  think  that  is  an  excellent  idea !  i  must  admit  i  have  no  experience  with  these  things  but  like  i  said ,  i’ll  do  whatever  you  need  me  to ;  modelling ,  accounting ,  anything  at  all .  i’m  sure  my  husband  would  also  love  to  participate ,  and  i  have  friends  who  would  be  willing  to  land  a  hand  as  well !  ❞  not  to  mention  the  whole  thing  sounded  like  a  good  way  to  distract  her  mind  from  troublesome  thoughts  such  as  maleficent .

              with  daisy’s  reassurance ,  aurora  gave  a  small  nod .  ❝  right ,  right .  i  just ...  i  wish  i  could  be  happy  all  the  time ,  not  for  my  own  sake  but  for  those  around  me .  i  know  it’s  impossible  to  wish  such  a  thing  but  still ... ❞

             smiling  at  her  friend’s  determination ,  the  princess  giggled .  ❝  you’re  right ,  our  town  is  strong .  it’s  been  here  for  us  and  now  is  our  chance  to  give  back ,  to  restore  it  to  it’s  glory .  it  may  take  a  little  while ,  but  i  have  faith  in  our  community .  there’s  a  lot  of  good  in  elias ,  enough  to  overcome  any  bad  situation .  ❞

“  𝐎𝐅  𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄  𝐈  𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋.  If  it’ll  help  you  feel  safe.  ”  Philip  replied  with  a  soft  smile.  Seeing  the  spark  return  to  those  violet  eyes  he  loved  so  made  his  heart  swell.  He  graciously  took  the  small  token  of  affection  and  humbled  in  response.  Anything  to  ease  his  wife’s  mind  philip  would  do  it.  “  You  could  never  let  me  down, mon  ange.  ”  no  matter  what  happened  in  life  ,  Philip  could  never  be  disappointed  in  Aurora.  He  was  raised  to  be  rational  ,  patient  and  kind.  Those  traits  were  especially  true  for  his  wife.  The  life  she  had  lived  had  left  her  naive  to  the  world.  There  was  still  so  much  for  her  to  learn  and  Philip  swore  to  help  her  on  this  journey.  if  anything,  he  hoped  to  not  let  her  down  -  or  anyone  else  for  that  matter.  the  moment  of  contentment  was  popped  when  Aurora  spoke.  It  was  the  first  time  philip  had  ever  seen  Aurora  anything  but  joyful.  it  was  true.  the  pair  chose  to  distract  themselves  in  their  little  bliss.  It  seemed  easier  to  pretend  there  was  no  evil  lurking  or  a  dragon  to  slay  at  the  end  of  this  story.  There  was  a  lot  philip  chose  not  to  think  about  his  father  passing  away  ,  his  kingdom  falling  ,  losing  aurora  ,  his  brothers  or  his  friends  and  the  one  thought  that  peaked  from  the  dark  corners  of  his  brain  -  the  possibility  of  him  dying  to  protect  those  he  loves.  he  was  trained  yes  but  was  he  a  match  for  maleficent  ?  Philip  didn’t  know  anymore.  All  these  thoughts  he  tucked  away  to  live  his  happy  life  he  dreamed  about.  It  felt  easier  to  sink  into  the  domesticy  and  mundane  ways  of  life  then  deal  with  the  looming  evil.  “  No  you’re  right.  We  do.  ”  a  sigh  left  his  lips  as  his  hand  that  was  in  aurora’s  hair  soon  reached  up  to  his  own.  “  We  can’t  anymore.  I  -  Maleficent  is  here.  i  ran  into  her  when  I  was  out  helping.  There’s  no  more  lurking,  Aurora.  The  evil  is  here.  ”  to  say  those  heart  out  loud  it  felt  as  though  philip  was  stabbing  himself  through  the  heart.  to  admit  maleficent  was  here  and  aurora  was  no  longer  safe  was  a  shock  to  his  reality.  

“  you  are  anything  but  useless.  I  know  i  cannot  protect  you  from  everything.  God  ,  do  I  wish  i  could  but  I  have  to  be  realistic  here  ,  love  darling.  Which  is  something  i  am  not  always.  i’ll  train  you.  i  will  help  you  feel  safe  and  secure.  i  will  slay  as  many  dragons  as  i  can  for  you  and  for  others  but  you  will  also  be  able  to  slay  your  own  dragons  as  well.  i  promise  you.  ”  there  was  an  urgency  in  his  voice  that  wasn’t  there  prior.  the  thought  of  aurora  feeling  helpless  or  scared  made  philip  feel  like  he  had  failed  her  in  someway.  gently,  his  hands  reached  for  her  again,  bringing  them  to  his  lips  as  he  kissed  her  knuckles  and  then  the  inside  of  her  palm.  the  prince  stayed  there  for  a  moment,  mulling  over  his  words.  “  then  we  shall  enjoy  our  time  once  this  is  all  over.  we’ll  go  back  to  Ulstead.  we’ll  have  a  proper  wedding.  one  where  our  families  will  be  in  attendance.  our  friends  shall  be  there  as  well.  we’ll  start  a  family  and  grow  old  together.  until  then  ,  we  fight.  I  let  maleficent  threaten  my  kingdom  but  i  will  be  damned  if  i  allow  her  to  harm  you  or  anyone  else  in  this  city.  we  will  get  through  this.  ”

            TO HEAR THAT SHE COULD NEVER LET HIM DOWN  was  a  relief  to  aurora ,  whom  despite  her  gentle ,  bright  personality ,  carried  insecurities  of  her  own  just  like  any  other  person .  she  knew  that  marrying  philip  meant ,  among  many  other  things ,  to  accept  her  role  and  duty  as  a  princess  ---  something  she  was  hardly  familiar  with .  while  the  blonde  had  no  doubt  that  the  her  ‘ aunts ’  raised  her  to  their  best  of  their  ability ,  with  all  the  love  and  the  greatest  intentions ,  aurora  wasn’t  raised  as  what  she  imagined  a  proper  princess  would .   though  she  knew  philip  hardly  cared  for  such  details ,  there  was  a  part  of  her  that  feared  they  would  the  cause  of  trouble  in  the  future ,  though  she  supposed  it  was  nothing  they  wouldn’t  manage  to  pull  through .  watching  as  the  look  on  his  face  changed  into  one  of  acceptance  of  the  situation  at  hand ,  aurora  couldn’t  help  feeling  a  deep  ache  in  her  heart ,  absolutely  hating  the  sight  of  her  love  in  anything  other  than  joy .  he  was  always  so  carefree ,  and  she’d  ruined  it  for  the  moment .  then ,  an  unexpected  revelation  came ,  and  the  princess  felt  as  if  her  heart  had  stopped  for  a  moment .  ❝  she ...  she’s  in  town ?  w - when  did  she  get  here ,  did  she  do  anything  to  you ?!  ❞  her  violet  gaze  started  searching  him  for  anything  that  looked  like  a  bruise  or  wound ,  anything  that  could  indicate  a  fight .  she  would  much  rather  walk  right  into  one  of  maleficent’s  traps  than  let  anyone  else get  hurt ,  especially  philip .

             listening  as  he  spoke ,  aurora  found  herself  feeling  reassured  by  philip’s  words ,  despite  the  urgency  in  his  voice  ( which  was  something  she  was  completely  unfamiliar  with ) .  it  was  a  promise  in  which  she  believed  with  her  whole  heart  and  of  course ,  the  gentle  kisses  he  pressed  to  her  knuckles  and  palm  also  helped  the  woman  calm  down .  she  was  lucky  to  have  him ,  that  was  an  unrefutable  truth  in  her  eyes .  ❝  you’ve  thought  of  everything ,  haven’t  you ?  ❞  a  soft  chuckle  escapes  her  lips ,  a  hand  gently  letting  go  of  his  own  to  cup  philip’s  cheek .  ❝  i  believe  you ,  my  love .  i’m  sorry  i  made  you  worry  but  i  do  believe  in  you .  in  us .  and  i  do  believe  in  our  future ,  too ,  with  our  families  and  friends  and  everything  else .  ❞  pausing ,  the  blonde  felt  her  cheeks  become  warm ,  ❝  even  our  own  family ...  have  you  really  thought  about  that ,  too ?  ❞  she  asked ,  a  mixture  of  curiosity  and  excitement  in  her  voice .  it  wasn’t  as  though  she’d  forgotten  about  the  more  important  matters ,  namely  maleficent  and  the  catastrophy  that  had  taken  over  elias ,  but  she  figured  philip  needed  the  small  distraction  for  the  time  being .  aurora  needed  it ,  too .   ❝  i’m  not  too  sure  samson  will  be  very  fond  of  you  sharing  your  affections  with  even  more  people ,  my  love .  ❞  she  teased ,  a  smile  returning  to  her  lips .
