      REGINA HAD ONLY BEEN IN ELIAS A FEW SHORT HOURS & yet what she had already seen of the ‘fantastic’ city had been reduced to ash and rubble. She had of course watched some of the events unfold from the comforts of a bubble bath, nibbling on truffles and sipping champagne. As the smoke began to clear and the monsters put to bed Regina emerged from her five star hotel having slept like a baby, ready to explore. 

“Tsk tsk tsk….” she tutted, peering down from her Gucci sunglasses resting on the bridge of her nose, she stepped over the pole of a street lamp lying across the pavement, her Kingdom would never look this desecrated. “What a shameful mess” she began waving her hand and clearing a path for herself amidst the clutter and broken glass. “And here I thought I would be dazzled.”

              IT TOOK A LOT OF COURAGE  for  aurora  to  bring  herself  to  leave  her  place ,  especially  unaccompanied .  of  course  she  knew  that ,  if  asked ,  philip  would  have  been  more  than  happy  to  accompany  her  through  the  rubble  &  leftovers  of  the  town  she’d  learned  to  love ,  to  call  home ,   but  the  princess  knew  he  was  busy  with  his  own  things .  probably  checking  in  on  his  own   loved  ones ,  rescuing  those  who  couldn’t  make  it  home  in  time ,  things  of  the  sort .  he  was  kind  like  that .

               and  so ,  she  wandered  down  the  street  by  herself ,  a  dark  shawl  covering  most  of  her  hair  &  wraping  around  her  arms .  the  night  had  never  felt  so  cold .  ❝  hm ?  ❞  she  heard  a  voice ,  promptly  capturing  her  attention .  it  seemed  like  the  woman  wasn’t  familiar  with  elias  just  yet  ---  what  a  pity  this  was  the  state  she  found  it  in .  ❝  i ...  i’m  sorry  it’s  not  as  you’d  imagined ,  madam .  it  used  to  be  much ,  much  more  beautiful  until  recently .  ❞  a  sad  smile  graces  her  features ,  ❝  but  i’m  sure  the  mayor  is  working  to  put  everything  back  in  its  rightful  place .  ❞

            REGINA WAS HORRIFED AT THE SIGHT OF THE YOUNG GIRL, what kind of sick joke was the world playing on her. First it had been the red lips, pale skin and dark hair of Sorrel, god that name made her sick, and now standing in front of her was some kind of perfect porcelain doll, the picture of youth. Regina refused to frown or pout, instead she cleared her throat, caring little about the state of the city. “I am sure a lot of things seem beautiful but they are probably all just a ruse.” Regina explained, looking for any traces of make up on the young woman’s face.

Regina scoffed, effortlessly wiggling a finger and fixing the lamp post she had stepped over, letting it stand tall to its original hand painted glory. “If you’re waiting for anyone else to what needs to be done you will be waiting a lifetime my dear.” she cooed. “The best way to ensure a task is completed is to finish it yourself.”

            THERE WAS SOMETHING ODD ABOUT  the  way  the  woman  seemed  to  be  examining  every  single  inch  of  aurora’s  face ,  leaving  the  blonde  confused  to  say  the  least .  did  she  have  something  on  her  skin ,  or  perhaps  her  teeth ?  a  hand  reached up  to  gently  wipe  her  own  cheek ,  except  nothing  came  out  on  delicate  fingertips .  maybe  the  woman  had  mistaken  her  for  someone ,  or  wanted  to  make  sure  the  blonde  looked  friendly  enough .  ❝  a  ruse ?  well ,  maybe  sometimes ,  but ...  it’s  important  to  believe  in  the  beauty  around  you .  there’s  beauty  everywhere ,  madam ;  even  at  times  like  this .  ❞  she  affirmed  confidently ,  offering  the  stranger a  warm  smile .

             the  display  of  magic  caught  her  off  guard ,  though  it  probably  shouldn’t  have .  not  after  everything  that  had  happened  in  elias .  ❝  i  see ...  although  if  i’m  honest ,  i  doubt  there’s  much  i  could  do  to  help  the  town  at  large .  i  must  say  i  find  myself  to  be  feeling  rather  useless  lately ,  ❞   aurora  confessed ,   as  much  as  the  words  pained  her .  ❝  are  you  a  fairy ,  madam ?  ❞  she  must  be ;  after  all ,  the  woman  was  beautiful ,  yet  there  was  something  a  bit  off  about  all  this .

         IT SOME CRUEL, TWISTED TRICK OF FATE AND REGINA WAS LIVID watching the youthful expressions and mannerism’s of the girl. Regina did not believe in any higher power or guardians but this young lady could have been mistaken for an angel, it made Regina sick. Perhaps she should have just stayed in the comfort of her castle and then she could have lived in blissful ignorance of the beauty in Elias. Regina scoffed at the girl’s words, finding it all very make believe. “The only beauty I believe in is my own. It’s more important than any rosebush or whatever that plant once was.”

Regina eyed up the young lady suspiciously when she reacted to her spell, was Elias not a Magical City after all? Had she been misinformed… because there was no chance on this Earth that Regina would use her own two hands to pick up debris. She just had her nails done. “And why is that? Are you thinking for yourself or for others?” she asked, disgusted at the thought of pleasing other people. “A fairy?” Regina chuckled, somewhat offended. “A fairy? My dear I am a Queen, a Witch and most importantly not a forest imp.”

             FOR SOME REASON ,  THOUGH AURORA TRIED  to  believe  the  other  woman’s  words  carried  nothing  but  good  intentions  behind  them ,  something  didn’t  quite  sit  well  with  the  princess .  she  couldn’t  point  out  what  it  was ,  but  the  girl  wasn’t  exactly  comfortable  right  now .   ❝  well ...  self - love  is  just  as  important  as  any  other  form  of  love ,  so ,  i  am  happy  to  know  that  you  believe  in  your  own  beauty .  it  makes  you  all  the  more  beautiful ,  ❞  or  so  she  liked  to  believe .

            furrowing  her  brows ,  she  took  a  moment  to  think  about  the  woman’s  question ,  finding  that  she  liked  to  think  of  herself  as  someone  who  made  their  own  choices  and  formed  her  own  opinions ,  and  yet ...  not  everything  was  always  as  she  wanted .  not  at  all .  ❝  i  can’t  think  for  myself  without  thinking  of  others .  it’s  not  the  way  i  was  brought  up ,  i  suppose .  ❞  but  it  was  the  comment  about  fairies ,  however ,  that  upset  the  blonde  deeply .  she  couldn’t  help  but  take  it  personally ;  after  all ,  the  princess  owed  her  life  to  three  fairies .  bringing  her  shawl  closer  around  her  torso ,  aurora  spoke  again .   ❝  i’m  sorry ,  but  fairies  are  not  imps .  they  are  kind ,  beautiful  beings  who  deserve  respect  from  all .  i  suppose  a  queen  such  as  yourself  would  know  the  importance  of  treating  others  how  you  want  to  be  treated ,  yes ?  ❞

        REGINA HAD ALMOST FORGOTTEN HOW SENISITVE some people could be, Sorrel was the very same, she couldn’t take a comment from Regina without being hurt or annoyed. This was the very reason Regina kept a tough skinned staff at the castle so that these kind of awkward moments would not happen. Regina had always been this way, cold, brute and selfish & that was not going to change for the opinion of someone with a soft touch. “Darling what truly makes a woman beautiful is what she does to herself to keep herself looking that way.” 

Regina was disappointed to see another promising young woman ruined by the teachings of sharing & kindness. It would end up bleeding the poor girl dry of everything she had, but Regina didn’t care very much to get into that the grave had already been dug. “Had you lived in my castle you would have learned something much more valuable, self serving. It requires less emotion.” Regina did not care if she was scaring the young lady it was better she knew now than five years down the line, in Regina’s experience looking out for others got you nowhere & looking out for yourself got you everything. “Hmpf! They live in trees and are mostly barefoot– its unsanitary!” Regina remarked, she personally did not like them. Regina paused, staring at the other girl. “No one treats this Queen with anything other than respect.”

               THE OTHER WOMAN’S COMMENT  made  aurora’s  heart  hurt ,  figuring  it  was  such  a  sad  way  to  look  at  the  world  around  her .  a  person’s  beauty  should  not  be  measured  by  their  looks ,  but  their  heart ;  if  one’s  heart  was  beautiful ,  then  said  beauty  would  shine  through .  still ,  she  felt  there  was  no  reasoning  with  the  stranger ,  who  seemed  all  too  certain  of  her  convictions .  as  the  woman  mentioned  her  castle ,  aurora  looked  down  for  a  moment .  if  that’s  what  it  meant  to  live  in  one ,  then  she  was  happy  to  have  been  raised  in  the  woods .  ❝  i’m  afraid  i  wouldn’t  fare  well  in  a  castle ,  but  i’m  sure  your  home  is  lovely .  i’ve  heard  castles  tend  to  be  beautiful  and  luxurious .  ❞

                 furrowing  her  brows ,  aurora  found  herself  taking  the  woman’s  words  personally  even  though  she  probably  shouldn’t  have .  ❝  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  walking  barefoot ,  with  wanting  to  feel  nature’s  gentleness  on  your  skin .  and  i’m  afraid  we’re  familiar  with  different  kinds  of  fairies ,  for  the  ones  i  know  were  nothing  but  kind ,  nurturing  and  elegant .  and  we  definitely  did  not  live  in  trees !  ❞  aurora  exclaimed ,  only  then  realizing  that  she  probably  shouldn’t  have  included  herself .   ❝  ... they .  i  meant  only  them .  ❞
