I can never find my fucking references that I like because theyre scattered to the wind

Here's some notes on some of the upper body muscles so you, artist, don't need to look them up

They are not medically accurate, just enough for artists to know the necessary muscles and how they work together

I 100% recommend doing the last exercise I did to be able to actually place the muscles

Here are my notes on the lower body muscles

Every time I go to draw something I go “hey! I should color this” and then that leads to “hey! I should shade this” and then I fall into the trap of “hey! I should texture this” and suddenly I’m three days deep fucking finger painting in procreate because I’m too broke for an updated Apple Pencil that will pair with my iPad and I’ve decidedly bit off far more than I can chew because I’m trying to fully render something, and then on day four I start looking at it sideways and going “I don’t even know if I like this anymore.” And I don’t even know if it’s worth posting it at that point.

Okay not ragging on wearing seatbelts at all, DEFINITELY DO THAT, but I will say that I kinda do think seat belts are sexist. Mostly because cars were designed with male drivers in mind and to this day the majority of crash tests are conducted WITH male-only dummies- this has skewed the survivorship of male and female drivers, because women aren’t the the ones with the design in mind, they end up dying on a much more regular basis. (You cannot convince me no woman has ever been boob slapped at an ungodly force because an airbag wasn’t aimed correctly at her chest), I think that the seat belt’s design is just a vestigial remnant of that fact. Women are more likely to die in a crash as the driver, and it’s because cars aren’t usually being tested with female-designed dummies. (There’s a few around now, but this is still pretty new.)

I sincerely think that while unimportant (technically), the design of seat belts could definitely be modified for the comfort of all people while also being safe, if not even safer. Just cause it works doesn’t mean it can’t be better!

Also??? Breast amputation????? Girl- if car crashes resulted in male castrations the design would’ve been changed immediately. Don’t even play with me right now. Even if it’s survivorship bias that’s still a permanent and disfiguring injury that is by all means preventable by an improved design. No one gender or sex should suffer severe bodily disfigurement because they weren’t accounted for. That just isn’t ok.

And it’s not even just women this applies to. Would it kill us to actually cover the rough fabric in soft sleeves? I remember seat belts rubbing and even sometimes burning my skin as a child- because they don’t account for the kaleidoscope of people who will enter, exit, and use a seatbelt while in the car. Children are sensitive to that stimulus too. I don’t think parents of special needs children (or any children, for that matter) should have to go about replacing their car’s seatbelts because some Rich ass company decided to not improve a preexisting design because they want to hold on to their money with greedy grubby fingers. Kinda defeats the purpose of innovation if not a soul tries to improve at something.

What I’m saying is- safety devices like seatbelts are important, and they should absolutely be used and worn, but they can stand to be improved and updated to be better for everyone. Just because they work doesn’t mean their design was inclusive from the jump nor is it currently. Seatbelts working and seat belts having a rather unfriendly design for certain groups are both true statements that can coexist without either being wrong. But that’s something that is fixable. And it shouldn’t be ignored just because it works.

Not to mention there’s a lot of cultural ties to the sheer number of cultures that have immigrated here, and depending on where you are, you might actually not just be feeding four people, but grandmas, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandchildren too. Even more if you’re hosting an event. (Thanksgiving with a ridiculous number of extended family is a great example of this.) Food is a huge cultural factor as a result. Not making enough for everyone is considered rude or inconsiderate, because it’s like saying “well I didn’t take into account you as an individual, so that sucks ig, you’re not worth the thought” and you just don’t do that. At least you’re damn well not supposed to. Even to the people you don’t like.

Left over culture is huge in the south and Midwest (especially the Midwest, people will pawn off leftovers to friendly neighbors).

Calorie dense foods are often cultural remnants of Italian and Irish immigrants or American family recipes from the depression worried if they were going to make it to the next week, and are culturally important. Some of the Latin culture that’s immigrated in as well actually does sometimes regard it as rude to finish your plate (though that’s not extremely common throughout the US, it’s still something to consider)

If invite you to my home and make extremely meaty and carb rich Italian or Irish family recipes, I don’t expect you to eat ten bowls. If you need that much I’m not gonna stop you, but I’m gonna look pretty concerned that you’ve not been getting enough food in general to be THAT hungry.

Also, it’s usually considered a polite gesture to bring something you’ve made along to hostings and events as a means to contribute to festivities, and to alleviate some of the hoster’s stress about making enough. Also further fosters the culture of sharing meals and food as a show of good faith and a means to bond.

Seriously though it’s also really nice when a relative or a friend genuinely cannot keep themselves away from something you made because damn it’s tasty. 10/10 feeling. Like discovering the holy grail of pride and self accomplishment. A little sad that you have a clean plate to take home, but so fulfilling to know the thing you made and brought was that tasty.

Note to vacationing non-Americans: while it’s true that America doesn’t always have the best food culture, the food in our restaurants is really not representative of what most of us eat at home.  The portions at Cheesecake Factory or IHOP are meant to be indulgent, not just “what Americans are used to.”

If you eat at a regular American household, during a regular meal where they’re not going out of their way to impress guests, you probably will not be served twelve pounds of chocolate-covered cream cheese.  Please bear this in mind before writing yet another “omg I can’t believe American food” post.
