gaara's confidence re being a parent

gaara isn't worried about parenting much. he knew what he was getting into when taking a child into his home, & he was ready for it. he knows he will never be like rasa, & he knows that he's trying his best. he knows how & who to ask for help when he needs it, & he knows that every child is different.

he finds joy in nurturing the future, & even more joy when the child who was once rampaging in the streets comes home & greets him, as his father. as family. gaara had no idea how much it meant to be a parent, let alone the parent of a child who so desperately needed it. & he's so, so happy he's been given this chance.

in short, he is not super mega confident in his inherent abilities as a father, but is wholly confident in his willingness to learn, & confident that no matter what, he loves shinki with every bit of his being.

& that's what's important.

gaara loves them, simple as that. they were always there for him, & never gave up on him even at his worst.

he wonders if they still fear him, subconsciously. he wonders if they would beg for their lives like they used to if he were to show aggression to them. not that he would, but the curiosity scratches at the back of his mind, almost desperately. wouldn't it be so refreshing to feel that rush again?

     mitsuki   just   takes   it.   he   remains   totally   still,   balancing   the   large   toy   on   his   head   without   issue.   as   the   snake   is   added,   then   the   slug   ——      is   there   a   market   for   slug   merchandise   at   all?   really?   he   waits   a   moment,   listens   to   what   she   says,   &&   it   clicks.   she’s…   trying   to   seem   sentimental.   trying   to   pretend   that   the   team   she   was   once   a   part   of   is   still,   somehow,   together.   this   is   more   for   her   than   it   is   for   him,   isn’t   it?   some   form   of   nostalgia   for   days   long   passed,   for   dreams   that   were   never   fulfilled.
