Book Polin Fans Coming From Someone Who Started The Show Without Reading Any Of The Books And Only Read
Book Polin fans… coming from someone who started the show without reading any of the books and only read them during this long wait for S3… I kinda think people are taking the complaints that the show gave Benedict Colin’s personality as an excuse to say Colin has no personality, when the two things are NOT the same.
Colin has a personality. In fact he has his same personality FROM THE BOOK. The problem is that Benedict has some (and I mean only SOME) of it too when they should’ve either kept Benedict the same as his book counterpart OR given him a fresh personality that fit a niche in the show that wasn’t filled yet.
And some of the stuff that’s given to Benedict in the Colin/Benedict personality tug of war we gotta gatekeep for Colin, I’m sorry. The amount of times I see people credit the “have you ever been to a farm” scene to Benedict is wild.

I’m a writer Colin truther because Colin spent his first summer abroad writing letters to his whole big ass family (plus Penelope) and Penelope was the only one to respond to all of his letters.
And then he goes away for a SECOND summer abroad and writes to his whole big ass family (plus Penelope) and even fewer people respond the second summer away???
And he just…still keeps writing them letters???? Yeah that’s a man that misses Penelope but that’s also a man who just likes writing. Wasting time and ink going “surely my family will write back if I can create really evocative descriptions of sunsets” like the NERD he is.
when colin said he would never court penelope featherington, he meant she will court him. it's romancing mr. bridgerton, not romancing ms. featherington. he's not here for your outdated traditions. he deserves to swoon. y'all remember the book? that man was juggling every interaction they had like a court jester.
or, it's probably because my feral man went straight to marriage. oh, well.
the thing is, colin is embarrassed. but not by her. he is embarrassed because he is being called out and for something he knows he is at fault for. he knows he has done wrong by her and he is feeling exposed as she dresses him down. and is that not a perfect summary of their relationship? she sees his discomfort and properly identifies it but she is too wrapped up in herself and her own insecurities to understand it. she sees him but she does not see him.
One of the tiny details I love about Bridgerton S2 is how they made very subtly made a point about how Penelope 'a plant pun if you were wondering' Featherington and Colin 'that was an olive joke' Bridgerton have the same dumb sense of humour. Like those lines were in completely different episodes, neither of them was present when the other one said it but the parallel is so intentional.
Tbh, my self care is not engaging with Bridgerton fans who refuse to acknowledge the nuance and grey area of Penelope Featherington’s actions and instead completely villainize her.
Like, it’s one thing to disagree with how she handled things, but y’all I just saw a real life post saying with its whole chest that she personally drove Marina to attempt that abortion.
Acknowledge the nuance or just admit you’re biased, lol, it’s okay to be more sympathetic to one person’s plight than another’s, but being blind to it is icky
