people who genuinely believe byler will be one-sided make me giggle… because thats NOT how you write a story about onesided love. it’s simply too late in the narrative for it to be one-sided.

if the writers wanted to achieve a one-sided love storyline with will and mike, everything would’ve been pushed back by at least a season.

in s3, it wouldve been him explicitly pining over mike the way he does in s4. they would have introduced a new character in s3 that Will would eventually get together with later in the show (maybe briefly mention them even before s3).

s4 would be something along the lines of him finding himself, getting over mike, and learning he deserves to love someone who loves him back and experience that. during s4, he wouldve gotten gradually closer to the other character, so that s5 would be about him and the imaginary character’s relationship becoming canon.

it would be a story about queer first love and the heartbreak/loneliness it can come with, but that it isn’t the end of the world and there is real love out there for you. it would be a story about learning you deserve to love someone who loves you back, and not chase after people.

which, hey, sounds like a cool ass story. but… thats NOT how the show decided to set it up. everything is the way it is for a reason - byler is endgame. mike deserves to be with someone that he can actually be himself with and be appreciated by. will deserves to get the one thing he wants at least once and be happy with the one person who actually makes him feel human.

Holy shit idk if anyone has pointed this out yet but-

Okay so in season one its established through Joyce that Will has a fear of clowns. Clown imagery is reinforced in season 2 when someone dressed as one on Halloween triggers Will’s episode and Bob mentions having nightmares about Baldo the clown.

In season one it’s also established that Lonnie will sometimes bring Will to baseball games (which Will does not actually enjoy)
