Jade smiles at Kit’s joy. This is what she wants forever. Just to make the woman in front of her smile, to make her happy. “I told you, I’ve loved you for quite some time. So much of what I’ve done, I’ve done for you,” she whispers. “The stupid gowns, all of our training, all of the nightmares, jumping off the edge of the world… even the Shining Legion. It’s because I love you.”

Fuck. Not fast enough. Jade glances over her shoulder at Kit. They’re separated by a doorway, but Jade knows the princess will be at her side within moments to look at all of the bruises and cuts that now cover her torso. Jade had hoped to soak in warm water and treat every wound before Kit returned to her chambers. No such luck.

“It’s nothing, love,” Jade tries to assure her. She turns and goes to Kit, deciding to take the first steps before her lover can. The dark marks and shallow red cuts on her front are far more pronounced than on her backside, especially since she’s only in her breast band and exposing most of her skin. “Training just got a little rough.” More than a little rough, but if she admits she was targeted, Kit will take things into her own hands.
