"Something's wrong with Eddie," Steve announces to the room.

The kids all look up from whatever they were doing, whether it's reading a magazine or debating what Eddie's planning next in the current campaign.

Max snorts. "Like we didn't already know that."

"What makes you say that though?" Dustin asks, eyebrows furrowed in concern.

“I don’t know, I can just tell,” Steve says as he begins pacing the room, six pairs of eyes following his movements.

“Okay…”

“You gotta give us more than that, Steve,” Dustin says.

Steve’s hands fly up in exasperation. “I just know.” Dustin eyes search his face, and Steve hopes he can see how serious Steve feels about this.

“Then he needs us,” Dustin saying, standing up and immediately putting all of his belongings in his backpack. The rest of the kids follow along, cleaning up the essentials, but still leaving the room a pigsty of empty soda cans and crumbs.

They make their way to Eddie’s trailer, albeit slowly since not all the kids could fit in Steve’s car. Max had offered Mike up to hang onto the roof of the car, “It’s fine if you drive slow” “It’s raining!”, but that didn’t fly with Steve.

Everything looks normal when they arrive. The rain has turned into more of a light drizzle, and Steve can see the light on in the living room. Dustin is the first to walk up to the door and knock.

“Eddie? Eddie, you there? It’s Dustin.”

There’s movement through the shades before the door opens slowly. Eddie is standing there in his softest black Metallica shirt, pajama pants, and with a blanket on the top of his head and wrapping his shoulders. He must not have been expecting to see a horde based on the confused look on his face. The TV is on in the background, and Steve can hear the sound of Gene Wilder yelling “Give my creation LIIIIIIFE!”

“What are you doing here?” Eddie asks, eyes looking at each of them in turn.

“Steve said you were acting weird,” Lucas replies. Eddie’s eyes flick to Steve’s own.

Steve shrugs.

Eddie huffs a laugh, stepping out of the doorway and motioning for them all to come in. They do just that and stand just inside, waiting.

“So…what’s up?”

Eddie sighs and runs his hand over his face, squinting his eyes tightly, and shrugs. “I don’t know. Just one of those days, I guess?” He walks to the couch and flops down, bringing the blanket in tightly around him.

Steve knows that feeling, and he’s pretty sure the kids can also relate after all the shit they’ve been through in their short lives.

They all stand there idly. Dustin’s face is pinched in concentration like he’s trying to work out the best way to help, and the others aren’t dissimilar.

“Want some company?” Steve asks, breaking the silence. Eddie looks up at him for a moment, eyes searching his face before looking at the group filling his living room. A smile appears on his face; small at first until it breaks out into a wide grin, dimples on full display.

“That sounds good. Hope you all like Young Frankenstein because I’m not changing it.”

A wave of everyone talking at once fills the living room, the kids all settle on the floor in front of the tv, except Dustin who sits next to Eddie on the couch. Steve takes the available seat on the opposite side of Eddie, settling in to watch the movie for the 15th time.

Eddie leans in to whisper to Steve, “What’d I do that was so weird? I thought I was playing it cool.”

Steve smiles to himself before turning to quietly tell him, “You didn’t finish your fries.”

Eddie barks out a laugh, and a symphony of shushing follows. He smiles widely and chuckles, shaking his head fondly. He bumps his shoulder into Steve’s and says, “Guess you know me pretty well.”

“Guess I do.”

As the movie goes on, Eddie removes the blanket from around himself to cover the three of them sitting on the couch. And if his and Steve’s hands graze each other, well…

That’s for them to know.

Just on my Steve is smooth operator when he sets his mind on someone agenda. Because remember even Robin thinks he’s striking out because he doesn’t know what he wants. Cue him deciding he wants Eddie and cranking that charm up to eleven.

Steve took a deep breath. He was good at this. Just because he had struck out with girls lately didn’t mean he didn’t know how to come on to someone.

He waited until he had a handful of witnesses that wouldn’t hate crime him for this.

Eddie came into Family Video with Dustin, Lucas, and Mike to rent a movie. Will and the rest of Byers family were in the process of moving back to Indiana, so it was just the three boys today.

Steve had sent Robin to make sure there weren’t any other customers before he made his move. He walked up to the metalhead and stepped into his space until their bodies were almost touching.

“Hey, gorgeous.”
