Some old sketches of some character's from Neal Shusterman's Skinjacker trilogy
So there's this moment in the book where it says that Rack (the Payless Shoes guy) pinches a squip out of the box and this is what I thought of

I don't think that the squip was actually evil
To be evil implies some sort of malevolent intent. The squip, while it had done some pretty awful things to Jeremy, didn't seem to actually mean to harm him. The squip isn't a person, it doesn't have feelings or morals. It just had an objective, and it did what it had to do to get to it, even if it meant harming people. While this doesn't excuse what it had done, the squip actually did complete its objective, which wouldn't have happened if it didn't do all the things it did.
