SFW Rec Friday: Soulmates AU

Today's Forecast by Finely Honed (jaqen_hgar) Loneliness had followed Tony Stark his entire life, so they were on pretty good terms. Ignoring those empty places inside of himself was easier once the day was in full swing, but the mornings had a way of slipping a knife between his ribs, and getting him right in the heart. The last place Tony expected to find the cure for his condition was on TV, but now watching the morning weather report has become the highlight of his day. Well, it was less the weather, and more the weatherman. One look at Bucky Barnes making some adorably lame joke about umbrellas, all lopsided smile and sparkling eyes, and Tony was in love. They are so incredibly adorable... And then they almost mess it up xD but that’s just typical, isn’t it, and the ending is so sweet... [Note: this story requires being logged into Ao3]

The Tsum of Our Parts by Shi_Toyu Tony couldn’t remember a time when he hadn’t had his soul Tsum. The little thing had appeared as soon as Tony was born, which wasn’t completely unheard of. It just meant that his soulmate was older than him, old enough to have already developed their own Tsum characteristics, so maybe early teenage years. That happened all the time. It wasn’t even particularly scandalous. They’d probably meet later in life, when the age gap didn’t mean quite so much. What was unusual was how cold his Tsum was. I love the character development in this, as well as the friendship between Tony and Steve.

People like you must be the world's loneliest creatures by avienexjel tony stark is rich and popular and an arrogant asshole. in other words: his iq rivals einstein's, he's slept with most of his "friends" at least once, and he's so fucking lonely that sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and cries into the cold sheets on the empty side of the bed. it's no different at SHIELD boarding school, at first. half the student body hates him, half want to be him, nothing new. that is, until tony accidentally breaks james barnes's prosthetic arm, and he suddenly finds the most vulnerable pieces of himself surfacing whether he wants them to or not. Truly follows the prompt, which is usually not my cup of tea. I will admit that the earlier chapters of this story have had me literally screaming at my screen because of the utter injustice. It's still unfinished, but I still do like it so far (after getting over the beginning :P) and at least they're redeeming themselves.

Trust Falls by Niki Doctor Strange has a plan to tie Bucky Barnes to someone who can be trusted to never misuse the command words, someone who will always do right by him. The spell has side effects. It also chooses a person no one – including Tony himself – expected. The growing bond and the increasing trust between them is incredibly sweet. That spell was SO right.

Such Sweet Revenge by ali_aliska When the Rogues are back in the States after being pardoned, the New Avengers want nothing to do with them and as far as Tony is concerned, if he never speaks to them again, it'll be too soon. After all, he didn't spend the last year putting himself (and his family) back together only for his former co-workers to ruin all of his hard work. But then he gets a hand-written letter from the Winter Soldier himself, apologizing for the events that transpired and an off-handed comment from Rhodey about Rogers failing to take care of an obviously miserable Bucky Barnes sets in motion Tony's new, oh-so-evil plan to get some payback. After all, what better revenge than to steal the Winter Soldier away from his best friend? The only problem: Tony sucks at being vengeful, but apparently he's an expert at inadvertently falling in love. An absolutely amazing story that I would advise anyone to read. I love it so much. (Again, caution advised if you're not Team Iron Man though.)
